The Shadows of Memory: A Ranger's Tale

Rate this book
The Shadows of Memory plunges readers back into Marc Alan Edelheit’s sweeping fantasy saga—where love, sacrifice, and the weight of destiny collide in a world on the brink of ruin.

Gravely wounded after his duel with the deadly ranger Kyber, Eli awakens in a hidden refuge deep within the winter-bound forest. He has survived—but survival has come at a terrible price. Shadows haunt his every waking moment, and in his dreams, ancient eyes watch and wait. The bond with his cursed sword, Memory, grows stronger, hungrier… and Eli fears the weapon may demand more than he can give.

As he struggles to heal, Eli finds solace in the unwavering devotion of his wife, Mae. Yet even their stolen moments of peace cannot last. The war against Castol rages on, the Atreena remains lost, and the dread god Nyx has not forgotten the bargain struck in blood. Enemies gather, allies are stretched thin, and Eli must confront not only the threats beyond the forest—but the darkness rising within himself.

Full of heart-pounding action, unforgettable characters, and richly woven lore, The Shadows of Memory is a tale of resilience, love tested by fire, and a hero forced to walk the razor’s edge between hope and despair. Fans of Bernard Cornwell, Raymond E. Feist, and Brandon Sanderson will be swept away in this next epic chapter of The Eli Chronicles.

It took a while to get going, quite a while in fact. I am of the opinion that Mr Edelheit is rushing his writing. Most authors write one maybe two novels per annum. Mr Edelheit churns out multiple books. Maybe if he slowed down a touch the quality would improve. Don't get me wrong, I am a massive fan of Marc's. I just feel his is too quick. and cut out the 'Americanism's' and use the English vocabulary to its best. Cut out 'hecks', 'holler', 'brush', 'toss instead use throw'!

This is a set up for the book to come

75 per cent of the book is getting to the only real action in it. Then a good fight scene. The plot sets up the next installment. Well, it was over two years ago that there was a similar wait begun for this one. Hope I live to read it. You can take that as a recommendation.

The story begins with a beaten and battered Eli recovering from the beat-down he received at the end of Lutha Nyx. With Mae's assistance, Eli begins to regain his strength and get back to the hunt for Mik'las. After reuniting with some familiar faces, Eli finds himself in some deep and dangerous territory (thoroughly unexpected and not like Eli at all... right?)

There're quite a few pieces here that play into the larger Karus/Sigerverse, and it's something that you don't want to miss.

Nice Job

Another good one in the series that leaves you wanting more. More questions left unanswered which again leaves you wanting more. Fantastic world creation, action, romance, magic and so much more.

strange book but a good one

I like all of Marc’s books. This one I thought could’ve used a little more action, but it was pretty good anyway.

The first time I’ve been disappointed by Marc. A rushed novel with next to nothing for 80% of the book. I remain a multi-series fan, so faith isn’t lost…
