“All tricks and games amount to nothing in the face of absolute power.” This is the principle I live by, cutting ties where others would start scandals. My village has become a bastion of strength, attracting allies and enemies alike. The daughter of my enemy seeks my protection. Spies of powerful families dig for my secrets.

However, I will not hide in the shadows. The neighboring villages need a defender. From the scattered communities, I will gather a squad and lead them into the very heart of ancient evil. To a temple where human sacrifices were once made, and the Soulless have accumulated strength for centuries. There, where a squad of skilled streltsy met their doom, I will snatch victory from the jaws of the Reaper and transform my village into an impenetrable fortress against the encroaching darkness.

Nice “calm” read. good

Usually there is action action action. That didn’t necessarily happen in this book. There was a lot of fighting of the Soulless. This book contained a lot of intrigue. A few surprises, such as Polina, and a lot of story that was cool and interesting.

Excellent

Non stop action with a nice amount of main characters that are easy to keep track of making for an enjoyable read.

The following is written instantly after finishing the 3rd book.

First of all, this is still a pretty good book. The story is pretty interesting and as a reader you have no Idea what's gonna happen next. Also the humor is spot on, not too much not too little.

But on the contrary to the first two books there are quite a few styling mistakes which make it hard to get into a reading flow. For example one time the exact same paragraph repeats two times in a row. Or another time the story switches between first person perspective and third person perspective.

My last critique is that I am getting confused from all the names. Part of it is prolly because I am not used to russian names and another part is that the author switches between surenames and last names. It would be really helpful if that wouldn't happen but its more a personal preference than critique I guess.

I am hopeful the style will get back to the usual quality of this series because it is a really good one

The first part of this book I enjoyed but it ended with a Scooby-Doo mystery which is stupid.

Overall the story has been enjoyable, a little predictable but decent main character with the world building that was growing and expanding with this supporting characters helping.
It's not a bad story but it doesn't stand out as anything great as yet, but it is enjoyable but nothing I would want to read again. The end of this book disappointed me because a simple mystery trope like a bad Scooby-Doo adventure which is really just lazy riding by the author. Introducing new characters to build out his city and expansion is just starting to be a little paint by numbers. I may try book four but this book sort of turned me off overall especially the ending.

I have really enjoyed the series so far, but I thought this book had a few more problems than usual.
The author diverted away from the main story for most of the book and filled it with side ventures, which were OK, but I finished the book with the impression they were partly designed just to stretch out the story and fill extra pages.
On the subject of finishing, I didn’t like the ending, just stopping the story almost mid sentence just seemed like a ploy to get the reader to immediately buy the next book.
Also there were a couple of occasions when a block of text was repeat word for word on the next page.

So this one kind of went off the rails:

Good entertainment

I like that the protagonist doesn't feel too op if a bit too all knowing. It seemed unlikely that experiences from his world always seem to be applicable here as well.

I quite liked the quirks and personality of the side characters which give the story more depth.

Decent read

I started reading the series because it was supposed to have six books completed. I have read better and worse but doubt I will continue since I will even remember it by the time the fourth book is actually released. Good luck
