My First Mistake

What do you do when your boyfriend cheats on you six days before your brother’s wedding? The same wedding where you’re the maid of honor and the man who obliterated your heart eight years ago is the best man?

I can tell you what you should not do. You should absolutely not have an emotional meltdown and let your soon to be sister-in-law find you crying into a glass of pink wine. Because then she will tell your overprotective big brother that you’re heartbroken (even if you’re not), and he will take it upon himself to ask the one man he trusts above all others to look out for you. Yes, same best man.

And that’s why I arrive at my beautiful secluded cabin in the woods to find Chase Hunter has already made himself at home. Despite how much I’m supposed to hate him, there are certain parts of my anatomy that don’t quite get the memo.

But I will resist at all costs. I’m not the naïve nineteen year old who thought the sun shone out of his … well, you get the picture.

No matter how charming he is, how he still takes care of me in the smallest and sweetest of ways, or how I feel even the slightest brush of his skin more deeply than I’ve felt anything else in years, I will not look into those striking blue eyes and let him fool me again.

He was my first mistake, and one I don’t plan on making again. Except … well, Chase has other ideas. He was my first everything, and he’s determined to be my last.

You have to turn your brain off to enjoy this book, because if you read too deeply into it, it will just piss you off.

Off the bat, both the MCs annoyed me. h is a 27 yo florist who walks in on her bf cheating on her in HER apartment on HER couch. He’s a jobless, pothead who can’t hold a job because he high and forgets to actually watch the security monitors. While she’s in shock, her ex is trying to console her and let her down easy. OW is in her bathroom, cleaning her bf’s cum off her tits, clogging her toilet by flushing said bf’s condom down the toilet, and spraying h’s Jo Malone perfume. The way you’d have to call the cops on me because I would have thrown both their asses out buttnaked the second I walked in on that horror.

So she does break up with him (well done), but she’s freaking out because now she’s gonna have to go to her brother’s wedding without a date, and it’s in like 6 days. She admits their relationship was dead but she just wanted a date so she didn’t show up single and pathetic in front of the best man, her brother’s BFF and her other cheating ex aka her first mistake (H). So she gets pathetic drunk and the bride finds her crying into a glass of wine. As a result, her brother gets the brilliant idea to tell his bestie to spend the wedding with her in her cabin, that way he can keep an eye on her. He is supposedly very worried about her staying alone after the break up and has no idea about the history between the two of them.

H and h grew up together. He was close with her brother and the bride, h is a couple years younger than them. h always had a crush on him but obviously didn’t want to ruin the friendship so she held back. Then he comes home from college for the holidays when he’s 21 and she’s 19/20 and they hook up. It’s actually awful. When he comes home for the holidays, he’s still suffering from the loss of his mother. So he’s been on a bender sleeping with anything that moves. His ex also tracks him down and stays at his house with his other friend Freddie. He hits it off with h and she ends up giving him her virginity and he assures her this isn’t gonna be a casual thing.

The next morning, literal hours after he’s been with h and is still “covered in her cum”, he goes home and tells his ex it’s over. She undresses and asks him for one last time to prove that they aren’t good together, and h walks in on him basically getting a handjob from buttnaked ex. He’s imagining h, but keep in mind this is happening literal hours after she lost her V card. She’s pissed and runs off, tells him he’s a total POS and his mom would be ashamed if she saw him now. Threatens to stake him through the heart with a stiletto if he ever shows up in their home town again.

His reason for cheating was the usual I was young and he’s “messed up”. It’s his second holiday after his mom passed and he wasn’t doing well. Tbh this all just pissed me off to the max because we get the scene from his POV, he had promised her brother if he ever hooked up with h, it wouldn’t be casual and they’d be a serious thing. So how is it ok to cheat on her immediately after? He claims he wouldn’t have gone through with it, but I doubt that because he was fully into it imagining ex was h. Which I don’t consider consolation but maybe the pick me’s will. On top of that to really hammer things home, doormat h goes back a few hours after the cheating to give him another chance since he’s going through “so much”, only to overhear him telling his other friend she means nothing and it was a meaningless fuck she begged for. Yeahhhh that’s would be the nail in the coffin for me.

So H is understandably apprehensive about seeing h again after 8 years. They’ve been around the same people and kept tabs on each other but haven’t physically been in the same room in 8 years. Oh also, h never told her brother or his fiancée about what happened. So they have no idea what a POS H is. I don’t know why she protected this POS, but ok.

The grovel is non existent, he’s flirting with her off the bat when they end up sharing a cabin. A cabin she booked to spend the wedding with her bf that comes equipped with a sex dungeon and only one bed. He does some nice things for her and she’s basically already peeling her clothes off. He apologizes and claims he’s changed blah blah. Stands up for her when her ex shows up after the wedding is done to win her back.

They hook up after the wedding, then she tries to sneak off the next morning but they get snowed in. She doesn’t trust him not to break her heart again but he claims to be all in. Eventually they get together. He moves back from LA, buys her the dream house she wanted in town, get married and have a kid on the way in the epilogue.

I hated both the MCs. h is pathetic. H was a cheating manwhore who used his mommy issues to justify his shitty behavior toward his best friend’s sister. Like the very aware cheating literal hours after he took h’s virginity disgusts me. He literally says he was getting a handjob covered in h’s cum and wasn’t sure if he would have gone all the way. I don’t think he would have confessed he cheated either if she hadn’t seen it, obviously that isn’t discussed. They both date and sleep with other people during the separation. Funnily, H claims he isn’t a hound dog. But like we saw him at a bar before traveling for the wedding being hit on by the bartender. He even admits he’d have taken her home but didn’t because h was on his mind again. LMAOO if that had only stopped him cheating before, they wouldn’t even be in this situation.

The spice is hot though 🌶️🌶️🌶️, so if you read this mindlessly for the smut alone, you’ll enjoy it.

DNF @ 30%

What do you mean the MMC cheated on the FMC like immediately after they slept together when she was an 18yo virgin, she overheard him telling his friends she didn’t mean anything to him, and he never apologized in 8 years, and she’s chill flirting with him not even 24 hours after seeing him? Yeah no I’m good thanks!

safety:
it contains on page detailed cheating.
he cheated on her 8 years ago with his ex, 2 hours after taking her virginity.
fastforward 8 years later, she falls right into bed with him and takes him back immidiately after him being like " woe is me, my mom died, i was young blah blah blah"
i was waiting for a plottwist, that he didn't actually cheat but nope we see him cheating from his own POV where he allowed the ow to straddle him, undress him and give him a handjob.
he straight up agreed to one last fuck with his ex before committing to the fmc, it ended up being a hand job because the fmc walked in on them before the got to the sex part.
mind you she was going to forgive him immediately after the cheating except she heard him tell his friend that she was just a one time lay and he just used her for sex, so she left. and this was after his friend called his ex hotter than the fmc which the mmc never denied nor defended the fmc
-́neither was celibate during the 8 years.
mmc was a big pos and loser and idk how sadie decided he was mmc material.

Lo he superado.

Chase y Addie son una pareja que me ha gustado realmente y me alegro de haber leído su historia. Me he divertido y emocionado. Todo lo que esperaba.

Thank you, Sadie, for this fantastic book. I'll be reading more of your work soon. I hope your books about the mafia are as good as this one.

I was gifted an ARC of this book this morning and it was amazing! I’m grateful!!

Notice I said this morning. I devoured this. I think it took me like 3, maybe 4 hours?

Sadie, you evil minx, you never disappoint.
This wasn’t as spicy as we’re used to with Sadie books and I am not even mad. Kind of loved the switch up!!!

The plot was so sweet. Chase and Addie are so good together and I just really love this story. It had a good amount of spice (Chase is delicious btw) and the story line was cute, I also really loved the family and other characters in this one! So so good.

Forced proximity, brother’s best friend, and a cute plot? I am IN. This was exactly what I needed.

Letting you know there will be spoilers in order for me to say why I’m giving this book a 2⭐️ review.

As much as I love enemies/ lovers, because that’s favorite trope. ❤️However, I am not into cheating, I don’t care what excuse the mmc has, or how much “groveling” he does. It’s an automatic no for me.

I knew the mmc had messed up but wasn’t sure what the actual reason was. Until we get to that scene and wtf?
I’ve read about crazy unhinged mafia men that would not do what Chase did.🤬
You’re telling me that the person he loved since he was a teenager/adult decided to fck his bestfriends sister, take her virginity when he was still with his other girlfriend? Oh that’s not all, 😤Then he leaves her house goes back to the place he is staying with his “current” gf and fks her right after??? 😡Adding to the cherry on top, poor 18 year old Addie sees him going at it with another woman 30 mins later they had sex.🤬
Within the 8years he never called to apologize, never came to visit. no “groveling” was done. Him saying sorry couple of times is not GROVELING!!! 😬🤬

I hate cheaters in real life and fictional ones. 🖕🏻I may have been somewhat okay with him just kissing another woman for like a second, but him literally having sex with his gf after he had sex with Addie, bro was a double cheater. 😠How was Chase different from Jasper? They both cheated on her. Men in the real world are assholes as it is, I don’t need my fictional men to act that way as well.

And for that I’m giving it a 2 ⭐️ only two because the fmc was a wonderful character and she deserved way more than Chase.

Liked it, but had an ick.

Ok, let me preface this by saying that I love this author, and I wanted to love this book.

*minor spoiler ahead*

I wish this book had a trigger warning page or something to let me know that the MC cheated on the fmc. The book starts with her current boyfriend having just been caught cheating on her, then we get the story of why she hates the MC and honestly, she had every reason to. And then after holding onto that anger and heartbreak for the last 8 years, she sees him what, forgets she was mad because he's "so handsome"? Give me a break. The MC seemed to hold a bigger grudge against his own actions than she did, and while that made it bearable to finish the book, cheating isn't a quality I want in any MC of any book that I read.

For me Sadie is sexy mafia bosses, hot vampires and fierce female characters, so I was curious how a lovely dovey Christmas romance could by written by the same author. But boy I was wrong!

My First Mistake is filled with so much of the well known banter, loyalty and strong personalities as always. So much that I read it in one day.
I love Addie and Chase’s honesty and that he goes after what he wants. And the confidence Addie shows with her own sexuality and desires- chef’s kiss.

My First Mistake is a complete standalone far away from any of Sadie’s other universes, but don’t be fooled by the sweet cartoonish cover. This book is as spicy as any other Sadie book. So be ready for some serious heat.

It a short, quick read. Perfect for a cosy winter day.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy yesterday morning and let me tell you I ate it all up! Sadie, Sadie, Sadie, is there anything you can’t write ?!
This is the perfect mix of boy falls in love with girl but fucked it up and girl fighting hard to ignore the pull between them even after x amount of years. As Sur Kincaid said, his spice-o-meter rates it 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ comparing Chase with Shane Ryan 🥵🥵

1.5 stars! I thought this was going to be some sweet, smutty Christmas book and H was going to be a filthy talking green flag….and he was, until he wasn’t. 😡 (possible spoilers ahead)

”Red flags are green if you squint in just the right way”
(No amount of squinting is going to make red look green 😩)

*backstory you find out much later in the book on why h “hates” H *

H and h hooked up when she was 19. H was 21. h was a V. He made her promises that sounded like she wasn’t just an ONS for him. They have lots of smex, then H leaves that morning to take care of some business.

He went back to his place, and his ex (OW) was there. She wanted to shag him. She also knew he had just come from another woman’s bed. She got naked. From his POV, we know he was going to pretend she was h and have smex with her(seriously…his POV said he was going to close his eyes and pretend she was h). OW straddled him and had her hand on his junk. We also know from his POV, his junk still had h’s cum all over it. 😒😒 h walked in and saw all this. He totally would have bonked OW if he wasn’t interrupted. Think about that for a second- he literally just spent all night long having smex with h. They had just had another round right before he left. So..not even an hour later, he was going to fuxk OW. He even let her naked body touch him with h’s cum still on him. I don’t remember if they kissed, but I do know he did oral on h….so eek. That’s just a whole level of F’ing disgusting.

Naturally, h took off. Later, she came back to talk with him(girrrrl, wtf are you doing?) but she overheard him tell his friend h was nothing to him and the smex was nothing. His POV tells us he was just lying to his friend and that he really really really really loves h. Riiiight.
———————-
For 8 years, h has avoided H (don’t blame her). She also never told anybody about H, not even her brother (who was BFF with H)
Now h’s brother is getting married, and both H and h are in the wedding. h had just caught her ex cheating on her. (This whole scene was so nasty and frankly, not very realistic) h seems to have a knack for picking out losers.

Anyway, meddling relatives decide H and h need to stay in the same cabin. It takes a few days, but it is not long before they do the body tango.
There is absolutely no grovel. He apologizes and blames everything on his dead mom. 🤷‍♀️

For some really F’ing dumb reason, there’s a smex dungeon in the cabin. It’s not that important to the story. It came right from the Christian Grey handbook (red room, whips, butt plugs). They never used it.

They get snowed in, and we get a very cringey “backdoor” smex scene.

The brother/BFF came to help dig them out from the snow, and he’s not surprised at all that they are together. We found out years ago, H and BFF made a pact that if H hooked up with his sister, he wouldn’t hurt her (he broke that promise 🙃)

So… H and h go their separate ways. He’s telling her to “trust him” and she’s like “I do” WTF? He said he’s going to work everything out so they can be together.
They are separated for 12 days. He shows up and informs h he’s moving to her town. His work is now mostly remote, he bought her dream house, and he’s all in. HEA with a baby on the way in the epilogue.

It’s probably a ME thing, but I prefer my Christmas romance books not to be like this.

Eek 😬

‼️ Spoiler but only because what SHOULD have been disclosed in the blurb wasn't:

Ik we're not out here making redemption arcs for cheaters (derogatory) and having the FMC trip all over herself to accept him back the moment he decides he wants her again............

Yeah you read that right, the recent ex mentioned in the blurb wasn't the only cheater, but we're supposed to hate him while still finding this guy a worthy MMC.

Spice & Kinks

When Addison catches her boyfriend cheating she is only upset because now she will have to attend her brother's wedding alone and face the man who broke her heart 8 years ago while single and I front of her entire family. Of course no one knows what happened between her and Chase but it's Chase's biggest regret. Maybe this weekend he can apologise for what happened or if he grovels enough maybe get a second chance with the only girl he has ever loved.
I love Sadie Kincaid books and have read quite a few of them especially her "Ruthless" series's. This festive read did not disappoint and had the perfect balance of sass, spice and heart. I loved it and recommend it to anyone's TBR or next read.

Thank you to Sadie Kincaid for sending me the ARC for this book!

I absolutely loved this book, I can not say enough great things about it honestly. This story is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The characters were very relatable, they were written so well and made me absolutely giddy at times. The setting was fun, and I felt like I could really feel what the characters were feeling during certain parts of this book.

Also that spice, whew, I should not have expected anything less than top tier spice from Sadie. This book had so much spice and I kind of wish we got sooo much more for Chase and Addie, I wish I could have read their life story for so much longer.

This was such a cute holiday romance, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The tension between the characters had me hooked from the start. It was the perfect mix of push, pull, and “just kiss already!” energy. I especially loved the flashbacks woven throughout the story; they added so much depth and made their history feel real and emotional.

The chemistry between the main characters was undeniable, and watching them find their way back to each other gave me all the warm, festive feels. If you love second-chance vibes, holiday magic, and a touch of angst, this one is a cozy seasonal must-read.

I was at the edge of my seat waiting! The praise from Chase had me melting into a puddle! I loved how certain parts were so cute and chaste and other parts were so naughty! The book was great!

Urgh, just no, this book is not good and it just made me angry. I honestly just kept reading as it was so short and I wanted to see if it got better. It did not.

I wish I'd read the reviews before I read this book, there's no trigger warning page and of course it had to contain the one trope I absolutely HATE to read about.

The characters were not likeable in the slightest and I didn't care for their story. Chase was an absolute dog and I hated him. Addie was immature and I thought she was much younger than she was portrayed.

I'm sad as I usually enjoy Sadie's books but this one was just a big no from me. On the bright side, its only just over 200 pages so it was thankfully a quick read!

ARC Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️

I was a bit hesitant going into this, knowing beforehand that it was named one of Sadie's less spicy books - she's the queen of spice so I was skeptical. Now, I will admit, this is a different direction for Sadie, she writes some absolute KILLER unhinged mafia romances so the choice to pivot to more of a sweeter romance was intriguing. But, I must say, this was better than I had imagined, albeit it does drag a little at the start, but when it hots up, BOY DOES IT! 🔥

I think in my head I was expecting this to be on par with one of Sadie's mafia novellas 'A Ryan Christmas'. It wasn't as unhinged, but it stood it's ground in its own unique way. I much preferred the second half of the story though, just because I felt that I finally got a glimpse of a connection that Chase and Addie had; I struggled to feel anything for them at the start because their history was about something Chase had done to destroy their friendship, but you don't actually find this out until 40% in, so I think for the most part I was just kinda waiting for the pin to drop.

Fav Quotes:

"One of these days Addie, I'm going to spank your ass when you roll those pretty eyes at me"
"How do they look?"..."I'm not sure. I think I need to see them as they're supposed to be worn." ..."You mean like with a dress or something?"..."No, baby. I mean like take everything off except the heels."

This is a fun, short, hot Christmas read - do stick with it if you want a taster of how well Sadie writes spice 😮‍💨

My First Mistake by Sadie Kincaid
🎧
Performed in duet by Mollie Stark & Joe Arden

Okay, so I lied when I said I don’t read holiday romance… because this one clearly is, and I absolutely loved it. OMG, who even am I?
Not only is this a holiday romance, but it’s also second chance, brother’s best friend, forced proximity, snowed in, and emotionally charged in all the ways I adore. It was honestly perfection. Sadie Kincaid delivered everything I love in a romance, layered with tension, yearning, and just the right amount of angst.

And can we talk about the audiobook? Because WOW. Mollie Stark and Joe Arden together should honestly come with a warning label. If you love audiobooks and you see their names attached, you already know to run, not walk. The chemistry was off the charts, the emotional beats hit hard, and the spice? Sizzling. Add Blue Nose Audio’s production quality to the mix and it’s pure magic. Fireworks. Standing ovation.

This was cozy, emotional, spicy, and addictive. Forced proximity never fails me, and this one did it so right.

⭐️ 5 stars (story)

⭐️ 5 stars (narration & production)

Tropes:
- Brother's Best friend
- Second Chance Romance
- Forced Proximity
- Enemies to Lovers (minimal)

Such a quick, fun and spicy read! Honestly the perfect Holiday novella that will give you a good laugh but also has a super swoony second chance romance between Addie and her brother's best friend Chase. Loved the chemistry and connection between these two. I don't want to give too much away since this is a short read, but I truly enjoyed it and honestly wouldn't have been mad if it had been longer as I really liked both of them. Chase makes up for the mistake he made between him and Addie when he was young and I love a man who can own up to his wrongdoings, better himself and grovel/fight for his woman.

I really enjoyed the story between Addie and Chase. I love that we got a little bit of their past and got to see them reconnect years later. Sadie always knows how to write a story with enough plot to keep you interested and the best romance. This one will have you laughing and feeling good. The banter between these two was the best time. Definitely not a heavy read which is perfect for a cozy Holiday read that will give you all the butterflies.

Thank you, Sadie, for the ARC.

This is such a fun holiday romance! It’s so funny and cozy (well also super spicy…so cozy spice??) This story is also emotional and had me in my feels and then I was back to swooning and laughing - and yes most definitely blushing!

It’s been 8 years since Chase broke Addie’s heart and now her brother is getting married and she’s the maid of honor and Chase is the best man…and thanks to her brother, they are sharing a secluded cabin…it’s only 4 days right?

The banter and the tension between them is so good!! Addie is so funny and her internal dialogue had me laughing and smiling.

I love a good grovel and Chase definitely delivered. He took responsibility for what happened and really gave her the space to work through her feelings….and let’s just say he has quite the mouth on him!!

Also, I LOVED the chapter headings - be sure and read them!!

✨What To Expect:

I absolutely loved My First Mistake! Sadie Kincaid delivers all the good stuff — brother’s-best-friend, forced proximity, second chances, and plenty of spice.
The story follows Addie, who’s determined to avoid her brother’s best friend, Chase — the guy who once broke her heart and became her “first mistake.” But thanks to wedding duties, holiday chaos, and some forced proximity, the two end up thrown back together… and all those old feelings (and all that chemistry!) come rushing right back.
Addie and Chase had me completely hooked; their chemistry is wild, their drama is delicious, and their emotional moments hit just right.
The Christmas vibes and wedding chaos made it even more fun, and I flew through this book in one sitting. It’s the perfect mix of angst, heat, and heart, and exactly why I bloody love Sadie’s writing.
Huge thanks to Sadie for the ARC — I had the best time with this one!

4.5⭐️/3🌶️

I had no idea what to expect when I saw that Sadie was writing a contemporary romance. I went in completely blind and honestly, it was the best decision. This book still has everything you expect from Sadie: the plot that keeps you hooked, the spice, the sharp banter… but all wrapped in this soft, swoony, feel good package.💕

Chase and Addie were the perfect duo to ease readers into Sadie’s world without the darker romance elements she’s known for. Their chemistry, their dynamic, their moments, everything came together so effortlessly 🙌🏼

If you’ve been curious about Sadie’s writing but hesitant about the dark romance side, this is the ideal starting point. Charming, sweet, spicy and absolutely worth the read.

This might be better than two stars, because I’m definitely a mood reader, and apparently I was not in the mood for this one, even though I’m absolutely inhaling Christmas books right now.

Chase? Not forgiven. Not in my book. I get the whole young, gonna through shit, bad choices angle, but nope, he fucked up bad. Did he grovel? Sure. Was it enough? Also no. Personally, I think I would’ve stabbed him with that stiletto eight years ago and kept it moving.

Addison wasn’t exactly lovable either. She had her moments, but a lot of the time she was just… fine. An okay FMC, nothing more.

The second half of the book is about 97% spice, which is usually fine for me, but since I didn’t really care about either character, the spice was just that… spice. Been there, done that, read that. Next 🤣

Okay, maybe this is truly just my mood and this review shouldn’t even count 🤣

No third-act breakup, HEA.
