He comes to me through a lattice in a confessional booth in my church.
He’s brash, vulgar, and confessing to things that would send him to hell, and yet, I find myself intrigued by the mysterious man.
His sinful words thrill me. His way of life, so different from my own, has me coveting excitement that’s long been missing. The more I’m around him, the more I realize how long I’ve been deprived of so much, and the more my own deviance begins to emerge.
On paper, nothing about the two of us makes sense, and there are many reasons why I should keep my distance. I try to be pious, but if anyone were to find the skeletons in my closet, I’d be excommunicated from the church.
When something from my past reveals itself, I find myself being pulled into a way of life I didn’t think would be in my future, and now I straddle the line between right and wrong. Morality vs necessity.
I’m a priest. He’s a murderer. But we’re both sinners.

"Do you want to see me again?" I study him - my complete opposite. He's a criminal, violent, vulgar, and likely a sinner beyond saving. I'm a priest who strives to live my life with obedience, and in a way that Christ would. But I'm also a priest with secrets and demons, just like anyone else. I know I should say no. But I don't want to."

What To Expect:
🖤MM romance ✝️Catholic priest x Mafia hitman ❤️Taboo/forbidden 🖤Opposites attract ✝️Forced proximity ❤️Dark themes 🖤Antihero ✝️Steamy AF ❤️HEA
Sins of the Father is an enticing forbidden romance between a reluctant, questioning priest and a criminal enforcer. Together, these two share sizzling chemistry where both of their occupations fade away once they are in a room together. Their occupations are initially in opposition, but the conversations that erupt from their differences eventually lead to many moments of common ground.
I was very interested in this premise. It is unique and quite forbidden, and seeing how the initial connection between Javier and Carlo is so powerful, I couldn't help but root for these two to find their way back to each other even though their circumstances are dire, impossible, and entirely foreboding.
Overall, this is an intense story full of steamy moments that finds the right balance between forbidden intensity and complete devotion.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
Sins Of The Father is a MM forbidden romance story about Carlo and Javier.
Carlo is a priest in the only Catholic Church in the small town of Crest Haven. His father is the boss of a crime family. When he found out Carlo was gay, he forced him into the priesthood. Javier is a mafia hitman. He just so happens to stop in Carlo’s confessional, and I loved how Javier was so vulgar and blunt. They both were definitely intrigued by each other. Javier ends up going back to Carlo, and we see things take off from there.
I was so invested in Carlo and Javier’s story. There were things that happened that I wasn’t expecting and it was very suspenseful. There was violence and murder. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it, especially because there are things you will want to experience reading first hand.
Carlo and Javier may have been opposites, but I loved how they wanted each other no matter what. They could be their true selves with each other. I just devoured this book, needing to know how it was all going to play out. In the end, I really enjoyed Carlo and Javier’s story. I absolutely loved these two together and wish I could get more of them.
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
finding a priest x mafia/hitman romance that worked for me felt like my third eye opened. i was ascending. floating. flying. the first flagellation scene (there's three and they're all good) gave me wings.
more of a 3 star for actual quality, but 4.5 star for enjoyment. story could have benefitted from an extra 50 pages for a deeper (and more believable) connection that ran deeper than a few conversations and a whole lot of sex, but the characters had enough chemistry to still sell it. the ending as a whole might not hold up with the same strength as the first 70% but i still just might? just maybe? have a new favorite isabel lucero book.
A priest and a murdered are trapped in a confessional…it’s getting hot in here father!
Carlo was such a dichotomy, he had been quite literally indoctrinated into his beliefs since he was 19 and his prior life had been the opposite of his teachings. He had to live with that, the deaths, his fathers choices, his own sexuality being considered a sin and now the mortality of said father that pushed him into this life he never wanted, his own mortality and the growing feelings for a man that’s as deep into the underworld as his father. He was such a complex and rich character and I loved seeing his thought process and his struggle with faith, because at the end of the day, love really weighs more than forced teachings and habit.
But my man Javi, ugh he was delicious. He was a man who said he couldn’t play in black and white, he had to be the gray in the world. He thought having his hands bloodied and hiding a part of him would be enough of a life until he walked inside a church and saw that maybe faith was learned but fate was inescapable. How could he resist a priest with the same gray peaking over the clerical collar, and plus he was nice to look at. Javi confronted his current live with a possible future next to Carlo and it was safe to say he started praying for a future together.
And I feel the need to mention Carlo’s dad…I wanted to hate him, and I did for a while because even if I understood his decision and why he did it, he still did more damage than good, but as someone who is not a parent, I imagine the sacrifice of happiness is better than the loss of a person entirely. And I would rather my loved one be happy than alive, so I can’t relate to him, because I would rather die than make someone I love feel rejected and uncomfortable in his own skin just because of his sexuality even if it would protect him from death. BUT he was also a layered character and I truly wanted him to be a parent to Carlo, a real parent, for them to have that opportunity and relationship.
I do have to say, as an only child, just the thought that my mother (sorry I don’t have a dad lol) would chose to “take under her wing” someone else while pushing me away from her life would have me crashing out so badly no one would survive…but that’s just me :)
The complex’s topics of religion and sexuality were discussed and handled in what I consider to be an excellent way. We could see all angles, the man who doesn’t have a god, the one who wants one and the one who made himself one. It all revolves around the mafia world, the power and control and it changes each character so much. But it adds to the growth and change and it makes it feel raw and real.
And the running plot was actually super interesting and intriguing. I liked all the elements alone and even better out together, the only thing that makes me not give this a full 5 star is the pacing. I found myself thinking “why are we still on this?” a little too many times; as well as the POV changes, I kinda wish it’d been more inclusive, not a jump after all those chapters in Carlo’s head to then Javi’s head for another bunch of chapters. I feel like the plot and twist could still be preserved and we could have seen Javi’s POV earlier.
Thank you so much, TAA and Isabel, for this e-arc!
Quotes:
He's looking at me like I'm a challenge that he's already accepted. Dear God, give me strength.
"You got me on my knees, Father. Should I make a confession?" I nod once. "I'm about to ruin your life."
"I'm making my decision now. It's not about a job, the mafia, or my father. I'm choosing you, because going back to a life without you isn't something I'm interested in."
"Good. Is there anything else you'd like to confess?" "I've never felt closer to heaven than when I'm with you."
A dark, forbidden MM romance with Hitman x Priest, unexpected but oh so good Mafia connection 🤭, lots of sinning 😉, forced proximity, teasing, conflict, adorable love, action, twists & a hard-earned HEA! I knew this'll be fun, I loved Carlo & Javier so much. I read slowly due to college mostly, savored my #ARC! I'd made theory notes while reading 😁.
Carlo is a Priest. Prim, proper, smart but has a mask of forced persona, a hypocrite. He's gay, conflicted & deprived, will rules win or his need for affection & thrills? I like when he gets bossy 🤭. Javier is a Hitman. Brash, smug, flirty with blood on his hands & no remorse about it. He's an equal opportunist, caring & wants to make C sin 🤭. C & J are both such dichotomies.
They're all sinners, with secrets. Maybe it was fate or coincidence that J 1st got into C's church, but intrigue & curiosity kept them coming back 🤭. I like that they keep up the lies, aren't fully honest until truth's known & DON'T go into dangerous situations alone—I'm pleasantly surprised!
Light & Dark collide. Their chemistry's fire 🔥, their teasing, snark is fun. C's got a pain kink 🥵. I love me vers couple, the fight for dominance is fun tho C does like to yield mostly 😆. Both filthy hot with that dirty talk. They're so adorable with gentle touches & intimacy 😭❤️. Just a hookup? Uh Obsessed 🤭. However dark the book got, their relationship's sweet! J wanted C to choose him 🥺. I loved J's religious kink 😂.
'Sins of the Father' pertains to not only Carlo who's a Priest but also C+J's fathers. Pretty cool! C+J are what they are due to their fathers. C's dad Cortez (Mafia boss) has a big role here, his complicated relationship with C gives me mixed feelings. I wanted action which Javier & Johnny 😤 gives me. I was itching for a twist, but that?! I'm shocked 😭🤯. Thank you Boss for J+C's forced proximity 🙏, I liked him at end. C+J are a hot power couple 🥵!! Adored the epilogue. I'd love to get bonuses ⚔️, maybe sexy times in church?!
✨ARC review Thank you to the author Isabel Lucero for this advanced copy of 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 in exchange for an honest review!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Truthfully I was not sure what to expect with this story and I’m so glad I gave it a chance! Immediately I loved the amusing exchange between Javier & Carlo, the instigating, the talk of everyone being sinners, the deal to reveal sins only if the other does. I KNEW these two were going to be a fun time. Starting from a place of completely opposite sides of the moral spectrum the connection between them quickly & revealed to be more intertwined. There were moral dilemmas experienced in this story and you couldn’t help but sympathize with them. The forbidden aspect of their relationship was sizzling. “𝘞𝘦'𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬. 𝘐 𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘰, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵?𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺.” Carlo especially had to decide who his true self was & who he wanted to be. There were two sides to him, one from the life he grew up in and the one from the life he was practically forced into. Through harsh circumstances, good & bad proved to not be so black & white. It might have been fate that brought these two together so hopefully it doesn’t tear them apart too. “𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐'𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘮. 𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯, 𝘐'𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘮.” 🥹😭
Is it a sin to say I kinda loved this? Like it's incredibly taboo and very cliche, but this actually had a solid mob-boss war plot.
I even teared up at one plot. THAT NEVER HAPPENS DURING MAFIA ROMANCES! What can I say?! I would wouldn't be mad with a second installment of the salacious happenings of Carlo and Javier!
A priest with a past he can’t outrun, a criminal who tempts him toward everything he’s been taught to resist…it’s addictive.
The way Carlo wrestles with his faith, his sexuality, and his family legacy was written so beautifully. The tension between who he is and who he was forced to be? Perfection. Watching him unravel...piece by piece - until he owns the darkness he was born into? Breathtaking. That slow, inevitable fall was glorious.
The way he slid from priest to heir of a crime family so seamlessly had me clapping like a proud sinner.
And Javier? The chemistry between them is electric - dangerous, emotional, and just the right amount of forbidden. They save each other in ways neither of them expects, and it’s absolutely captivating.
This wasn’t just spice. This was sacrilege with feeling. 10/10, would confess about it later.

another complete hit by isabel in the books!! the development between these two was sooo perfect & full of naught tension! that built on to this crazy relationship these two had to keep up while going on with the plot & i loved it so much!!
"Sins of the Father" was actually my first book by this author, and I have to say, it was a great way to start. Right from the beginning, I was hooked. At its core, this is the story of two men living in opposite worlds, one shaped by good, the other by evil, and how their lives become unexpectedly intertwined in ways neither could've predicted.
Carlo is a Catholic priest, a path he didn’t really choose for himself; instead, it was a complicated, protective move by his father. In the ruthless and unforgiving world of the Mafia, being gay is seen as a weakness, something that could get a man killed. So, his father forced him to hide his true nature by joining the church, believing it was the only way to keep him safe. Carlo’s been living a life that isn’t really his, a life marked by internal struggle as he’s forced to deny his authentic self in order to survive.
On the other side, there’s Javier, the son of a notorious hitman. After his father was murdered years ago, Javier stepped up and followed in his footsteps, diving into a world full of crime and danger. He’s been living for revenge and trying to keep his dad’s legacy alive.
When Carlo and Javier meet, sparks fly right away. Despite the immense differences in their backgrounds and the moral divides that separate them, they can’t help but be drawn to each other. Carlo, who’s always relied on his faith to get him through, suddenly feels tempted to leave the church and the life he’s known for so long.
Circumstances conspire to keep them together, and the initial spark between them grows into a powerful, all-consuming attraction. The tension is palpable as they struggle with their feelings, knowing how much they both stand to lose.
What really made the book stand out for me is the depth and complexity of both main characters. These are not cardboard cutouts; they are deeply flawed, nuanced men with real struggles and are easy to connect with.
Carlo’s whole life has been a cover-up, a mask he was forced to wear to hide his true self from the world, and it starts to fall apart once Javier gets close. Javier, in turn, finds himself stepping into the role of Carlo’s protector when the dangerous world Carlo’s father tried to shield him from comes calling. Their relationship is intense and full of emotional twists, and both have to face their pasts and figure out what they really want.
Another highlight is how the book refuses to put its characters in neat little boxes. There’s no clear line between good and evil; instead, it shows you that everyone has a mix of both. Carlo and Javier are shaped by their circumstances and choices, but ultimately, it’s their connection that helps them really find themselves.
After all the detours, roadblocks, and moments of doubt, Carlo’s life finds its way back to the path that was meant for him. The book does a cool job showing how fate and faith, two concepts that often seem at odds, end up shaping and adding a fascinating layer to the story. Carlo’s fate has always been to reclaim his father’s legacy, but it’s his faith that guides him, first in God, and then in Javier, and in the belief that their love can carry them through.
I really loved this book and how it explores the messy, complicated nature of people. It doesn’t shy away from showing morally gray characters, and it made for a super enjoyable reading experience. For me, it was a very promising introduction to Isabel Lucero’s writing, one that has me excited to read more from her in the future.
"Mi amor. I will always come back to you" "Come back to me" "I finally have someone to comeback to"
Sins of the Father by Isabel Lucero I love when a character uses a Spanish pet name, instant melt!! And this book? It did not go where I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised in the best way. A father turned mafia boss? YES. Watching Carlo step back into the world his father once pushed him out of was so fun and so satisfying. What’s meant for you will always find you, and that couldn’t be truer for Carlo.
This was my second book by Isabel, and just like the first, she isn’t afraid to push creative boundaries while still staying respectful. This story wasn’t about the church, it was about Carlo, a man who happened to be part of the church. That’s what pulled me in and made me fall for these characters so quickly.
My heart absolutely melted for him. Being ordained is beautiful, if it’s what you truly want. So when Carlo admits he felt like a hypocrite preaching the word of God, and you learn why, it’s heartbreaking. Growing up surrounded by violence, believing he would one day take his father’s place, only to be cast out for finding his voice and refusing to hide who he was? Of course their relationship would be strained. And being pushed into ministry not out of calling, but out of pressure? That hit hard.
So when Carlo meets Javier through a confessional lattice, it made complete sense why he was instantly drawn to him. Both men believed they’d have to hide their true selves, because in their world, loving the wrong person could literally cost you your life. Their fear, their longing, and the way they slowly leaned on each other for support, ugh, beautiful.
What I truly appreciated was that Isabel didn’t turn Carlo’s father into a one note villain. The dynamic was messy, complicated, and real.
And the suspense? The growth? The love? The SPICE?? Because oh my god, the scourge scene… HOT. That scene set the tone so perfectly for all the tension they’d been holding back.
I loved watching these two find their way to each other, and I’m so happy they found their HEA. Carlo finally found a place where he could truly be himself, with Javier by his side. Such a fantastic read!
I had no idea this book was going to turn into what it was. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the story. This is more than a romance between a priest and a murderer, it’s also about the lengths a father will go to protect his son and the workings of the mafia.
Carlo and his dad had a complicated relationship. Carlo always thought his dad had been non accepting of his sexual orientation and forced him into priesthood because he was ashamed. That was furtherest from the truth and as we progressed more into the story Carlo found out why his dad did what he did.
Javier and Carlo meeting during a confessional was interesting and so was how their relationship developed. They found each other coincidentally and in the end couldn’t be apart from one another. I loved how sweet they were together and how they’d do anything to protect each other. We got to see Javier’s softer side and Carlo’s darker side.
This was a great spin on a mafia and religious romance.
- Priest X murderer - Mafia - Estranged from father - Celibate - Hidden identity - Life in danger
This story has a lot of mystery and intrigue. Early on I thought I knew where this was going and that I figured the plot out lol. I was wrong lol. It's always nice when the author surprises you and keeps you on your toes.
I think this is a book you should just go on blind and trust the process.
“We’re opposites. Good and evil. Light and dark. Order and chaos.”
Both men are true opposites. Carlo, a celibate Priest since 19 hiding the fact he is gay. Javi is a man who lives by his own set of darker rules but has begun to question some things.
These two men had so many layers to them. Both conflicted in their roles in life but feel stuck.
Early we know there is more to the plot. Especially with some side characters like Carlo’s dad and his Pseudo uncle Johnny.
As the story develops Javi and Carlo begin this should we shouldn't, we vibe. They have incredible chemistry.
These two unlikely men begin to trust one another forming a bond.
I think Carlo being in Javis presence forces him to look at his life and see if this is what he truly wants.
Similar to Javi. He was faced with wanting more and finally having a reason to live and someone who he could possibly come home to.
This story was deeper than I expected. It wasn't just a simple enemies to lovers or a forbidden trope. It felt real and natural.
“Tell me I can have you. Even if it’s only in the dark. Even if we remain a secret. Even if it’s short-lived. Tell me,” he pleads, sweat shining on his forehead. “Javi,” he groans.”
We saw these men face serious challenges and be forced to decide who to trust and decide whether they had the courage to choose certain paths or not.
I cried at parts. I cried with and for them.
This was incredibly unique and very much not just a simple mafia mm romance. This has layers, depth of emotion, and real plot, it was so well written.
It's so much more than just a spicy book.
I really think you should read it.
These men will surprise you, that's for sure. Fantastic book
Carlo and Javier's love is forbidden, Carlo is a priest and Javier is a Mafia enforcer, working for Carlo's dad. Carlo was forced to step away from the family when his crime boss dad found out that he liked men, making him go into priesthood. Javier and Carlo meet by chance and their chemistry is electric. When they find out the truth about each other, it throws them off a bit. They all work together with Carlo's dad to help bring down a rat within the family. Lots of action and loss. Carlo needs to decide where his loyalties lie, with family or the church.
This story made no sense. Religion and mafia were thrown in for the sake of aesthetics so the MCs could have “kinky” sex.
Carlo remained a priest for like 30% of the book and then only when the spicy scenes required him to. I’m not religious and I don’t mind taboo topics or characters, but here religion and Carlo’s beliefs were used so hollowly and illogically I couldn’t help feeling the blasphemy. He was presented as forced to become a priest but actually religious himself, he even struggled a tiny bit for a few seconds there, but then he had sex wearing his cassock and saying blasphemous things during it like it was nothing?? Ok…
Then Javier, that character who went from mysterious hitman who doesn’t want redemption to sexy ‘you don’t wanna see me jealous’ to robot butler (who lowkey liked his boss), that Javier serves for nothing except that a ‘romance’ needs at least two people.
The story started off pretty good. was a surprise, and the secrets kept me guessing what’d happen next, which I love. I thought “of course this won’t be a flat priest x mafioso book, this is Dysfunctional’s mom we’re talking about”. So naive. We meet all the capos and the consigliere and then we never speak to them again.
You want only the aesthetics? That’s fine by me, but then don’t sell me a plot that has mafia without politics, religion without spiritual stakes or selective homophobia. For a moment the author even gave me hope made me believe this was also an incest story, but if the three main topics weren’t handled well, another delicate topic like that was out of the question.
Ok, it sounds like I hated this book, but really I loved the first 30-ish % (when Carlo was a priest). Then it wasn’t so bad, it was more the disappointment I felt cause the beginning promised a deep story when the rest was just a fine one.
4⭐️ Mafia danger, priestly vows, and chemistry that could burn a church down. I shouldn’t have loved it this much…but here we are. Absolutely loved every sinful page. My Catholic guilt and I will be in confession later. Send prayers. 😂🙏
**I received a complimentary, advanced copy of this book from The Author Agency and this is my voluntary, honest review.**
Carlo and Javi were deliciously dirty, but fought hard on both sides to keep what they have because they're so obsessed with each other. Carlo has been battling years of internal guilt for having his depraved feelings about wanting to be with men and Javi was the best man to help him see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review
Bit disappointing. It started out so good, but turned out to be a simple mafia book instead. He could've been a teacher instead as it didn't really add to the story for him to be a priest. Not much internal struggle with his beliefs or anything. Also so many weird sentences and spelling errors.
Forgive me Daddy, for I have been a bad girl, and I definitely need Father Carlo to punish me. Sins of the Father was so hot! To be fair, I have a major priest schmink, so I was likely gonna love this book anyway. However, this author took the story to another level by adding a suspenseful and exciting mafia plot along with the forbidden romance.
Carlo’s dad is the head of a crime family. When he found out his son was gay, he “encouraged” him into the priesthood. He’s been living under the radar until Javier ends up in his confessional booth. Carlo has never really reconciled his sexuality or how that fits into his religious beliefs. Javier couldn’t be more opposite. He is blunt, crass, and so tempting to Carlo.
This author writes some of my favorite spicy scenes, and this book was smoking hot! I honestly can’t even choose a favorite spicy scene, but I really love the combination of spice & self flagellation. Carlo just wanted Javier so much, but the guilt. It just builds so much forbidden tension. When they finally got together physically, they were absolutely ravenous for each other.
I loved this book so much, and I can’t wait to see what this author decides to write next!
🙏☠️If I don't make it to Heaven, I'm going to enjoy the heaven I have on earth here with him✝️🩸
"If I tell you everything right now, you'll never see me again. I won't come back." "Will you continue to sin?" "Yes." "Then you'll need to come back." "Sounds like you want me to be a sinner, Father."
"You want me. You're aware of what I've done and you still want me." "No." "I think I found something we have in common. We're both liars."
"We're opposites. Good and evil. Light and dark. Order and chaos."
"You got me on my knees, Father. Should I make a confession? I'm about to ruin your life."
"There's no heaven waiting for you." "As long as you're waiting for me, there is."
"Here's my confession. I might be obsessed with you. And if what we do is sin, I never want to stop sinning. I don't want to be saved. I don't want to seek forgiveness for what I feel when I'm inside you."
"Is there anything else you'd like to confess?" "I've never felt closer to Heaven than when I'm with you."
"He's looking at me like I'm a challenge that he's already accepted. Dear God, give me the strength."
Isabel hit it out of the park with this story. Wow! I know I say that about all her stories, but this one is a close favorite. This had some amazing troupes like priest/mafia hitman, forced proximity, forbidden romance, opposites attract, and secret identity. I love me a good mafia story arc and this author did this one justice. The plot kept me engaged through the entire book. Add in a priest, kinky spice, and a mafia hitman obsessed with said priest 🥵🥵.
This story follows Carlo and Javier. Carlo is a priest and has a past he has been hiding from. He meets a stranger who comes in for confession. This stranger ends up being Javier. Javier becomes obsessed with Carlo and keeps coming back to "confess". Carlo is battling his inner demons as he is attracted to Javier but can't act on anything. His morals and beliefs start to change and he questions a lot. His past starts to catch up to him. Secrets from both men start to unravel on who everyone really is. Will Carlo leave his beliefs behind and step up and be who he was destined to be? Can he let Javier fully into his life without guilt or regret? Will this forbidden love end in bloodshed?
I loved everything about this couple! The forbidden, taboo aspect was hot af. I was here for the kinky spice 🔥🔥🔥🔥. The chemistry and tension between these two were chef's kiss 🥵🥵. Javier and his dirty mouth had me 😏💦🤭. I feel like these two brought the best out in each other. While they're both opposites. One is light and one is dark. I feel Carlo brought light to Javier and Javier brought out Carlo's dark nature. They seemed like yin and yang to me. I loved how loyal and protective Javier was with Carlo and his father 🥹🥹. I loved how Carlo stepped into his new role like a bad ass boss 😎. My heart hurt for Cortez and the letter Carlo found 😭😭. I really hope we get more stories of these two. There is so much more that can happen. I highly recommend this book! 😈🔪🩸🙏✝️☠️
"You like being mine?" "Yes." "Good. Is there anything else you'd like to confess?" "I've never felt closer to heaven than when I'm with you."
This book was a wild ride! I had a hard time rating it in the end but decided to settle on 3 stars since I had some pros and cons.
Pros: - Javier - The smut was smutting - I loved all the mafia action - Murdering homophobes
Cons: - This was not nearly as dark as I thought it would be... besides the scenes of mafia shootouts the characters were so soft to one another which is Great but I just anticipated this to be a dark romance and in reality I wouldn't call it dark at all - The chemistry between our MCs was odd, I loved how protective they were of one another but I feel like the way they met was awkward and ooc for Javi and the author simply needed a way for a priest and a mafia man to meet. There wasn't any buildup to their relationship or any real connection between them that I felt that deeply. - Javi's relationship with Cortez honestly gave me a minor ick. I don't like how he was closer with Carlo's dad than he was, if I were Carlo I couldn't let that go lol - If I'm honest I wish this wasn't a priest x mafia story because Carlo being a priest really just felt like an additive to make the smut more taboo but within a few chapters Carlo was already on sabbatical and never felt any religious guilt or conflict (not that he Should but my religiously traumatized ass do be loving the angst of it all), sometimes the author would throw in Javi calling Carlo a priest or they would use the scourge but I think I would have liked this a lot better if they had either fleshed out the priest aspect more of got rid of the trope completely
Now I know that was a lot of commentary on the con side But I really did have a fun time with this book and I think it will hit harder for others than it did for me!!!
"If what we do is a sin, I never want to stop sinning. I don't want to be saved. I don't want to seek forgiveness for what I feel when I'm inside you."

It’s been a while since I’ve read an Isabel Lucero book, and I have to admit, the blurb for this one grabbed my attention! I didn’t find this book overly dark, true to the author’s promise, but the taboo and forbidden elements made it sinful in the best way possible. Carlo and Javier had a very interesting story, with lots of twists, turns, and everything working against them. Definitely review the content warnings, as there are religious elements in this book that might not be for everyone.
I did find that this book got off to a bit of a slow start, but the short chapters and storytelling helped keep my attention and really get into things. Some of the twists and turns were predictable, but I think the author presented them in a way that keeps the reader interested. I do wish we could’ve gotten to know Javier a little bit better. The spice in this book was absolutely Kindle-melting, as I’ve come to expect from Lucero and I couldn’t get enough! I loved the bond the two main characters formed, despite the adversity working against them. Overall, this was a good read and I did enjoy it! You’ll definitely find yourself rooting for our main characters.
I received an advanced review copy of this book from The Author Agency and am voluntarily leaving a review.
"I've met alot of people, Father. Some good, most bad, all of them sinners."
WOW! When I tell you I DEVOURED this book. It's an understatement. I was hooked from the first chapter. I saw this book advertised a few months back and literally hunted down this ARC 🖤
Opposites. Good and evil. Light and dark. Order and chaos.
✝️ Giancarlo, aka Father Carlo, is a priest whose thrust into the life of the cloth by his mafia boss father. His religious role was not chosen, but forced upon him to help protect him while concealing his sexuality. Due to this- Carlo always feels torn in his role as a celibate priest, suppressing his natural desires. And its not until a certain someone walks into his confessional booth that the world as he knows it, is turned upside down.
💀 Enter Javier, aka Javi, a mafia hitman- a tall drink of water, tatted from head to toe, and a man who never leaves the house unstrapped. Javi comes to "confess his sins" yet, he doesn't do much confessing. Instead, he taunts Carlo, gets him to succumb to his desires, and leads him into a life that Carlo was never quite sure he was ready to accept. Javier is deathly loyal, especially to his, "Carino." I LOVED Javi so much, hes hilarious and tender on the inside but with a terrifying exterior 🥵
Will Carlo be able to overcome his life of piety and finally accept who he truly is?

Y’all. Know. I. Love. Mafia. Romances. A hitman and a priest trope is all I needed to read to get me invested in Isabel Lucero’s latest book. I loved every single second of it. This forbidden romance is exquisitely paced and full of suspense.
Carlo and Javier are captivating in this story. I was riveted from the very beginning until the final page of the book. I love that we get multiple chapters from each MC’s point of view. The dual epilogues are a treat as well. I love that Lucero gives us two characters on opposite ends of the morale spectrum…or so it seems. Carlo’s entering the priesthood is heavily influenced by his father. Javier works for the Italian mafia, despite not being Italian himself. Both men seek answers to questions they wrestle with internally.
The connection between Carlo and Javier is visceral and palpable. Their chemistry is off the charts. This book is intense and the devotion that develops between the MCs is astounding. I really enjoyed the progression of Carlo and Javier’s journey towards love and happiness.
Side note: There are some dark elements in this book, so be sure to check out the content warnings, just in case.
This is an opposites attract forbidden romance, featuring Carlo and Javier, and is a standalone book.
Carlo is a conflicted priest drawn to Javier, a brash and dangerous man whose confessions awaken desires and darkness Carlo has long suppressed. As secrets from Carlo’s past resurface, he’s forced to walk a razor-thin line between morality and survival, even as he’s pulled deeper into Javier’s sinful world.
This story is dark, intimate, and absolutely addictive. From the first confessional scene, the tension between Carlo and Javier is cheeky and flirty, and the chemistry feels both forbidden and inevitable.
The slow unraveling of Carlo’s restraint, the revelations from his past, and the way their lives start to tangle, I couldn’t look away and I was super happy when Javier blurred the lines.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone book MM mafia romance Mystery / suspense Opposites attract Priest x Hitman Confessional Self flagellation Forbidden Forced proximity Only one cabin Spicy times & dirty talk Hierophilia kink Mirror s*x S*x toys Calls him Carino Obsessive / Possessive Hurt / Comfort Mystery / suspense HEA
This was a great read. It’s a bit tricky to review though, without giving away spoilers. That’s why I’ll keep it short.
Priest Carlo Gallini has a man in his confessional booth. He stirs up feelings Carlo buried deep deep down. The man has a filthy mouth, he’s not really confessing but it shines through that he has blood on his hands. With pauses the man visits the booth more times, Carlo is so intrigued by him. And… It’s mutual. Let’s just conclude that the visits don’t stop at the church. The attraction is strong. The man finds Carlo for help when he’s wounded, and Carlo even visits him in jail, as a Father.
Gahhh, I wish I could tell you more but I won’t. The circumstances are quite complicated. Carlo is torn between his religion, his beliefs, and his earthly values and feelings. And it’s getting even more challenging!
Because one fact you need to know: Carlo’s father is the boss of the Esposito crime family.
So far this sums up the first half of this story. The second half was even more eventful, absolutely worth reading.
I love this narrative, it has a rich story, solidly written, engaging, compelling, and captivating. The characters were strong and consistently crafted. The sexy hot af parts were appetizing. Altogether an enjoyable experience! . . . . . . I received an arc
I didn’t think I would ever get two of my most favorite tropes delivered so beautifully. A priest and a mafia hitman? Yes, please!
I have loved Isabel’s work since I stumbled upon her South River University series and have loved every book there after. And as much as I loved those books, this one is now at the top of my favorites!
Carlo is the son of the Gallo Don and to make sure he’s kept safe, his father forced him into priesthood. Being gay in the mafia isn’t exactly something you want the world to know and Carlo’s dad did what he thought was the right thing.
Javier is the Don’s most trusted man. And as fate would have it, he enters Carlo’s church looking for something he himself doesn’t know. But something about the priest calls to him when he’s in his presence.
The two begin a dangerous game that can make them both burn in hell but they couldn’t care less. Javier is temptation personified and Carlo knows it. Yet he can’t stay away from him.
When things get tough with the other mafia families, Carlo has to decide what he wants his life to be. He needs to choose between following his heart or his duty as a priest.
I never thought this book would be so hot but holy smokes! This story was hotter than the pits of hell. Javier and Carlo are pure fire! The way they take care of each other and would burn the world down for one another just made me swoon.
Isabel outdid herself with this story. Make sure to read the TWs and CWs. Especially if you’re too religious and take offense easily.
