A paperwork mix-up at the shelter means I’m now co-parenting a golden retriever with a complete stranger. What could possibly go wrong?
Gemma At forty-two, I finally have my life figured out. Career on track, finances sorted, and ready to adopt the golden retriever I’ve been dreaming about for years.
What I didn’t count on? Beau Sullivan—single dad, annoyingly charming, and the man now claiming my dog thanks to a paperwork mix-up.
So here I am, sharing custody with a stranger who thinks my color-coded schedules are ‘excessive’ and wants to rename Honey something ridiculous like Ranger.
Beau Post-divorce, I have three simple focus on my kid, keep life uncomplicated, and definitely don’t fall for anyone with a filing system.
Then Gemma walks into my life with her perfectly organized world and tries to claim my dog. She’s got spreadsheets for everything and strong opinions about feeding schedules and dog leashes.
I should run. Far and fast. Instead, I’m starting to think that letting her reorganize my entire world might be the best mistake I ever made.
After a paperwork mix up at the shelter, Gemma is faced with the reality of co-parenting a sweet golden retriever with a complete stranger. Beau and Gemma couldn’t be anymore different, so sharing custody until the paperwork is fixed isn’t ideal. However, time together is just what these two needed.
I thought this was such a cute novella. From the way these two met to how they decide to handle sharing the dog is adorable. Sophie does a great job developing feelings between the two without it feeling rushed. I’m sure that’s hard to do when writing a novella but each interaction felt authentic. The dynamic between Beau and his daughter was a sweet touch to the story, especially during the epilogue!
What a cute story this was! As a romance reader, one of my very favorite things is seeing all the clever ways that authors come up with to throw a couple together... and this one was definitely fun and unique! A paperwork mix-up that leads to two strangers co-parenting a golden retriever? What could be more fun- or potentially disastrous- than that? Gemma and Beau had such a great dynamic between them. At the start there is that bit of a rivalry, but it's quickly replaced by a great teamwork that I couldn't help but enjoy between them. These two just fit so perfectly together! This was a very quick read, easily read in just a sitting or two, but one that had me smiling from start to finish. If you love a good single dad romance and furry side characters, this is one you won't want to miss!
Fetching Mr. Right is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is part of the Fur-Ever After series. This is a multi-author series with each book being able to be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun short read! It was nice to read a story that didn’t take forever for the couple to realize their feelings. It’s a great read if you need a break from any heavy books you’ve been reading. Definitely recommend this one!
I love books that can be enjoyed in one sitting, so I was excited to read Sophie-Leigh Robbin’s latest release Fetching Mr. Right. The story was adorable and gave me all the feels. It was the perfect escape.
The story focuses on Gemma as she heads to the animal shelter to pick up Honey, the golden retriever, she is adopting. She is so excited for her life with Honey to begin. Unfortunately, a mix-up at the shelter means that Gemma can’t take Honey home because Beau, a single dad, also adopted Honey for his daughter. The story follows Gemma and Beau as they manage joint custody of Honey.
Things to love: -older, fabulous FMC -single dad MMC -adorable dog -tween daughter -small town -hilarious side characters -banter, chemistry, and swoony moments
I loved watching Gemma and Beau fall for each other from the first moment they met. Each moment between them packed a punch with so much swoon and heart. Honey was adorable. It was fun to see Honey work her magic on Gemma and Beau.
This book was such a delight. It is part of the Fur-Ever After multi-author series
Thank you to the author for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was such a fun, feel-good romcom that hooked me right away. The story kicks off with a hilarious shelter paperwork mix-up that leaves Gemma and Beau unexpectedly co-parenting the same golden retriever, Honey—and from there, the chaos (and chemistry) only gets better. Gemma’s perfectly organized, color-coded life clashes beautifully with Beau’s laid-back single-dad energy, and watching their worlds collide is both charming and genuinely funny.
As a golden retriever owner myself, I loved how the dog is a fun, lovable sidekick who made it easy to sink into the cozy world of Maplewood Springs. The chemistry between Gemma and Beau felt natural and well developed, balancing sweet romantic tension with playful banter. Overall, it’s a warm, appealing small-town romance that delivers humor, heart, and plenty of adorable dog moments—a perfect pick if you’re in the mood for something light, sweet, and easy to fall into.

MC: Gemma and Beau Sullivan with Emily and Honey/Ranger, First person dual POV 5/5 stars
Gemma and Beau are both divorced and are now at a point post-divorce where they are ready to adopt a dog. Gemma wants a dog to stave off loneliness, Beau wants a dog for his daughter Emily who always wanted one but couldn't have one since his ex-wife (her mother) did not want a dog. They both have their hearts set on a golden retriever named Bella (Honey to Gemma and Ranger to Beau). As their co-parenting relationship develops their personal relationship develops alongside it. While they are complete opposites, they somehow mesh well together and start seeing not their differences but their compatibility and how they complete each other. This is a sweet story. You see the relationship between Gemma and Beau, Beau and his daughter Emily, and all of their relationships with Honey/Ranger.

Fetching Mr. Right by Sophie-Leigh Robbins is book two in the Fur-Ever After series. This series is perfect for the holiday. I loved this one; it was a quick read that had me smiling and laughing. This one has a golden retriever in it. I would love to have a golden retriever some day. They seem like the happiest of dogs. This Golden Retriever is being adopted but there was a glitch in the system and so Gemma and Beau have to share custody of this cutie. The story touches on starting over after divorce and moving on. It’s not sad as the characters have been divorced for a bit but they are discovering more about themselves and moving on with their lives. I loved this one and couldn’t put it down. You’ve got a single dad with a preteen, a cute dog, and some fun co-parenting moments. Even though this was a novella I felt like this was the perfect slow burn. Also if you’ve read “Touchdown Under The Mistletoe” you have already met Beau. Go grab your copy today,

A very entertaining story of a computer glitch at a dog shelter causing two people to have approval to adopt the same dog. Gemma is a spread-sheet organised person and Beau has a pre-teen daughter and both want the same dog. Throw in a third applicant and their HEA kicks off in this must-read.

This was a cute romcom with a sweet meet cute. It is a stress free, light, quick, clean read. I felt that this story did lack character development and a more developed plot would’ve been preferred. Thank you to Booksprout for my complimentary early access ebook. I enjoyed it and I would recommend it to others.
Really cute short story. Of course Honey/Ranger is the star of the book. Emma and Beau have to co-parent the dog since neither wants to relinquish their claim. Enjoyable interaction between Emma and Beau. Fun story.

What a lighthearted and fun read! Gemma and Beau are an adorable couple. I loved they way this sweet, clever love story was written. A wonderfully entertaining book and a great addition to this pet lovers series.
I love a novella for a quick pick me up. Sophie Leigh Robbin’s is a great author for these. I enjoyed seeing Riley’s brother’s story pan out from seeing part of it in Touchdown Under the Mistletoe. I would recommend.
It's such a fun story of Beau and daughter Emily and Gemma and Bella/Honey/Ranger in the middle of it all. It's a sweet story of opposites who end up on the same side with a very happy ending.
This cute story about two people who get to know each other over an adoption at the dog kennel was very cute. I enjoyed the way that they complimented each other as well as the way that they were different from one another
