*Reread review, 6 years later (2025)*
Whenever, I do a reread of an old favorite, I always get nervous. What if it doesn't hold up? I hate to tarnish the image of a book in my mind, but I have an excellent history of Keira Andrews books standing the test of time, so I was confident. Plus, I had a hot little review copy of Free Wind in my hands, so I knew I had to read this one to refresh my memory.
I'm pleased to report that Flash Rip blew me away... again.
Just a lovely story with the right amount of emotions and light kinky goodness. Another 5-stars from me, and adding to my 2025 favorites list.

I'm a total Keira Andrews fan-girl, so I was hoping, hoping to love Flash Rip... and I did. So much.
One of my favorite books of 2018 was Honeymoon for One, so it seems as though Keira Andrews writing books set in Australia is like my own personal brand of crack. Heather-crack! I couldn't put this book down, and stayed up until 3 am to finish.
What do you need to know? Well, there is a power-dynamic here that I loved, something not quite dom/sub but close to it. Plus, we get the younger, smaller one in the dominant roll, and MY BODY WAS HERE FOR IT.
There is also an age gap. Not a huge one, but it's enough for those who enjoy a little May/December happening in their romance.
We also have an extremely closeted MC with horrible internalized homophobia, and, to be honest, that may be off-putting for some readers. If I have to pinpoint anything that may divide opinions about this story, that would be it. However, I felt for Liam, and I really understood where he was coming from.
It took a little while for me to warm up to this story, but once I was in it, I was really, really in it. I loved the two MCs together, and I felt like the story just got better and better over time.
With Aussie men, a hard-fought romance, an emotional coming out journey, and dirty talk, Flash Rip was exactly what I wanted it to be and more. Keira Andrews has another winner on her hands.

It took me a few chapters to really get into the rhythm of this story. There's a lot of Aussie surfing talk that went over my head at first, but it didn't take me long to become fully engrossed in Australian lifeguard culture in general and the story of Cody and Liam specifically.
Liam is a former AFL footie star and a veteran lifeguard. Cody is a new trainee, just learning the ropes.
Liam's parents are bigots. His dad throws around homophobic slurs like candy and has a shrine dedicated to Liam's former athletic glory. Liam is so terrified of being outed, he dares to hook up only overseas. Never mind that a former hookup left him ashamed of his more submissive desires.
Cody comes from a family of academics, but all he's ever wanted was to be in the surf and sun. He takes his new lifeguard role seriously and is a quick learner. Cody is smitten with Liam almost instantly, but doesn't dare dream that Liam could return his feelings.
Cody and Liam's clandestine hookups are insanely hot! Liam loves it when Cody takes charge, and Cody teaches Liam you're not less of a man if you like to submit. Even though the sex is on the kinky side, the tenderness is what really made the scenes so damn sexy.
I loved the camaraderie between the lifeguards and their acceptance of Cody when Cody first comes out by casually referring to his ex-boyfriend. I also liked the scenes where the men rescue people from drowning (fans of Keira Andrews will immediately spot a cameo appearance by one of my favorite couples!).
All the secondary characters are well developed, including Charlene the dog. Liam's fear of coming out, as well as his parents' reaction, are realistic. There is some mild relationship drama that leads to a sunny HEA for the men.
I definitely recommend this one! Keira Andrews never disappoints.

So okay, I did the same thing again 🙈
This one is leaving Audible Plus, so my FOMO drove me to pick it up asap, and I think I’m officially a Keira Andrews fangirlie now?
Phew, this was exhilarating 😳. All those rescues had me at the edge of my seat, heart pounding, and maybe I shouldn’t have read this right before going on holiday because now that I know what can happen in the ocean, I might not even dip a toe in 😅 (also, do not read the Wikipedia entry for bluebottles. New fear unlocked. Those things are alien creatures and you cannot convince me otherwise 😱).
Aaaanyway, set against the gorgeous Australian coastline - sun, surf, salt, and endless waves - we follow Cody, the young, out-and-proud new recruit trying to prove himself on the lifeguard team, and Liam, the older, seasoned guard and former AFL footie star who’s admired for his skill and leadership but secretly closeted, weighed down by years of shame and terrified that if the world finds out, everything he’s built will collapse.
Liam’s POV was heartbreaking. His desperation and loneliness were so palpable, and the way his internalised homophobia petrified him - yet he was still so drawn to Cody he couldn’t resist - just gutted me. To finally see him let go, be vulnerable, and revel in their connection was so beautiful.
But fair warning: his internalised homophobia is A LOT. There’s heaps of self-hate, shame, disgust, paranoia, pushing Cody away in public and keeping him a secret for a loong time. You really have to trust Keira Andrews to take him on the journey - and she does, promise, though it’s long and painful for everyone involved. (And honestly, Cody deserves sainthood for his patience. I had to remind myself sometimes what he saw in Liam, wow).
What I loved in their sexual relationship, was that the younger, leaner, smaller guy was the top, and the big, muscly older guy a needy bottom who just melted at his touch. Their sub/dom dynamic was scorching hot (like, scorching 🔥), but also tender and the perfect fit for them as characters. And I adored their open, unfiltered communication about sex - the sexy and especially the unsexy parts alike.
Their HEA was very much hard-earned but beautiful. For a long time I wasn’t sure Liam could overcome his shame in a realistic way, especially when he was still struggling heavily at the 90% mark. But the epilogue convinced me - it was moving and satisfying and included a resolution with his parents that wasn’t tied up in a fake neat bow but felt painfully, realistically true.
I’m really excited to dive into the arc of book 2 now, wish me luck I’m not going to encounter even more deadly, scary sea creatures, for the sake of my beach holiday lol 😳
PS: LOVED the Clay and Ethan cameo, like.. SO MUCH! I absolutely squealed 😍

This was seriously an amazing story!
Sure, we all get tired of closeted characters who keep refusing to come out, finding all sorts of excuses why it's impossible to be open about it.
But Liam was so deliciously torn and I admit, his life situation was definitely interesting.
Liam Fox was an AFL star (which I believe is soccer?) in his younger days. But then he ruined his knee and his career was over - much to the dismay of his ultra-conservative father who kept pushing him to be the best.
Now, in his mid-30s, some 10 years after his professional sports career, Liam works as a lifeguard on a famous beach and he still often finds himself shaking hands and posing for pics with fans who remember his glory days.
He's scared to death of anyone finding out that he isn't the macho womanizer that people believe him to be. His muscled, tan beach body and his Liam Hemsworth type of looks don't correlate with his secret desire to be dominated by another guy. Sadly, his sex life consists of only occasional hook ups overseas, too afraid anyone in Australia would still recognize his face. And even then he doesn't dare ask for what he truly wants in bed.
Until his team takes on a new trainee. Cody is 20 years old, confident and independent. He works his ass off to be accepted by the hardened lifeguards at Barkininy Beach. Liam's fleeting interest in the younger man soars when he realizes that Cody is gay and out and proud.
It doesn't take long for both men to get to know each other intimately, but Liam's stubborn refusal to ever let anyone know about his sexuality puts a huge strain on his affair with Cody, especially once feelings get involved.
This is a delicious coming out story. Liam is incredibly torn and scared of losing his family's acceptance.
Thank god, in romance novels, the closeted guys usually come around. I don't want to think about such a constellation in real life. I'm afraid a guy like Liam would have chosen a different path there, contrary to what would have been sane and wise.
This is definitely a beautiful story taking place in the same universe as 'Honeymoon for One', and Ethan and Clay even have a short cameo here, which is just insanely cool.
I totally recommend this story, which was my beach read 2021 ;-)

Time of death 52%... 🤧🤧🥲
I write this with a heavy heart, *gets dramatic again*, Keira is an author that has written a lot of great/awesome books in my opinion, so not liking this was a shock.
I'm gonna be quick with this:
- It dragged at the begging.
- The thirst levels made me uncomfortable sometimes.
- Liam's feelings were all over the place and the writing felt like it too when I was in his pov.
- Cody was not a very interesting character to be totally frank, he was out and proud and liked being in charge in bed, but he was a kid other times, so yeah didn't do nothing for me.
- The sex was hot so I pushed through because of it.
- The sex became the story and I just wasn't interested.
This had an amazing idea but it didn't grab me, I was bored, looking at the percentage and being like: only 30%? Jesus! So yeah, I stopped.
Sorry Keira, love u anyways! 🥲💜💙🧡

Keira Andrews skillfully navigates her way through a complex closet case romance set in the twin macho worlds of Australia's AFL and Lifeguards.
Liam is a former AFL star who could have been one of the greats when injury forced him into retirement after four years at the age of just 24.
He's been a Lifeguard for ten years and he's hiding a deep secret which is severely affected when 20-year-old Cody joins his team as a trainee.
After an incident with an ex, Cody's also out and accepted by the rest of the squad and it puts Liam in fear of his own outing.
I thought the way Keira worked through the incredibly deep and painful internalised homophobia Liam suffers from was excellent.
It never becomes over self-flagellant, it's not turned into a masochistic streak of internal monologues but instead, it presents a forbidding representation of how damaging toxic masculinity can be.
Liam also hides another secret which he thinks makes him less of a man and I just wanted to hug him so hard as this is revealed.
And while everything takes place in a relatively short time, it never feels rushed or too instant love. The connection between them is compelling and the sexual trust is volcanic.
Keira has a serious talent for this type of relationship and here I think she's outdone herself. As Liam learns that submitting doesn't make him weak, Cody's dominant side gets an unexpected awakening.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it's a bit of a different take on the age gap, sports romance.
As a PS I loved the brief cameo from Keira's Honeymoon for One couple Ethan and Clay. Totally sweet.

Keira Andrews has the wonderful ability to bring characters to life. And in Flash Rip the setting, not just Australia, but the beach, is another character in this book.
I liked that because Cody is Canadian it allowed Andrews a way to explain Australian colloquialisms in a way that's organic to the story. I loved Cody, I loved the team, I even liked Liam when he wasn't panicking...
My problem with the story is the romantic relationship between Liam and Cody felt unexplored. I honestly don't remember if Liam and Cody have anything other than their job in common. I don't remember any on page dates between them where they talk about their hopes or dreams. I mean, I would have liked at least one deep conversation between Liam and Cody, something other than sex to show that these two are going to go the distance.
I felt like most of the story was lifeguard duty, hot sex, and Liam freaking out, and I don't feel like I got the romantic payoff I needed, even though this has a happy ending.
I just kept thinking even up until the last chapter, "Where is the relationship building in this?"
Regardless, it's a smooth read and I liked the dual POV because it provided insight into Liam's fear, but overall this just didn't give me the romance I craved.

This book is about lifeguards and it is set in Australia, so I obviously loved it. Really loved the beach setting and I need to find more books about lifeguards now.

Love surely makes you blind and horny.
Flash Rip was entertaining, and a very hot story written in third person point of view.
This book is about Liam Fox [32 years old] and Cody Grant [20 years old], both lifeguards at Barking Beach. After developing a strong attraction for each other, they decided to start a physical relationship despite Liam’s reluctance at first. I won’t lie: I mainly chose to read this book because of the dynamic between the characters, which is a younger top with an older bottom. In that regard, I wasn’t at all disappointed!
Liam and Cody’s relationship was interesting from the start. Cody was such a fresh character; he was supportive, confident, and reliable. A true sweetheart. On the other hand, we have Liam who’s closed-off, unsure of himself at times, and extremely insecure about his sexuality. And when I say ‘insecure’, what I mean is: internalized homophobia. Liam was scared to come out, not only because of his reputation – he was an ex-football player, but because of his father who’s not very accepting, if you know what I mean.
Liam’s fears were, in my opinion, well portrayed. It was heartbreaking to see him being so ashamed, and scared about everything regarding his love life, which inevitably affected Cody as well. Honestly, I was very sad for Cody. Liam’s behavior, while understandable, was hard to read, and became frustrating toward the end. Honestly, at some point, I even wondered how Liam would overcome his fear and be proud of himself. And more importantly, how Cody and him would work as a couple. Cody was patient and very understanding with Liam, so much, I felt like Liam didn't deserve Cody.
Keira Andrews’ writing was so easy to read. Each character had his own voice, and it wasn’t that difficult to determine which point of view I was reading.
Additionally, I really enjoyed the spicy scenes. They were extremely well written, and I appreciated how Liam and Cody discovered together what worked for them and the kinks they could enjoy. They were a perfect match. However, I failed to see a true connection between them. For me, their relationship wasn’t developed enough; I had the impression there wasn’t anything else between them, apart from the sex.
Nonetheless, I managed to enjoy myself. The author wrote a very realistic ending for Liam and Cody. While everything isn’t entirely solved, Liam became surer about himself thanks to Cody, his friends and his brother. I appreciated how the author didn’t resolve everything by the end, but instead chose to end things on a hopeful note.

Not sure why it took me so long to read this one.
Definitely a slow build between Cody and Liam. And there was a lot of life guard speak towards the beginning of the book. But I was never bored. I'd say the book is a bit on the long side too.
I'm not a big fan of when one of the MCs is in the closet. And Liam was buried rather deep. He frustrated me at times. But, alas, it worked out in the end.
Really liked the side characters so I hope we get more books related to Barking and the other lifeguards.
Plenty of steam in this one and low drama - both a plus for me.

Still the same as last time, Liam was in the closet longer than he needed to be and Cody was acting more mature than Liam haha
Even with that said I enjoyed this book a lot and especially lifeguard parts of the book!

Loved the lifeguard aspect, there was a lot of action on the beach and it was great to read about!!
The thing that got annoying was how long Liam was staying in the closet, I mean I get it he was famous and didn’t want that publicity…. But my god it went on forever haha Cody for a 20 year old was very mature and I loved that!

Historia de amor con salvavidas... Esperaba algo muy superficial, con 754698679 escenas de sexo y que olvidaría a los 10 minutos. Pero, ha sido una sorpresa muy grata, un libro muy tierno, con un análisis mucho más profundo de los personajes de lo que me esperaba y con las dosis apropiada de romanticismo y angst. La verdad, muy bonito, se me ha hecho cortísimo. Y seamos sinceras, son salvavidas, y uno de ellos antiguo jugador de rugby australiano, madre mía...

First – the title is great!
Not that I had any idea what a flash rip is. For all those other readers out there who are also not savvy in the way of Australian beaches – it is an unexpected, strong current that pulls swimmers away from the beach.
But I loved that it also held some symbolism for the relationship that develops between 20 year-old ‘rookie’ life guard Cody and in the closet 35 year-old Liam.
Tbh, ‘in the closet’doesn’t quite describe how Liam feels about being gay and coming out. Cody describes it at one point as "internalized homophobia”. Basically, Liam hates himself for being gay and sees it as the sure means to ruin his whole life and how people see him. And his fear of coming out is so intense I would call it a full-blown phobia.
I think I can safely say I’ve never seen any character as deeply lost in this super-sized, pitch black, self made closet. His self-denial and self-hatred are of epic proportions!
It was also pretty awful to see that the little experience Liam had with being a gay man has been predominantly negative. As for positive sexual experiences – nope, nothing whatsoever. And it’s utterly heartbreaking to watch him beating himself up for just wanting to be himself. Which of course, he won’t allow.
Until Cody, that is.
Cody is a positive character through and through. I loved his enthusiasm for his job, his kind and patient nature and his joy for life. And he is unapologetically gay. Something Liam can only watch in wonder and awe.
It was touching to see how young experienced Cody lets older, insecure (to put it mildly) Liam explore what he likes sexually. And just to be clear here, they are little bit into power play, touching upon dom/sub territory, but no worries (if that’s not your thing), it’s all very mainstream and easy to read.
The sex is pretty sizzling , which comes down to exactly that element.
Liam’s story of breaking down the walls he has built around himself all his life is painful and slow, and for me that is the best part of the book. I was moved to tears toward the end and it’s been a while since a book made me grab for a tissue.
However, the first 30% are too slow. There is simply too much life-guarding, too much trade jargon and too much pulling people out of the water. As admirable and awesome and wonderful and recommendable as this is. I did skim over some of that stuff.
And, for me, there are too many characters. Apart from the numerous lifeguards, and all their back stories, their nicknames on top of their real ones, we get Cody’s family and Liam’s family and all the people that are getting saved. My head was spinning. Argh.
Still, if you can get through the first third of the book, you will surely enjoy Liam and Cody’s story.

If Keira Andrews writes a thing, Sheri wants to read the thing. It doesn’t really matter what it is but if she fills it with sexy men protecting a gorgeous beach in Australia while trying (unsuccessfully) not to fall in love, this want becomes a need. I needed this book. It bounced into my reading schedule like a bright tennis ball with a golden retriever puppy attached and I couldn’t help but smile. Granted the beginning was a bit overwhelming (Aussie speak plus surfer speak felt like a foreign language at times) but it didn’t take long and I was holding on, waiting, knowing the current was going to pull me under. When it took me down I easily went with it, trusting Andrews to take me wherever she saw fit. Such a beautiful thing when you have faith like that in your go-to authors. I was delighted with the happy ending and already look forward to the next KA book I can dive into. Technically a flash rip happens quickly and without warning and that’s exactly how Liam fell in love with Cody.
Here, come on! Let me tell you some more…..
What's to like: White sand, blue skies, and glistening bodies…what’s not to like? Seriously though, Andrews is really pushing a trip down south up on my bucket list. I wanna visit, yesterday! Then she really brings it with these guys!
Cody is easy to like. He’s young, determined and ready to snag his dream. All his life the ocean has called to him and he’s finally ready to answer. A summer of training with the best lifeguards down under will prove if he can make it…or break it. He doesn’t need distractions. His eye is firmly on the prize, securing a spot with the team, and nothing else matters. That is until Liam catches his gaze and holds it.
Liam is an enigma. Cody can’t quite figure him out but wants to. You see, Liam did snag his dream but it was mercilessly ripped from him. Protecting the coast was not the future he envisioned but it has become his saving grace. When an injury stole his footie career before it truly began he lost more than the ability to play soccer. He lost his purpose and began to pull the threads of his old life further and further apart. He hates his misfortune, his parents’ homophobia, and his own desires. He spends most of his time in the brightest of places but his life is dark. Until a radiant young man breezes into his space and brings light and hope with him. Gahhhh! This…this takes me to what I loved!
What's to love: Opposites attract is one of my weaknesses. I also absolutely adore it when love blossoms but not strictly between two people. Liam doesn’t really like himself much, let alone love himself. Cody demonstrates the power of either surrounding yourself (inside and out) with love or hate. I despised the fear and anxiety Liam battles on a daily basis. But I loved watching Cody break down his walls one by one. I cursed the hiding and the guilt forced on Liam. But I loved witnessing Liam find his strength in the power of submission in the bedroom. I loved spending time with them at the beach. I loved a…flash from the past rescue. I loved the joy of accepting your true self. I loved how feelings were brought to the limelight and courageously kept there. I loved the balance of sweet and salty, tender and tenacious, and sexy and well, sexy. Guess you could say, I loved it a great deal. I hope you do too.
Beware of: A deeply closeted man with a fortress around his heart. The urge to study up on Aussie slang. And a wild ride that will knock you around before delivering you safely back to the shore.
This book is for: Beach lovers, Aussie lovers, and KA lovers….or anyone else looking for a ripper romance.

I am so obsessed with the younger top trope, and it was executed so well in this story. Every second of this book was so intriguing, I was obsessed with the MCs dynamic and everything else that was going on. It was like reading baywatch but with gay men lmao.
Liam (34) is a senior lifeguard (or something), and Cody (20) is a trainee. Cody listens to Liam as he has more experience in this job, but when they are alone together their roles are reversed, Cody -even though younger and smaller - taking the reins and bossing Liam around, and Liam being submissive, but also shy and reserved. (I freaking love such characters).
But it wasn't just about the spicy scenes. Cody is out and proud while Liam is so trapped inside the closet, dealing with internalized homophobia that he is absolutely terrified to be found out. Cody promises him safety and shows him what it's like to feel confident in his own skin and in what he needs, no matter what anyone thinks.
I felt so bad for Liam and everything he went through and wanted to wrap him up and keep him safe 🥹🥹 And Cody was just the sweetest, so kind and generous, he deserves everything!

Loved it, despite the fact that I found some parts lacking.
I have a difficult relationship with Keira Andrews. I loved some books, others I didn’t. Mostly I thought they’re… ok. 3 star reads.
This one’s the love story between Liam, an 36yo ex-football player, deeply in the closet, looking like a long lost Hemsworth brother, working as a lifeguard at a beach close to Perth. And 20yo out and proud Cody who’s working there as a trainee.
For the first time ever, I had an issue with was the abundance of Australian colloquialisms. As most of those who follow my reviews know, I’m no native speaker, but I never had any issues with reading English books - until now. I had to stop quite a few times to figure out what the people were talking about. Let me give you some examples:
ambo for ambulance/people in the ambulance
pressies for presents
Or to insert some quotes:
The young man had been wearing ridiculously small bathers—practically sluggos, as Liam’s dad would call them.
(…)
Dad was in his usual spot in his deluxe outdoor armchair in the corner by the barbie, complete with footrest, drinking an Emu from the same faded red stubby holder
(…)
Dad still worked as a brickie.
(…)
Greg’s a firey.
I mean… WHAT??? WHY???? I’ve read quite a few books set in Australia, but this was a bit much 😂
The second thing I had an issue with: it’s not clear what Cody and Liam had in common, or why they fell in love with each other. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I loved the unusual dynamics (Liam has a strong submissive side, and Cody is a top with D tendencies). They’re both nice, highly likable guys. They work well together, but other than that? I feel like we’re missing a chunk of their story.
And the last thing that drove me nuts: I listened to the audio. It’s Joel Leslie narrating, and he’s not new to me. We all know he gets quite into the stuff he’s narrating, and he’s acting it out. But I swear to God, wherever he started shouting or screaming in my ear (and people on beaches do tend to shout when they need rescuing) I flinched and almost had a heart attack 😅
Annnnyyyyyway.
After all the whining - why still 4 stars? Because it got me involved, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and about Liam, and it made me cry towards the end. My heart broke for Liam and all the internalised homophobia he had to deal with, and his struggle to come out to himself, to his family and to the world - it felt real, and it hurt.
Honestly. His parents should go fuck themselves. And Francesco (or was it Lorenzo?) too.
Cody was wonderful, so much more mature than his age.
Thinking about it - they maybe they WERE a perfect match after all ❤️

After all the whining - why still 4 stars? Because it got me involved, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and about Liam, and it made me cry towards the end. My heart broke for Liam and all the internalised homophobia he had to deal with, and his struggle to come out to himself, to his family and to the world - it felt real, and it hurt.
Honestly. His parents should go fuck themselves. And Francesco (or was it Lorenzo?) too.
Cody was wonderful, so much more mature than his age.
Thinking about it - they maybe they WERE a perfect match after all ❤️

Absolutely loved this book with the younger Dom/older sub dynamic. Mmm, good stuff. The emotional journey was believable and satisfying. The romance was tender, and the action scenes of lifeguarding remarkably entertaining. I wasn't prepared to enjoy that aspect as much as I did! Sex scenes were off the charts hot! And I absolutely loved the character arc for Liam, who had a lot of history and fears to overcome.

Re-read on 23rd Oct/25
I've decided to re-read this book, because we're finally getting Damo's full story! And I can't wait to read it.
This time around, I'm going to lower the rating a little bit, because there were a few things missing in this story, so I'm giving it a strong 4.25⭐ and will say that this book remains one of my favorites.
"Cody and I could have this."
I simply loved Cody and Liam together, what I wanted was more of that falling in love on-page. They've had an incredible journey in this book and a lot of things happened, but there wasn't enough time to really, deeply fall in love, so I think the declarations of love should've come at the very, very end and we needed a couple of chapters more of Liam and Cody just enjoying the process.
I did read the bonus story that apparently came out this year and it's good, but again, it's them a few years down the line getting engaged, so for me still quite a lot is missing that could've been said.
Even so, the book is really good and I definitely recommend it.

I've had this book for a while, and what a mistake it was not to read it sooner, because this is a very, very good story, so I'm definitely rating it with full 5⭐.
The story follows a closeted gay man as he painfully comes out and experiences the freedom of simply being himself. For the first time, he shares intimacy with someone he likes, someone who understands him, gets him, and, more importantly, fully supports him emotionally.
It was a fantastic read.

When Liam discovers that Cody is gay, he becomes fidgety, restless, and increasingly drawn to him. Eventually, he has the balls to hang out with Cody and to kiss him. The story takes you on an intense journey with Liam, who desperately wants to break free, but feels trapped, who wants to breathe, but can’t.
So when that kiss finally happens, it’s thrilling, I loved every moment of it.
“Wanted to do that since I first saw you. Wanted to climb you and suck you and fuck you.”
Liam's struggle was so well described. I was right there with him, feeling his fears, his worries, and his longing to be free, while knowing he couldn’t. That’s real, enormous pain, because so much was at stake for him. Cody never pushed him, but as they fell in love, he didn’t want Liam to suffer or throw his life away by hiding his true self.
"Cody ached to soothe those sharp, jittery edges, to kiss them away and tell him there was nothing to be afraid of."
When Liam finally came out officially, I loved seeing how his co-workers and his brother reacted, because he just had so much support. Yet, he was still devastated that his parents couldn’t accept him. But he had Cody. He found his true partner in the process, so for me, it was beautiful and the age gap is just right, it's so good. The age gap really, really works here.
"Cody took Liam’s wrist and kissed the pale, soft skin by his pulse point. Liam’s smile turned bashful, and he dropped his head, and God—Cody was falling in love with him. This big, beautiful man with so much shame was filling Cody’s heart the way no one ever had."
In the epilogue they live together and for me, they're just one of the best, most memorable couples. I love them.
I definitely recommend this book.

Well, this was a loooong book.
Not long as in many pages although there's certainly many of those too. It was just a long, long book. So many things happened and maybe 40% were related to the couple. The rest was stuff happening to one of the MC's. While it was interesting in the beginning reading about the lifeguards and their rescue missions it grew boring rather quickly. I found myself skimming these scenes.
So this book is about Liam and Cody. There's a nice little age gap between them, an interesting dom/sub relationship and a whole lot of sex going on. While I enjoyed all of this, I was basically done with Liam from the beginning. His internalized homophobia too much for me to handle. While this is something that's actually happening and it's important to be a support for these people, being in Liam's head got really tiring. And the way he behaved towards Cody for most of the book was everything but okay. It got to the point where I wanted to smack Liam in the head and tell him to just get his shit together. I'm not sure I want to read about these kind of MC's in my MM books but it's certainly good that they exists.

Keira Andrews is an auto-read for me; her ability to switch from genre to genre, historical to contemporary is one of my favorites things about her writing. In Flash Rip, she takes us to Australia and introduces us to Cody and Liam. Cody is 20 and new to the lifeguard team, and Liam is a former AFL player in his mid-thirties. There was a lot to love about Flash Rip, so, some highlights.
-Age gap.
-Slow burn.
-Size difference. It wasn't just the size difference though- it was the sexual exploration that went with it. How Cody helped Liam overcome some of his hangups- taught that it some of the things he enjoys don't make him less of a man.
-Rendezvous. I love hook-ups in romance, and they are equally hot and tender.
-Angst. Bigoted family and Liam's fear of coming out because of them.
-Great cast of secondary characters.
-Action
-A secret cameo ;)
-All tied up with a HEA.
Flash Rip had it all.

Flash Rip is up there with some of my favs from Keira Andrews.
It's a lifeguard romance between trainee Cody and Liam, set on the fictional Australian Barking Beach. Liam's was a famous footballer until a serious knee injury took him out of the game. He still gets recognised, and it's this along with homophobic parents (especially his dad) that has kept him in the closet with a hefty fear of being outed.
I really enjoyed their relationship and the conflicts were well developed, adding a lot of tension to the story. Also, the lifeguarding was really interesting to read about, and the other lifeguards were so fun and made for a great time.

Honestly, this was more than 3 stars, but I never felt the driving need to keep listening to the book. Joel Leslie narrated and he was fantastic!
Maybe it’s all on me (probably—Covid blues), but this book was angstier than I expected and filled with a lot of self hate (Liam) that I wasn’t expecting. Although this was told in dual POV’s, this was Liam’s journey all the way.

A well-written, exciting, angsty and interesting story. The characters, Liam especially, were lovely (sometimes) and complicated, and also sometimes infuriating. I really enjoyed the concept of the entire story, but I must admit I didn’t necessarily understand why the MCs were together beyond sex. I didn’t really see why they would want to be a couple, things they had in common beyond work, etc. The focus of the story is on Liam’s internalized homophobia and shame, so understandably there’s not much in terms of dates and relationship ‘stuff’, but it would’ve been nice to see some glimpses of that at the end. Thankfully, we did get some relationship development eventually where we could actually see the emotional connection between the MCs, not just the sexual one, but it wasn’t all that strong.
The kink makes sense in theory and for the plot, showing Liam’s shame, but it felt a little out of place, like that was the only reason for the kinky dynamic, just to drive that part of the plot, as it fell away eventually. I couldn’t quite get a grip on who Cody was supposed to be. He goes from never showing any signs of domination to being a dom in the bedroom, and he’s 20 but acts older than 34 year old Liam. I liked his character, but some parts didn’t feel like him.
Keira writes so well and I enjoyed all the rescue scenes and interactions with the rest of the lifeguard team a lot. I also might have kicked me feet a little with joy because of the cameo with Ethan and Clay.

This book was reccomendet to me by @Martin and as I am currently very unsatisfied with the books I am reading I gave it a try.
First of all I love it, when characters from other books appear especially when I am not expecting it at all. So imagine my surprise, when suddenly Clay and Ethan from Honeymoon for One appeared.
Liam and Cody make a great couple and I really love Liams development during the story. This book is lovely and for me a 5-Stars-read!

I adore Liam and Cody and all the lifeguards of Barking Beach.
This book served age gap romance between a closeted ex-rugby star now turned lifeguard and an unapologetically out younger man who's always dreamed of becoming one.
I expected heat from this book, but I don't think I was prepared for their tender exploration of BDSM and a lifetime of repressed wants and needs we get to explore with Liam.
They balance each other out so beautifully, and while I've only reread this one cover to cover twice, I have listened to my favorite chapters (not even just the steamy scenes! gasp!) what feels like countless times.
Can't tell you how excited I am that we got a proper Damo book!

The two start a sexual relationship that turns into more. However, Liam is so deep in the closet that he let's the fear of being found out control his life.
I have to be honest I couldn't help but think of Baywatch with all the lifeguard business going on lol. Also, I had to google quite a bit of the slang used. I did know a quite a bit due to reading NR Walker books lol. Overall, a solid read.

I need all the Aussie content in my life, I’m weak AF for it and I also very much like Keira Andrews, so really, this was a no brainer for me.
At first I was a bit annoyed because some of the slang didn’t read super organic, but seriously, what do I know? English is not even my native language lol. I was able to just ignore some of the random dialogues and just go with the vibes and ended up having a good time.
I liked how patient and understanding Cory was, he really saw Liam and helped him understand that what he needed and liked was ok and nothing shameful. Poor Liam of course was battling years of internalized homophobia and a lot of hate for himself. And even though he was very thick headed for a very good part of the book he eventually got himself together and made a stand to live authentically.
As a side note, I’ve never been to Australia but like I seriously cannot understand how people willingly get in the water where there are sharks, that’s next level intrepid.
