Rosenna Bakari PhD, is a published author, educator, and visionary. She is a Professor of Psychology at Des Moines Area Community College and is is featured in the 2007 volume of Who’s Who in America. Her professional publications are include in “The Journal of Negro Education” and “Teaching and Teacher Education” and her unpublished transformative poetry collection boasts over 150 poems.

She founded Talking Trees in 2010 after deciding to live openly as a survivor of incest and childhood sexual abuse. She felt the absence of healing resources for 40 million survivors was her call to impact the world. If she were going to finally heal, she might as well heal with a purpose. Since the creation of Talking Trees she has written, directed and produced a theatrical performance about adult survivors called Talking Trees.

She also established Talking Trees, Inc. as a non-profit tax-exempt organization and created a series of videos for survivors. She also holds an annual one-day conference for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. In 2015 the “Safe Space Day” conference celebrated its 5th year in Iowa.

Dr. Bakari is not new to advocacy work. In 1994 she published her first book, “Self-Love: Developing and Maintaining Self-Esteem for the Black Woman”. Her current work on women issues addresses male dominance. Her contemporary theory of original sin, male-dominance and the influence on rape culture can be found in a series of You Tube videos.

She is also a fitness advocate with a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a two time marathon finisher. She stresses the importance of fitness in healing. She is also a prolific poet that focuses on transformational poetry.
