The Night Hunt is coming for Colton, the fourth of Westpoint Academy’s five Feral Boys. Three others have claimed their chosen, just as he now has to claim his: Eve, at the elite academy on a rarely granted scholarship that immediately makes her a target for hatred and humiliation. Colton wants to hate her too but can’t, and he finds himself falling for her instead. But love has no place in the cutthroat politics of the academy. The all-powerful Board, backed by the funders and the legacy bloodlines, demands absolute fealty and obedience. In order to literally survive the Hunt, Eve has to be claimed, but after all that she’s been put through, can she trust Colton’s promises of safety and vengeance?
I couldn’t get a read on Colton in the previous books. He appeared the most in Bam’s but even then, I wasn’t sure how he felt about anything, even his “brother,” until the massacre proved that the Feral Boys are all ride-or-die. So color me surprised to find out Colton was quite tender underneath all the stalking, violence and threats. He genuinely cared for Eve and protected her the only ways he could, like providing proper footwear for the Hunt (I laughed at his dig at the other guys over that). His love language was definitely actions, from the Hunt footwear to his tender wound care to holding her together when she needed it. For a guy who says he’s no good with words, he sure said some sweet (and hilarious) ones. His speech at the end was everything.
I loved Eve’s strength. No matter how many injustices were visited upon her — that plot twist! — she refused to stop. And when she finally broke, she came back stronger. She put her faith in Colton when every instinct told her to fight instead. She managed every situation with grit, grace or both.
I cannot explain how much I’m loving this series, which sadly ends with the next book. Each couple is so different in the dynamics of their relationships and in how they fit into the plan to destroy the Board, the funders, the legacies, the academy. They will burn it all down or die trying, and I am so excited for the flames.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
