A new mission. A lost ship on the far edge of the galaxy.
After their victory over the Ascendancy and the destruction of the Stellar Engine, Mark Allen is now a Nova Slinger squad leader. It's the middle of the war and he's still wet behind the ears, but he's learning fast.
That goes doubly for his team. Each Slinger has seen their share of combat, and they each have a reason to fight.
Lately, the Ascendancy has been showing signs of movement, trying new tactics and getting more creative---not something the hive mind is known to do.
When a distress call is discovered near the Uncharted Dark, Rylos Squad goes to investigate. When they arrive, they discover a world of giant mushroom trees, untapped psychic energy, and somehow...
A crashed Nova Slinger ship.
And it belongs to the most infamous pilot to ever Clint.
After betraying the Kin, the history books say that Clint was killed at the end of the last war. So how did he end up on this planet, so far out in the middle of nowhere? And where is his body?
With mysteries to unravel, Rylos Squad begins an investigation that will upend everything they know about the Old War and the man responsible for countless deaths.
The story seemed a bit repetitive with a series of very similar problems encountered on this new planet. I was not terribly engaged and the book languished in my Kindle as I very slowly read it. This element of the development of the 1-800-STARSHIP saga might have been better presented in a short version that was the beginning part of a full book. Hoping the next book in the series is better paced.
Well, this book was full of excitement and things I didn't expect to see. Makes me anxious to read the next one. Not wanting to give away any information, I won't write more about the story. I will say it is a fun read and will keep you reading past your bedtime. Enjoy!
