Who was he and what role did he fulfill? What was the significance of his appearance to Abraham? Why was he prophesied in connection with the Messiah? What was the order and rank of his priesthood? How does his priesthood compare to the Levitical priesthood? Was he Shem or some other OT character?
Around the time I was finishing primary school I wrote a letter to the author, David Alsobrook, asking for a new bible (poor kid from Africa etc). He didn't send me a bible but instead sent me a whole lot of his books. This was the first of his books I read.
Short little book but the message was clear - Melchizedek who appeared to Abraham was Jesus himself. At that time Abraham paid a tithe to this Melchizedek and this was before the Law of Moses. it's quite interesting that quite a few christian leaders are talking a lot about this Melchizedek and his encounter with Abraham. As someone who's drawn towards mystery and unexpected revelations I found this book very entertaining.
