not sure if its because there's 6 books in the series before this so there was barely any world building, also did not expect this level of trauma and hurt and injury to be held by both leads and their family before diving in and that really took a hit in terms of the experience. unfortunately, the writing, the plot building, the chemistry between the leads just fell really flat for me this time. it was implied that Matt has been idolising Shay for a while now but that was only somewhat revealed by his father at the end of the novel, i think that it could have so much more impact if it was developed throughout the novel. i also feel that there's too many plot lines happening in such a short novel, there were so many that were left unexplored. what was the family dynamics in Shay's family like as she was successfully battling her demons, where did her teammates go and how did they support her? how did the Nighthawks cope after finding out about the two of them?
