Sunder: A Dark Romance

Rate this book
Sunder (verb): to break apart, to violently split in two.

She had a twin. Her other half. And then she didn't.
They were born together. They did not stay that way.
Half a soul can still walk, talk, breathe. But it is never whole.

Her mother's cruelty carved her small.
Her end came swift and brutal.
Her father's inhumanity starved her spirit,
and his sudden death left her adrift, cast into a world of shadows.

In the ruins of a forsaken church, two figures awaited her—fate, in flesh and blood.
One—a man, fierce, haunted, unyielding—ruled like a shepherd in the dark, gathering the lost to his Fold.
He had watched her long before she arrived, seeing the fracture in her soul.
When he claimed her, it was not with mercy, but with a dark promise of power.

The other—a boy like her, quiet, sharp-eyed, unbreakable—saw her for what she was,
not what she had been made to be.
Between the three of them, bonds formed in secrecy and sin.
In their embrace, she unearthed a love as dangerous as it was intoxicating.
Together, they transcended survival.
They became predators.
And in their realm, justice was cold, unrelenting, and without remorse.

A. M. Kray has delivered a story that will hook you from the start. It's a short read, so plenty packed into such a small package.
I downloaded this last night, and I was planning to read it then. I’m glad I didn’t, because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have slept because this was read start to finish in one sitting. At one stage, I was so immersed in the story that a particular act of violence involving an eye actually made me flinch!

This is definitely a deviation from the prior books I’ve read from this author, and in a way, it makes it so much better for it. I knew from the blurb that it would be dark, but this was so delightfully dark that I just wanted to see how unhinged it could get.

How I felt while reading…
Absolute devastation - as a twin myself, I can just picture the raw devastation that Ivy would feel at the loss of Jameson. And then the unfolding of the horrors that she had to face over the next few years.
I’ve never been truly invested in seriously dark characters. In this case, there are a lot of unalivings, but whoah… these actually had me going… meh… it happens - well deserved, and now, who’s next?

The characters & the story…
Ivy channeled her inner Dexter and became so dark and twisted, and boy, oh, boy was I rooting for her… Add Damien and Avery to the mix, and this was a recipe for unhinged mayhem.

Ivy was truly unhinged… and I think I’m in love…
“If I had my knife on me, I wouldn’t have had to use my key to cut through the tape he bound my wrists with,” she mutters. Then her grin snaps back, sharp and wicked. “But it did come in handy. Get it? Handy?”

Trigger for those that don’t pay attention…
This has swords crossing, DP, grooming elements, and a lot of happy unalivings…
Yep, one character is 29, another is 18, and another is 17…
If you don’t like any of these… eh… your loss, because this book is all the better for it… just so deliciously grey and then full into we’re going to burn in hell dark…

Damien was the ‘daddy’ figure we all need.
“I don’t know whether to throttle her for her recklessness or applaud the improvisation. Maybe both. But one thing’s certain: I’m going to enjoy making Shawn regret ever breathing near her.”

For the record, I love a good MFM and I’m not usually a fan of swords crossing. I’ll read books with it, but often skip those particular parts. In this, the relationship dynamic was integral to the storyline, and our dear author made it work. It was filthy, powerful, showed the power dynamics, and apparently turned Ivy on. The fact is, the MMF/MFM/MM was integral, but overall the story focused on them and their environment, the ‘romance’ was almost a by-product, so if it’s not your jam, skip those scenes and enjoy the rest of the book.

Avery
“I laugh softly and lean my head back, pressing a kiss to his neck. We’ll have her. Soon.”

When you realise how convoluted, twisted and connected everything is, you'll be shocked!
By the way, I don’t think I’ll look at a rolling pin the same way ever again…

So TLDR: deliciously dark, dark as night MMC’s and FMC, twisted mayhem and a delightful and playful HEA to finish on a light note. Awesome book.

I can’t deny how honored I feel to have received an ARC copy of Sunder from A.M. Kray — and to have had the opportunity to contribute to its cover design makes this read all the more personal to me.

Let me be blunt: Sunder is NOT for the faint of heart. It’s dark, raw, and uncompromising — but also deeply compelling. There’s pain, anger, betrayal, longing, and a fierce drive for justice woven through its pages.

At its core, Sunder is about Ivy — a character who so desperately wants to live, to be seen, to be valued. But she is systematically neglected, bullied, dismissed by those around her. These wounds don’t break her; they transform her. She retaliates. She claims agency. She fights back.
What I found especially powerful is how the author doesn’t shy away from bleakness. Ivy’s torment is real, but so is her fire — and that duality is the novel’s heartbeat.

Themes of trauma, resilience, vengeance, identity, and retribution infuse Sunder. The book forces readers to reckon with cruelty — both inflicted and endured. It also forces us to ask: what happens when someone pushed to the edge decides not to be the victim anymore?

If you’re ready for a novel that doesn’t sugarcoat pain, that refuses to allow complacency, then Sunder will grip you. Ivy’s story — her descent and rebellion — stays with you. This is not a comfortable read.

You won’t regret giving it your time. I promise.

I really enjoyed this book and devoured it in one sitting! It's completely different to the authors previous book that I read but I loved it!

This is a dark romance so please take note of the triggers there are dark elements, age gap, MMF and all round psychotic chaos!!

Its a short read but I really enjoyed it and loved Ivy in all her psychotic glory while she dished out her revenge. I love a good unhinged dark romance and it's no wonder she turned out the way she did with all that happened to her but she found her family in the end and what a family!

I really liked the relationship between Ivy, Damien and Avery and thought they belonged together with each of them having they're own darkness, the chemistry between them was amazing and the spicy scenes were 🔥

This was hands down one of the best unhinged reads of 2025! Ivy is a so sweet and feral, I love her vibe from start to finish. She is the perfect example of fafo when she's had enough and you've done wrong. Avery is all golden retriever vibes with a side of cut a bi**h and Damien is older, possessive and so yummy you're gonna be fanning yourself. I loved everything, the found family, the gore, the reasons for doing what they do cut deep. There are some serious themes in this book so read your triggers. I loved how the sweet was thrown in amidst all the chaos it showed they were more then their demons. 100% recommend and will be a definite reread for me 💀☠️🔪🔥❤️

Ivy, Avery, and Damian have all experienced trauma, the kind only someone else who has been through it can fully comprehend. Damian Shepherd's name fits him perfectly. His home, The Fold, is there to protect tiny lives that have been shattered, ignored by corruption and corrupted by evil. There is nothing neat and tidy here. There is pain. Your heart will break but through that break will come the satisfaction of the scales being righted after justice knocks them down. Sunder is an accurate title. You will feel it, but the journey is worth it. Wonderfully written and emotionally wrecking, Sunder is a great read.

This story completely had my attention. It's a fascinating psychological thriller, romantic suspense including an MMF relationship. Ivy the MFC is definitely out for revenge. There's plenty of un@living for the people who deserve it. So check your tr!ggers. Damien and Avery are the two MMCs who are exactly what she needs. They are her perfect for her. If you love dark stories you should definitely check this one out.

Dark Romance. Revenge. Throuple. All The Murders.

Couples that kill together, stay together…

I went into this book completely blind and I was not disappointed!
We love a strong FMC 👏🏼

It’s a very quick read that will keep you on your toes from chapter 1.
I wish there was more of a back story on Avery & Damien, but maybe in the future?? 🤞🏼

All in all, another great read by A.M Kray!

Please read the T.W. before proceeding.

This book is loaded with angst; you will be in awe how the story unfolds. A.M Kray wrote this book with a sharp twist and turn that takes your emotions to a plethora of disbelief, angst. The ending is a plus with a redemption Arc that is nicely done.
Thank you!!!

I binged this book it was that good. If you want MFM dark romance, this is the book. The spicy level is a 5 and the darkness is on point. These characters are relatable and you can justify why they do what they do. Great read by a great author!
