“… it’s the small details – the tucked-away wine bars, local handicraft shops, and spontaneous festivals in city squares – that make a visit here feel personal and special.”

Having recently been scammed and badly burnt by the purchase of an independently published AI-generated “travel guide” to Bucharest, Romania, that was ultimately cover-to-cover rubbish, I’ll confess I was (and remain, truth be told) skeptical of Mr Blake’s efforts. But with a qualified smile, I’m pleased to pass tentative judgment that, while the skepticism remains, it appears it was, to a certain extent, unwarranted. That is to say, I remain unconvinced that BRATISLAVA is entirely original work (without the benefit of AI research if not actual writing) based on his travel experience, but it is an interesting and informative compilation of useful travel guidance.

Indeed, it is my hope that it will prove valuable in developing a personal itinerary for my first one week stay in Slovakia’s capital city.

As an experienced traveler to the four points of the compass in Europe, including extended stays in Lisbon, Seville, London, and the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela – I can tell you that BRATISLAVA is an interesting variant on the usual travel guides. It focus is serving as an experiential guide as opposed to merely being a descriptive list of destinations, accommodations and eateries.

Informative on the face of it, compelling, interesting, and entertaining with well-written text, and definitely motivational, Martins Blake has provided a solid base for the development of an itinerary for an introductory trip to Bratislava that focus on the likes and mental outlook of a myriad of potential visitors – history freaks, foodies, art and culture lovers, outdoorsmen and nature lovers, shoppers, family visitors with children, clubbers and party animals, and connoisseurs of fine wines and craft beers (that would be me).

Readers of this review will understand when I award a qualified 3 stars and withhold a 4th or 5th star pending determination of the accuracy and value of the guide on the basis of next summer’s actual experience on the trip. In the meantime, a genuine thank you to Martins Blake for his assistance in planning that trip.
