•H: I think he was older than her. Virgin, said there was opportunities but he never was interested in acting on them. He said he had never touched a woman, kissed a woman or anything before her.

•OMD: not really. Friend tries to set h up on a date, it never happens and he's not mentioned again. Parents also try to set her up with someone, she dances with him and we also never see him again.

These Marinov men have a way of getting under your skin and staying there. I thought my obsession was strictly with K, but when we got the other brothers I knew it wasn't just K, but he was my main man, until Anton walked on the scene and stole the show with his ruthlessness, broodiness, and possessive ways. When the Marinovs and Whitlocks first came on the scene together it was intense and I knew it was probably going to end up brutal, but something about Thora Whitlock grabbed the unfeeling Anton Marinov and he slowly becomes obsessed. Thora has a knack for wanting to heal broken animals and most would think that is what she finds in Anton, but what others don't realize is she sees his brokeness and loves it the way it is. Anton and his cold demeanor makes everyone stand down, but not Thora, she shows him he is capable of feeling. The twists, the turns, the passion, will grab you and pull you under but it is Anton and Thora's devotion that will make you stay.

Tenía demasiadas ganas de leer la historia de Anton porque muchas veces se hablo de su falta de sentimientos a lo largo de los libros y la curiosidad por leer sobre el desde su propia perspectiva para entender como se sienta lo que pasaba por su cabeza ¡Era muy grande!
Su historia con Thora comenzó porque su hermano le dió un nuevo trabajo y era seguir todos los movimientos de ella porque sabían que era la debilidad de su familia y cuando llegara el momento el tendría que eliminarla pero nadie contaba con los sentimientos que surgirían con los pasos de los días porque Anton muy pronto descubre que ella lo hace sentir, al principio es una pequeña obsesión que lo empuja constantemente a protegerla de todo lo que la haga sentir mal y sobre todo despierta su lado tierno que quiere mimarla para hacerla sonreír porque se dió cuenta que cuando ella estaba feliz en el se generaba una paz que no entendía pero le gustaba 😭♥️. Algo que me gusto es que el nunca trato de huir de sus sentimientos y es mas busco ayuda para tener detalles bonitos con ella y sus acciones siempre hablaron por si solas, el decía que no sabía lo que era el amor porque nunca lo experimento, el la amo a su manera y fue una manera muy linda.
Los dramas del mundo fueron inesperados en todos los sentidos y me sentí muy mal por Thora, ella tenía un corazón muy dulce y no merecía estar rodeadas de mentiras que la lastimaran tanto 😭🫂

So like I’ve said in all my other reviews for this series- I have loved every single book … but tbh Anton might take the cake as the best MMC 🥵 there’s just something about him, maybe it’s the unfiltered bluntness lol. I gave this book a 4/5 ⭐️ rating only because the found family storyline with the FMC and her missing brother seemed a little random- I feel as if it was thrown in right at the end when it could have been more explained through out the entire book

So he’s supposed to kill her and they fall in love anyway so why do we need a rando kidnapping side plot?? That ruined it. I loved quite a bit about this but that really took the shine off of it.
I did enjoy the virgin being the man for once. Nice change of pace. But he could’ve been a bit less smooth - shown more vulnerability.

Definitely a page turner.

Just... I need to get my thoughts set here for this. But holy moly, I was not expecting this from Anton and man Lilian delivered alright!
Insane from the get go Anton has his new mark to una*ive, and Thora Witlock is his mark.
Nothing goes according to plan. Did I get emotional and cry ? Yes I did! Was I amazed at the unhingedness? Yes I did! Have I fallen head over heels for Anton? I most definitely have!
And the woman who brought him to his knees, also yes! Oh boy a must read! A fabulous mafia read!!

Anton is the fourth book in Harris' Marinov Bratva series. This enemies to lovers, mafia romance features Anton Marinov and Thora Whitlock.
Thora is a brilliant veterinarian who works on a farm in New Jersey. While she may be a Whitlock, her family keeps her out of the "family business" in order to keep her safe. Unfortunately, her father Harlan crossed the Marinovs by supplying their customers, and now her life is in danger.
While they are all prepared to get their hands dirty, Anton is very much the family enforcer. After an unfortunate abusive incident in his childhood, Anton doesn't experience emotions the same way as most people. He never questions his brother's orders and always carries out elimination instructions. Anton was told to keep eyes on Thora as she would be a message to the Whitlocks if they didn't step back. What Anton did not anticipate is having Thora get under his skin.
Thora is sweet and thoughtful, stubborn and brave, and she turns his vicious guard dog Volchok into an adorable and loving puppy. She is entirely unexpected. When he gets the order to unalive her, he knows he can't do it. Not only that, he is prepared to keep her safe from anyone else who dares to harm her.
I love a mafia romance, but I wasn't sure how Harris was going to make readers fall for Anton's character. It is hard to pull for a character who kills without remorse. Still, she did it. Like Anton, I did not expect Thora and the effect she had on this ruthless, emotionless man. Slowly but surely, Anton wormed his way into my heart, just as he did for Thora. It reinforces that there is one perfect person for everyone. I loved how his character didn't really change, and yet it did. I appreciated how he quickly became possessive and then protective of her. As for Thora, I loved how she saw beyond the gruff exterior and found his well hidden heart. Growing up as a Whitlock she was certainly aware of their world, but stepping into it was another thing all together. Even though she was essentially coddled and protected, she bravely faced danger and kept her head in difficult times. I loved that about her.
Unexpectedly, this book also had me chuckling a few times, including in Chapter 40 when Anton says, "I can react for you. With my gun." Also, shoutout to Rue and Lev. Absolutely precious!
Fortunately, our time with the Marinovs has not come to an end. It looks like we will get Mikhail's story in May 2027, and I would anticipate his twin brother Arkady's story some time after that. I'll try to be patient.

I love Lilian Harris and her books, and I’ve been waiting for Anton’s book for SO long, especially since she first started the Marinov Bratva series.
I was excited for this one, but sadly… it really disappointed me.
Konstantin? Not my type at all. Then Alexei came along and—oh my god. That’s my husband. He’s still number one for me. Then came Kirill, who I didn’t really like, and now Anton… and honestly, I expected so much more from him.
Anton and Thora are still some of my favorite characters, right after Fiona and Alexei, but the story itself just didn’t work for me.
There were two things that really bothered me. The scenes about the heroine’s nightmares and her past felt like they were missing something, and the whole part with Anton being in prison and the person who helped him also wasn’t shown the way I wanted. I really wish the author had explored those parts more instead of rushing through them.
It honestly felt like this book was written too quickly, and I was really disappointed because I wanted this to be a 5/5 so badly.
The beginning was actually REALLY good, and I liked the heroine a lot. Then the story started losing me.
And the spice? Okay, I LOVE it. There were a few scenes I really enjoyed, and honestly, the spice saved this book for me.
Alexei and Fiona are still my favorite book and favorite couple in this series so far. I really hope Mikhail’s book doesn’t disappoint me, because I have a feeling I might actually love it.
I’m also REALLY excited for Daddy and Savannah’s book in 2027. I don’t really know how I feel about Mikhail yet, but the single-mom heroine and Mikhail helping her sound really good to me.

Going in I was unsure how Anton would develop as a character. Having the childhood he did, and becoming an emotionless ‘robot’.
Given an order, study get intel and then end.
But his character developed so beautifully. Showing layers of him, even he didn’t know he had.
Nothing has gotten in his way of a mission, until his target became Thora, the only woman that has gotten under his skin and made him feel things he hasn’t before.
Never touching a woman, until the night he drops to his knees. One taste and he’s unable to stay away from her. Telling himself he will allow him to enjoy being physically with her until he ends her then he will go back to not touching another woman.
Thora, the sweet girl that connects more with animals than anyone around her. Not feeling like she belongs anywhere other than with animals, then Anton.
Knowing he’s one man she should stay away from, their family are on the verge of war, he’s the big scary assassin with a scared past and body but Thora sees past the scars and the permanent angry look, and sees the little boy before trauma forced it way in.
I cried so much at some parts, to the point I had to stop to take a breather.
Did I sit and read in one sitting? Pretty much yeah. I couldn’t stop reading and falling in love with them.

This story is a an excellent read for the Marinov Bratva, the brothers have each others back. Anton was given an assignment, not yet to be carried out, still watching his person, who becomes more intent on him as time goes on. The drama, dynamics, the unknown and chemistry between the hitman and his mark is undeniable. This story has so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing and waiting for the inevitable next flip in the events. Absolutely loved this story.

Anton is the quiet brother of the family the one sent to eliminate problems for the family with zero remorse because his father made sure long ago that Anton felt nothing that emotion was a liability until he began observing the youngest daughter of the Whitlock family Theora Whitlock she is sunshine to Anton’s grumpiness and when confronted with Anton face to face she sees something in Anton that makes her want to dig under the surface and show him the broken pieces of feelings are still there and it’s ok to feel, to love and to want someone and something more. However Theoras world is turned upside down my a secret long held by her family and the past meets her future in a way Theora never expected

I have been obsessed with this series from book one and have been so excited to learn more about Anton, the emotionless and anti love brother.
Anton views love as a weakness and has made that clear from the beginning. However, that changes quickly once he is assigned to follow and eventually kill Thora. Things heat up quickly between Those and Anton, however when it comes to a relationship between the two, I would say it's a pretty slow burn (although they both obviously want so much more!).
I love how quickly he becomes attached and obsessed with Thora, especially since he has never kissed, had a relationship with another person, and he is also a virgin. But Thora is so special, and I love their love!
This is a dark romance with some suspense and definitely had some twists and turns I did not expect!
I loved how protective and possessive they became of one another and how sweet they were. There is also a very sweet caretaking scene which I always love!
Anton and Thora definitely did not disappoint!

ANTON spent a life devoid of feeling – until he met Thora ...
... and she brought out feelings that Anton had never experienced and his brothers had never seen.
ANTON, the fourth book in Author Lilian Harris' Marinov Bratva series was an unputdownable book and I loved reading about this emotionless and damaged man finally find out for himself what the fuss was all about regarding love and the presence of women in his brother's lives who they protect about all else.
While ANTON could be read as a stand-a-lone, I highly recommend reading the preceding three books and I'm sure you will love meeting his older brothers and the strong ladies who complete them. ANTON is the youngest by far and had been the most sensitive until their father put a beating on him that almost killed him. His was the saddest circumstances we'd read in their books and to finally read his POV was pure pleasure.
After reading about Lev, Anton’s autistic nephew in KIRILL, I knew that Ms Harris’ own family experience of autism would provide perfect background for a character who had suffered a traumatic brain injury at the hand of his father at a young age. He was left devoid of feelings and emotions, the perfect personality to mold as his father’s personal hit-man, continuing the role when his eldest brother took over as Pakhan.
Thora Whitlock was his next target, but I loved that she was such a cheerful, caring and magnetic character that Anton couldn't help but want to be near her.
She was a conumdrum to him and made him question everything he thought he knew about himself, and about the concept of love that he’d been unable to understand as he watched his older brothers capitulate to the women they obsessively loved and protected. Anton thought they’d weakened and couldn’t understand how this had come about, and I loved how Ms Harris brought about his understanding slowly and surely, layer by layer as his own obsession with Thora grew.
When his vicious beast of a dog rolled over for a pat and exposed his belly to her, I had to laugh as first off he felt betrayed that his guard dog had abandoned his post. If his dog could not withstand her sunny disposition, how on earth was he to hold out for himself? He’d previously stayed aloof towards any member of the female population, never once considering or needing a connection in any form, but Thora slowly had him needing to be around her, touching her, wanting to do nice and considerate ‘practical’ things to help make life easier for her and ultimately, wanted to connect and touch her in every way a man wants his woman.
It was beautiful to read as Anton’s personality seemed to unfurl and reveal itself as wanting to be better for her, and her only.
The banter between the brothers as they witnessed their youngest and most damaged brother seemingly join the human race made for laugh out loud reading as these deadly serious Bratva alpha men were shocked to see a smile finally grace the face of their family hit-man;

ANTON, the fourth book in Author Lilian Harris' Marinov Bratva series was an unputdownable book and I loved reading about this emotionless and damaged man finally find out for himself what the fuss was all about regarding love and the presence of women in his brother's lives who they protect about all else.
While ANTON could be read as a stand-a-lone, I highly recommend reading the preceding three books and I'm sure you will love meeting his older brothers and the strong ladies who complete them. Oh my gosh Anton & Thora story will give you all the feels and I loved their story. I think it’s been a long time coming for Anton’s story, even though he’s been on the sidelines with snide comments making his thoughts on his brother's new relationships known, Anton has been that character that you couldn’t wait to unfold. It was very interesting being inside his head, his feelings are certainly locked up tight and seeing how this starts to change the moment Thora unexpectedly crosses his path. Thora was supposed to just be a target…However, the lines start to blur as Thora inserts herself into his life and Anton's obsession with her starts to grow even more.
I was surprised by Thora too, she does shy away from her family's dealings but actually has the confidence to stand next to Anton and is not afraid to stand up for herself when she does meet the Marinov brothers. I loved how her relationship started to develop with Anton and what we learned from both of them. It showed a lot between them and their storyline overall.
The steam between these two…The passion and vulnerability is beautiful…Drama is never far behind these Marinov brothers!

4 ⭐️ Which doesn’t quite reflect that I finished this in a day lol, but there were a few things that kept this from being a full 5 star read.
Anton is the sociopathic assassin for Marinov family Bratva. He’s the youngest of 4 brothers with a horrifically traumatic childhood at the hands of their father. Like… there is some on page abuse so be prepared. What he suffered is not for the faint of heart. It’s made him into an unfeeling killing machine.
His next target, Thora, is a vet and youngest of the Whitlock crime family in NJ. She’s a lot of sunshine and animal whispering, and when she makes Anton’s scary dog fall in love with her on the sidewalk, their “meet cute” ensues.
What follows is a sweet, albeit taxing, romance full of hot/cold, push/pull angst that doesn’t let up until nearly the end. Anton is damaged. He doesn’t understand regular feelings, certainly not love, so whatever Thora is awakening in him is confusing and unwelcome. But the more he stalks his target (purely for research purposes of course), the more he realizes he’s in deep and can’t kill her.
Thora is drawn to Anton instantly, even though he’s cold and aloof towards her, and often annoyed. She’s the light to his dark, and she refuses to let him hide from her. As she begins to peel back his layers and see the man buried beneath the violence and trauma, she discovers someone worth loving, and is determined to fight for that love, even if it’s Anton himself.
I really liked these two. But I was so tired of the push/pull. The angst is so high in this one, and while Anton has good reason to doubt his newly discovered feelings and push Thora away, the poor girl keeps coming back for me. Much of this story felt a bit like a girl chasing around a guy who isn’t sure how he feels about her. And much of it felt like a guy who doesn’t want to care about her but can’t help it. It was a taxing combo.
Also the miscommunication trope is heavy here with tons of secrets from all parties. Some worthy of the plot, and some just felt drawn out. But mainly, every time you think the MCs are finally about to start being happy, Anton pushes Thora away again, and your heart breaks a little for her, and the cycle starts over.
The dynamic between their two families felt slightly contrived, and the reason for the hit on Thora didn’t make a ton of sense to me. The twist I saw coming, but it was still decent, however the Charlie stuff near the end felt a little too out of the blue and over the top.
The last 30% was pretty stellar if I’m honest. It’s the first half that I felt dragged on as it’s just a continuous cycle of them banging, he pushes her away, she’s sad, he can’t stay away, rinse and repeat. No real action or meaningful conversation even happens until like halfway I felt.
Still a well written mafia romance. Love a good thaw from an emotionally closed off MMC. This was a good grumpy/sunshine, though Thora was a tad too sunshine at times. I’ll check out more by author though.

I did not put this book down once I started reading it. I was pleasantly surprised with this entire book from the writing to the character to the twist and turns throughout the story. I’m glad I read this book, but I’m going to be so tired for work today lol !!!
What I loved: I loved how sweet and compassionate Anton is. I love his possessiveness and his jealousy and his willingness to act crazy. I loved Thora continuing to love him for who he is and not becoming too serious with his psycho personality. All of the Marinov Brothers know each other really well and it creates a great family structure. I think the same thing with the female main character and her family.
What I didn’t love: I wish that there was more description of how crazy Anton is. In books previous to this you get a really good picture of his lack of emotions. I feel like if that was there, the reader would be more pulled in by his character and understanding his level of growth through the book. I also feel like it would’ve made him look even scarier because in the other books, he seems really scary. -There was a cliffhanger :/ in regards to something that happens with Thora, so maybe the author will bring that together in future books.

If you want grumpy/sunshine, dark, stalker, touch-her-and-die, a whole lotta heat with actual EMOTION…this book definitely deserves to be at the top of your TBR or better yet buy it.

After reaching the end of book three I've been looking so forward to more! I've been so curious about Anton's story. I jumped right back into the Marinov Bratva world. I really enjoyed this book so very much!
Anton and Thora's journey drew me in from the start and didn't let go! These two both know how dark the world can be. Anton is an assass!n and his target is his enemy's daughter, Thora, a veterinarian. As they shake up each other's worlds, can Thora and Anton find a way to be together?
From their first interaction on page, Blair and Anton had me glued to them and holding my breath as I took in every moment between them. I really enjoyed the assass!n x target of it all and what it brought to their story. I've been wanting to dig deeper with Anton and I'm so glad I got to do so with him as well as with Blair. These two were such strong characters!
Thora was such a caring soul which showed throughout! I adored the fact that she loved animals. Thora ignited so much within Anton's heart throughout which was so lovely to see. Anton was absolutely consumed by his mark. I loved how Thora got to him in ways no one else could. He had my heart falling for sure! Anton and Thora's chemistry was so fantastic and real. These two had me feeling a lot with them throughout!
Things are far from easy in the mafia world and I was on edge as I waited to see how things would play out for Anton and Thora!
Sometimes things don't always go according to plan and it can lead to something amazing which Thora and Anton's journey sure showed!
It was great being reunited with the Marinov family. Also, I must mention Volchok!
With Anton, Lilian Harris has created such an addictive assass!n x target romance that'll keep you invested from beginning to end and feeling every bit! ❤️💀

I have been waiting for Anton's story since he was first introduced. Was he going to be the cold and brutal person I thought he might be because of his father, or could there be a little but of light and warmth in his cold heart? Anton is the fourth book in this remarkable series and with each book we are pulled into the world of the Marinov family and their dealings. Ms. Harris has once again given us a story of danger, angst, family, betrayal, friendships, and enemies who become impossible to leave alone.
Can you imagine going against your family and falling for the woman who you know is the enemy? The woman, Thora, whom Anton was supposed to kill because of her family and their dealings, is now the woman he can't forget. Is he just keeping a close watch on her, or is his heart pulling him towards her? Thora, who feels as if she is on the outside of her family and never belonged, is now pulled towards the man she feels she shouldn't be. She sees Anton for the man he is, deep down, and wants to show him that the scars and the past do not scare her. Her tenderness and caring see Anton becoming the man that he never thought was possible. The torture and abuse at the hands of his father had him believing he was to live in the darkness for life.
What hit me hard was him dreaming of his mother and how she saw him. The man who can love and be loved and not the man his father wanted him to be. Also, the closeness between Anton and his brothers. When he fell for Thora, it was like they could see into his heart and soul that something in him had changed.
Ms. Harris does throw us a curveball a couple of times with Thora's family as well as Anton's family. I could go on but I do not want to give any spoilers. All I can say is you have to grab this thrilling and addictive story.

Anton doesn’t feel anything, due to everything he was submitted to by his father when he was younger, which as the family’s assassin, it works for him.
With the new target the plan is to follow her, know her movements and wait until his brother gives the order. When he finds her crying it stirs something in him and he takes her home. He never expected that he would end up losing his virginity to her, although he doesn’t tell her. He knows how to please a woman he’s seen enough at the family club.
He tells Thora that he was following her, she knows he’s not the most innocent man, and none of it bothers her. His brothers start to question things, but he can’t let them know because Thora is a target he can’t disobey his brother. As things go on though that’s all he thinks about that he can’t do it.
Thora knows that Anton is definitely someone she shouldn’t want but he’s the only person that makes her feel safe and makes her feel what she knows she shouldn’t.
When Anton’s cousins show up, he panics wondering why they are here they do the same as him, has his brother worked out he can’t finish the job with Thora. So he does the only thing he can rushes to where she is to protect her. The problem is neither of them could have anticipated what was going to happen, and Anton knows now that he’s going to have to answer some questions from his brothers, and he knows he will do anything to protect Thora, she’s his, anything including going against his brothers.

Anton is the family assassin, and he easily kills and moves on, just as he was raised to do. He has an unapproachable aura, but I found him to be less robotic than I thought he’d be; maybe this has more to do with Thora. Their compatibility is without question, and together they have a fabulous energy.
And… just like that, he falls victim to the same thing his brothers did—love! The road isn’t smooth, and yet it seemed perfect for them both. Their chemistry is combustible and very, very 🔥 to read.

Anton is the fourth book in the Marinov Bratva series. In Anton‘s book he has been sent by their family to kill a member of their enemies. He is waiting on the order to kill so for now he watches, stalks and observes. His target is Thora Whitlock, the family’s vet and pride and joy, and also the baby of the family. She is so sweet to animals and she’s so friendly to everyone. She walks around with a smile and just lights up a room. Anton gets annoyed by that. He’s even more annoyed when he finds her tickling his dog who is known to be the most ferocious attack dog. He wasn’t expecting for her to approach him, but he feels that she likes him. If that’s what it takes, he will use it to his advantage. So he gets to know her and starts to see that there’s more than what people think. He is still waiting for his brother to finally tell him to kill her when he sees her in a possibly dangerous situation. He is consumed by the need to protect her. He doesn’t understanding why but he wants her safe. She makes him feel things he’s never felt before. The moment he lets himself get close to her, he knows he doesn’t wanna let her go. Now he doesn’t know what he’s gonna do when his brother tells him it’s time. He’s never refused an order, but he’s willing to do so now. He wants to be with her. What will happen when she learns the truth and finds out he was planning on killing her? Will she let him explain or will she turn her back on him? This was an action packed roller coaster. I found myself smiling every time. It was filled with drama, danger, humor, secrets, heat, action, and heartbreaking twists. I am so excited we are getting another book.

First things First if Lilian Harris writes it, I'M GOING TO READ IT, she DID THE DANG THING WITH ANTON, OMG WHEN I TELL YOU I COULDN'T BE MORE IN LOVE WITH THIS MAN CAUSE HE IS EVERYTHING! OMG for a grumpy, assassin and a man who still had HIS V CARD but trust me he definitely knew how to make his THORA VERY HAPPY 😉. He is sent to watch the FMC (Thora) the enemies daughter and take her out & NOT on a date either but what he doesn’t expect is to find her upset after she has an unexpected panic attack at a club after she had a flashback of a traumatic past event & when he comforts her, he realizes he actually likes having her in his arms which he realizes is a big mistake for him as he's NEVER let anyone in or close to him & the thought of her getting close makes him worried. Because of course his childhood trauma he doesn't think he can or is worthy of love but thankfully with Thora around with some time she helps him learn that he can be loved and can love and it's ok to do so. When Thora goes missing Anton doesn't stop until he finds his Thora & who causes her disappearance heavily pays the cost. If you love a Russian Mafia dark romance where the MMC would burn the world down for the one he loves then you won't want to miss this story cause you won't be disappointed. I didn’t think I would like the Marinov brothers but of course Lillian made me love them all & I'm sad to goodbye to them because they way she writes she makes you feels if your apart of the family so if this is what you're looking for the PICK ANTON TODAY.

My favorite mafia author has done it AGAIN. And honestly, Anton and Thora broke my heart in the best possible way.
Anton is everything you expect from a Bratva assassin—cold, deadly, ruthless, and seemingly completely devoid of emotion. After the horrific abuse he endured growing up, it’s no wonder he became the man his brothers send when someone needs to disappear. His success rate is 100%… until Thora.
Thora is his complete opposite. She’s light where he is darkness. Kind, loving, stubborn, and brave, but carrying plenty of pain and conflict of her own. She should be nothing more than his target. The enemy’s daughter he’s been ordered to kill. Instead, she becomes the one person who makes him feel something.
Watching this emotionally tortured, seemingly heartless man slowly unravel for the one woman he was never supposed to want? EVERYTHING. The forced proximity, the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, the “only soft for her,” the protective Anton, the Touch Her and 💀 energy… I ate it ALL up.
But what really got me was the emotional depth. Underneath all that darkness is a broken man who has never known what it means to be loved, and Thora somehow sees the parts of him no one else ever bothered to look for. And Anton learning that maybe he isn’t beyond saving? My heart.
This was emotional, intense, beautifully dark, and completely addictive. Anton may be one of the most damaged MMCs I’ve read in this series, but watching him discover that he is capable of love, and that he is enough, was everything.
Another five stars from me, because apparently this author just refuses to let me have emotional stability.
