Dr. Alina Falkner is a scientist. She believes in data, in logic, in the cold hard rock of the Martian landscape. So when impossible energy readings lead her deep into a newly-opened cavern, she expects a geological anomaly, not the last echo of an ancient world, awakened by advanced human technology. He is dangerous. He is impossible. And he is her secret to keep.
He was born in darkness. She was his first light.
Born from a fusion of cyborg blood and the planet's dormant DNA, Rhyx is a newborn in a warrior's body, and the brilliant, gentle human who found him is the first thing he has ever known. Trapped together by a raging dust storm, she becomes his fierce, consuming passion. He will do anything to keep her, even though the world outside their sanctuary threatens to tear them apart.
A ruthless scientist, obsessed with both Alina and her secrets, is pursuing them both. As the hunt intensifies, Alina must choose between the career she's dedicated her life to and the impossible male she's fallen for. But when you’re hiding the last dragon on Mars, the price of discovery isn't just loss—it's extinction.
I have been impatiently, desperately waiting for this book since I read “The Lone Cyborg” in September 2025. Unsurprisingly and to my great pleasure, I was not disappointed with this newest Mars book.
An ancient draconic being reborn. A curious scientist braving the impossible. Love defending its mate against all odds.

While I did receive an ARC of this book, my review is wholly my own and uninfluenced by receiving the ARC.
We've been catching hints about where things are heading on Mars and OH MAN IS IT GOOD. Not that I didn't expect the cyborgs to play a big role (you know, since they were a big part of the terraforming and protection of Mars), but I'm SUPER excited about the merging of ancient DNA and cyborg technology and everything that could mean for the settlers. SUPER excited.
So. Alina is a scientist who's dealing with some very unwanted attention from one of the other scientists she's working with. No. Wait. She's not working with him. He just happens to work where she works. He is, unfortunately, not someone who understands the word No and isn't overly burdened by morals or ethics. So when some anomalous reading pop up, she does what anyone who needs to get away from a toxic work environment would do and heads out to check it.
Thanks to one doozy of a dust storm (the same storm that forced Cass and Zach into close quarters in CoM7), Alina ends up stranded in an impossible Martian cavern as she waits it out. And there she finds the source of the anomalous readings. Rhyx. Well, he's not quite Rhyx when she first finds him. He's an impossible, incredible being who hasn't quite awakened yet. When he does, Alina is the first individual he sees. She becomes his anchor-point and his light and, well, his mate.
Alina is fascinated and enthralled by Rhyx, but she's also very worried (with reason) that if anyone finds out about him *cough*GenCon*cough* they'll do all sorts of terrible things to him. Because, YEAH, GenCon is not nearly as hobbled by the sanctions slapped on them for their previous unethical experiments as everyone hoped.
Let's just say that GenCon is bad, Ryhx is deadly, and the cyborgs are going to need to be on their toes if they want to keep this world they helped colonize safe. That said: Dragons! And Cyborgs! On Mars! YES! (I know this book isn't cyborg-centered, but I really like cyborgs, okay!)
This is an exciting sci-fi romance. It is the first book in the Dragons on Mars series, as well as a spin-off from the Cyborgs on Mars series.
Scientist FMC Alina has been obsessed with Mars since she was a child. Now that she’s an adult and has made her way to the colony, she’s a dedicated researcher. When she discovers a potentially groundbreaking anomaly in her readings, she heads out to explore on her own. What she finds is extremely unexpected, alien MMC Rhyx, who has been lying dormant underground, waiting for the right conditions… which, in this instance, turns out to be a cute, curvy little scientist.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the Cyborgs on Mars series, so I was excited to see that series expanded on. The FMC is delightful, fierce and capable, and the MMC is dedicated and loyal. There is some getting-to-know-you/language barrier confusion in the beginning, but that is resolved relatively quickly in a logical way. There were also some past characters from the Cyborgs on Mars series, which was fun to see again, but you wouldn’t have to have read that series to enjoy this book.
A delightful start to the series! I can’t wait to see what happens next in book 2, Ice Dragon’s Heart, which was alluded to at the end of this book and is scheduled for release in July 2026.

Set in the same Mars, that so many Cyborgs have found out, that they are still men who deserve wives/mates, and each one is thriving, and connected by a Brotherhood. Alina was a dedicated scientist who was all about the joy of discovery, and sharing any findings that would benefit the people living there. Making all their lives safer, having breathable air, without the necessity of apparatus covering their faces, to venture outside of habitats. Getting caught in a Sand Storm, that came up faster than expected had her finding shelter in one of the lava tube caves. Finding a whole environment growing within, she realized this was more then her readings meant to her. Then seeing something large, man shaped, and feeling a pulse. Like a strong heartbeat, she pushing the leaves and suddenly feeling something solid, and the heartbeat was warm in her hand. She pulled back, only to have a large strong hand grab her wrist. That hand is attached to a very large golden scaled covered , gorgeous man. His name after she has coaxed him to learn words, he suddenly recalls is Rhyx, and he believes he is the beginning of new Martian life, that were seeded by the original people, to plan for the dying of their planet. Lots of drama, A alliance with the Cyborgs, and prepare to fight back against the evil mercenary Gen-Con. This has a sweet temporary ending, but the next book is set up nicely. Trish. A.
Ignoring completely that the author lost the plot (this series is set after the Cyborgs on Mars series which was a - in my opinion - believable setup) with a humanoid man that wakes up millions of years by being found by a scientist who is coincidentally his mate after having lived millions of years as a dragon (that didn't have a humanoid shifter form!) on Mars...
Her writing style has also changed. It seems less focused, more passive and less streamlined to a plot which gave me several what the fuck moments in the first 20% of the story. The FMC finds a cave with signs of martian life (plants and a pod that contains the MMC), finds the man. Because of a sandstorm they are stuck for multiple days. For three days they touch constantly. They kiss. She ignores him for two days. Somehow the berries In the cave and her protein bars seem to last endlessly. He approaches her, kisses her. She tells him she needs more time. He tells her that since he waited millions of years to find his mate he can wait. Several hours later he corners her premeditatedly (well, apparently his patience ran out). Turns out he kept secret that there was a way out of the cave... How didn't she find it after almost a week? She isn't angry but she suddenly wants to forget everything about getting out and f.

I loved reading about the discoveries Alina made. It lead to her finding love. Also she found the first non human being. I loved how they learned to communicate, how they learned to trust each other and how they found the meaning of home. Rhyx also has discoveries. He discoveries more about himself, how he came to be and what woke him. Loved the secrets and twist to the discoveries. I loved the comparison between the cyborgs and Rhyx. I loved how he finds his purpose with Alina. Along the way they get help from Cass, Alina's friend and coworker and Zach , they found their own happiness in High Noon Cyborg. And even more help from Zeb and Mattie, their story was The Lone Cyborg. Martin, with his greed and wanting Alina , found out what karma had in store for him. He found out how protective Rhyx was with his mate, Alina. This could be read as a standalone, but I love the other stories just as much. POV of both. Third person , steam to the eventual romance. Intrigue and suspenseful action. This is a great start to the new dragon on Mars series. I was given a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Alina goes to a cave following an impossible signal and gets stuck in a sand storm. While in the cave she decides to follow the signal that leads her to an amazing cavern with its own biosphere....and a beautiful golden Alien. When she touches him he awakens and so begins a wonderful adventure. Rhyx is so sweet and so innocent in some ways but his love is all consuming for his mate. Alina is smart and strong and determined to protect her Dragon mate from all who would harm him. What follows is an amazing story filled with drama, mystery, action, romance and lots of love. There is a hard earned HEA. Honey Phillips has done it again with this wonderful beginning to a new series. I love getting to interact with the Cyborgs of Mars and their mates. I love this Martian world she has created. So well written. I cannot wait for the next book.
Last Dragon on Mars by Honey Phillips adds dragons to the surface of what was thought to be a dead Mars. Alina finds lush plant life deep inside a mountain that has been putting off signals. Inside a pod there's a huge and naked golden male who over several days gains ancient memories of a vibrant Mars and the ability to speak English, leading Alina and Rhyx to becoming lovers. After she returns to the lab, a slimy colleague attempts to seduce her and get her to join him in allowing Gen Corp to have her research, but she avoids the trap to hide Rhyx from being turned into a specimen. She and Rhyx must fight and kill off the mad scientist and his goons resulting in the couple's need to disappear to a hidden outpost far away... where another presence under the ice starts to awaken!.

Last Dragon On Mars is an exciting Sci-Fi romance that will follow FMC Dr. Alina Falkner in her search for some unusual energy readings coming from out in the Martian landscape. It is where she finds a cavern, and where her answers are found in a very special anomaly, MMC Rhyx who is a secret that has been awakened from the planets distant past. Loved this newest adventure on the red planet and the wonderful writing and imaginative world building that has introduced a very new and fresh twist to the Mars storyline. It was a pleasure being immersed in the danger, intrigue, emotion, passion and spice that flows through the pages of this entrancing read.

“Life, impossible life, hidden away beneath the surface of Mars.”
Alina discovers a cavern that might hold the greatest scientific discoveries of her career at the same time she has come to distrust the ethics of some of her peers.
Rhyx is trying to figure out who he is, and what is purpose is when the planet itself seems to show him the way. He is the ultimate old soul finding his way in a modern world full of humans and the occasional cyborg.
This series spins out of the Cyborgs of Mars series and is a great start to a nice twist in what is happening on the planet.
I really enjoyed the characters, particularly the way they think things through, and care about far more than just themselves.
This was a fab series opener and a wonderful spin-off of the Cyborgs on Mars series. Alina is a scientist that gets some anomalous readings and heads off to explore why. What she finds in a huge cavern blows her mind! Rhyx, a dragon shifter that has been lying dormant, waiting for the right circumstances to awaken, finds them in the curvy scientist ;P He's definitely fierce and capable in protecting her, but he's also totally devoted to her. What follows is an exciting adventure that includes forced proximity, baddies, friends, mystery and a spicy romance that ends in a fab HEA. So good and I am definitely looking forward to the next book :D
This start to a new series exceeded every expectation! I loved the whole “Cyborgs On Mars” series and was sad when I thought it had come to an end. Then Ms. Phillips brought out another book in that series that bridged into a whole new series spin-off. “Dragons on Mars” I thought? Sounded just a little too unbelievable. But with consummate literary skill and a relatively generous modicum of scientific insight Honey Phillips handled it like a pro. So again I am hooked on her newest series. It will be hard to wait for the next book in the series but I know it will be well worth it.. Can’t wait to see where this all winds up!
Steamy alien romance by Honey Phillips. I enjoy her books. I know anytime I read one that it will be interesting, engaging and steamy. This one did not disappoint. When Alina, a scientist, goes to check on irregular readings she ends up waking Rhyx from an extremely long “slumber.” He has patchy memories & doesn’t know who he is. She helps him adjust to his new life. They balance each other well. I liked that we also got glimpses of couples from previous stories in the series. There is quite a bit of steam and a HFN.

Wow! Excellent start to a new series. A beautiful love story & dragons! Alina wakes Rhyx & they find love! “For once in your life, Alina Falkner, stop running.” And with that it begins. Rhyx helps Alina find herself as their love helps him survive the loss of his old world. They need the help of the cyborgs to battle GenCon and others who would gladly stifle the re-emerging life. Can they save Mars for them all?

Alina is a scientist in Mars investigating some anomalies and caught in a storm. The cave is a miracle. It holds life never seen before, that should not exist.
Rhyx is awaken by Alina and carries the memory of his ancestors - enough spoilers, it is so worth discovering the mystery by yourself.
Gencorp will do everything to spoil it - corporate greed is universal.

So much excitement! I admire Alina for her brilliant mind and dedication to her research. Her search for answers leads her to Rhyx. I know you’ll be as excited about him as I am! He’s unique, with unusual ‘memories’ and isn’t hindered by human thoughts and limitations. The author has done an excellent job of rendering an exciting, well conceived story. The characters are brought to life: I know them: I feel their joy, experience the danger, and am thrilled when they fall in love. There is a hint of more to come on this fascinating planet - I can’t wait to see what comes about next!
I have waited for this book with a dragon Mars ever since reading the Cyborgs on Mars series and hints of life before the terraforming precariously began. The colorful and mysterious world existing beneath the surface is wonderfully detailed. A connection between an intelligent scientist and newly awakened dragon is dynamic, daring and could be dangerous if discovered. Book is engaging, tender and perfectly spicy.

A new series released by one of my favourite authors. This is a great story as a first in the series, and opens up up the world for everyone to enjoy. Rhyx is a sweet Hero, and such a protector towards his new found Dr, who begins to protect him as her discovery, but soon turns sweeter. Such a great storyline, looking forward to the rest of this series.

“Last Dragon on Mars” by Honey Phillips -An exciting sci-fi romance blending mystery, adventure, and heartfelt connection. I was lucky to receive a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest takeaways. Alina and Rhyx shine with a sweet yet intense bond, mixing curiosity, loyalty, and protection. A strong series opener with vivid world-building and a satisfying ending that leaves the reader wanting more. Another winning Honey Phillips story.
I absolutely love that we are back on Mars again for a new series! Even better, it is tied to the cyborg series which I loved. Rhyx and Alina were such great characters and a wonderful pairing. This book did a great job of setting the scene for the next books in the series. I could feel the emotions of hope and fear and possibility, as I read the book. I can't wait to see how it all plays out!.

OMG so creative and I just loved the story of Alina and Rhyxs!! The creativeness of the Mars story makes it hard to put the book down. GenCorp is again up to their dirty tricks but as the luck runs, good help is hard to find 😆!! Thankfully, GenCorp can only find creeps and @$$holes!! Such a good read, I love the Cyborg books and now these books. Actually, I seem to love all of Honey Phillips books!!!
The narrative captivates with its richly developed characters and intricately crafted universe. Each protagonist feels authentic and nuanced, while the supporting cast adds depth and complexity to the storytelling. The world-building is masterfully executed, creating a seamless and immersive experience that draws readers into the narrative's compelling landscape. I would recommend.
Spicy, male female, 3rd person dual point of view, paranormal romance. This is a spin off of the Cyborgs on Mars series. You can definitely read it without having read the previous series. But, they are great books so I recommend them. Quick, exciting yet cozy read. I am loving the world building and lore in all of these books.
Scientist Dr. Alina Faulkner has been following signs from deep beneath Mars surface. When she goes to investigate she finds lush foliage and a golden scaled alien. This should not be happening. And to top it off he claims that Altena is his mate. Now she must do whatever it takes to keep him secret. Great story wonderful characters.
Dr. Alina is a brilliant scientist, when she discovers Rhyx, she is in awe. Rhyx is an alien life form that is new but old to Mars. Rhyx and Alina are an interesting and incredible couple. With the discoveries Dr. Alina has made, with Rhyx by her side, and the changes happening to Mars, things are bound to become fascinating.
This looks like a fun new series that ties in with the Cyborgs on Mars while still being able to stand on it's own overall. I enjoyed getting to know both Rhyx & Alina in this story and seeing how they overcome the various obstacles they face. The epilogue set 2 months later gives a nice peak into their future and I look forward to reading the next book in this series Ice Dragon's Heart later this summer.
Steam Rating: Explicit Open Door 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is such an amazing new series and book one is just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know where Honey gets her inspiration from but dang what a brilliant mind. This is an exceptional story. From the very beginning you are drawn in. Memories, or lack thereof are haunting and filled with desperation and despair. An addictive read that leaves you wanting more 💜
It’s so much fun to see the Cyborgs on Mars universe expanded. Rhyx's instant, fierce devotion to Alina is incredibly sweet. Even though it is love at first sight for him, the way their connection grows still feels genuine and heartfelt. I enjoyed the cameos of other characters from previous books, though you can definitely read this as a standalone if you’re new to the series.
Last Dragon on Mars is a fantastic sci-fi romance. I absolutely loved this book. The characters are wonderful, with amazing strength and chemistry. The plot of the book is engaging and full of adventure. I love the world building in this series. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next book in the series.
