Luke wasn’t sure what he would receive in his blessing ceremony, but his father certainly expected more than a seemingly useless and altogether strange the Village-Making Gift. Now disowned and exiled to the borderlands under the pretense of “reclaiming the barren wasteland,” Luke has nothing left to lose. He sets off for the wilderness with only a dream of a quiet life and a single loyal maid. But the moment they arrive at the desolate frontier, his mysterious Gift automatically activates, building a village out of thin air! What was supposed to be a peaceful, off-the-grid life quickly spirals into something else entirely. As new villagers arrive and Luke’s Gift evolves with each new level up, his humble outpost quickly becomes one of the most formidable cities in the world. Luke dreams of a slow life, but that endgame seems more out of reach with each passing day. Because in this self-sufficient isekai fantasy, one failson’s throwaway Gift may just reshape the world!
If you come to this for a simple base-building story with all the familiar tropes, you've come to the right place.
There are a number of these stories out there and they are all exceptionally similar with the main difference being whether the MC establishes a village for monsters/beastkin or one for humans. This is the human type and follows the same formula you may have seen in something like Easygoing Territory Defense, although this book at least tries to ground the mechanics a little.
Basically, our MC is the firstborn child of a noble in a medieval society who receives his Gift at age 12. Unfortunately, it's the Gift of Village-Building instead of something like Sword Mastery, so his family exiles him to the frontier wasteland.
I enjoyed this one slightly more than Easygoing Territory Defense, though the comparison may vary by reader. They are both very basic reads, full of effortless wins for the MC. It was a nice detour for an afternoon, but I don't think I'll progress any deeper into the series.
heads up this book series is nasty. I love the kingdom building and other things but the story gets off ramp deeper in the series by weirdo shota crap.
The story is a fairly typical isekai light* story in which the protagonist gains an OP skill that at first glance appears useless and is banished as a result. He quickly learns the true power of the skill, and together with a quickly expanding number of friends makes a new living in the wilderness. There are some challenges, but he overcomes them with relative ease. World is simple, rather black-and-white, as are the characters. Plot is equally simple.
That in itself would be fine, even nothing sets it truly apart from other similar stories. It does come with a few things that are very dependent on personal taste. There is the crass humor, think a grandmother Torturer reforming bandits with the whip or elves getting obsessed with a bidet, but also the adult maid secretly lusting after the 12-year old protagonist (although it is mostly the occasional stray thought).
For me it is the 2.5 mid rounded up to 3 stars, but your mileage may vary.
* He has some vague memories of a previous life in Japan, which is mostly used to explain how he understands how his skill works, and why he is more peace loving than the typical noble in the world. It has no bearing beyond that.
I liked the idea of it, but everything went a bit too quickly, the main character gained power too fast, etcetera. Also, the age of the main character seems to vary between chapters...
