Maddie Rose can't take her eyes off the new boy in class, wondering why she's so drawn to him. The question’s answered when the boy approaches her, saying they've met before. Maddie's certain they haven't, until the boy introduces himself as Will Matthews, adding the date and place of their last 21st September, Centenary Lake.
The date and place resonate with Maddie, but there's one Centenary Lake was drained forty years ago. Maddie's head is spinning with the information, and her best friend, Georgia, is convinced it means something. As they ponder the arrival of Will Matthews, they find something extraordinary, suggesting Maddie has met Will before, but how?
Strange events begin to occur, opening Maddie's eyes to another world, and an enchanting boy with supernatural powers ... the boy she's falling for with an extraordinary story.
A good start for a new series of Valloran Chronicles by E. C. Myatt. The storyline is a bit slow and confusing. I didn't think there was much definition to the characters. I thought the characters needed more descriptions. The world building was pretty good. The magic system was different but interesting. Hopefully the next book gets better.
This book reads incredibly quick. When I got to the last page I was like: What? Already? Fortunately it is the first book in a series so there is more to come. There is great realism and relatability in the characterization of the story and a very vivid story and story-telling! I recommend this book especially for those who read the fantasy genre.
Things are about to get interesting in the small town of Willent Falls.
There's a new boy in town and his presence will act as the catalyst for the coming fight between otherworldly beings and the teenagers drawn into the battle. Are will and his Tribe really the good guys here as he claims? Is Maddie right to put her trust in him? Only time will tell.
I received a free Advance Reader Copy of Deadly Wishes through BookFunnel and have chosen to leave a review.
I wasn’t sure about this book when I first saw it but decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! It was fantastic! I loved the whole other world aspect of it. I love that the entire premise wasn’t given at the start but the reader gets to uncover and experience things along with Maddie. I can’t wait to read the next book!
An engaging coming-of-age story filled with twists and turns as each character faces life-changing decisions. The plot mirrors the unpredictable mind of a teenager—messy, surprising, and full of energy. A compelling and enjoyable read.
I started reading this and it was ok, then it started changing into something I would choose not to read. I read 25% and DNF. Some books are not for everyone.
