I am generally a big fan of Kelani Knox, but I am disappointed with this story. It’s not because her writing is bad or that the story premise was not compelling. In fact I was looking forward to reading the whole story. What got me upset as well as disappointed was the fact that I didn’t feel as if I was reading an interracial romance. I had no problem identifying the male lead as white but when it came to describing the female lead, all I got was a vague reference by the male lead looking for the correct shade of brown hair and the author describing the female leads as having green eyes. Her mother also had green eyes. While I personally have black relatives with green eyes, grey eyes and hazel ones, anyone seeing them knows that they are black. There is no reference to her skin tone or her being mixed race or anything. I felt like I was reading a Harlequin Romance novel like I used to read when I was a teenager where the heroine was white. I’m 64 years old and I want to read about a black female character. I couldn’t finish this book because I lost interest.
Mekena ran away from everything she knew and her love Rowan thinking he had betrayed her in the worst way. After trying to make it on her own she felt the pull to come home and her parents wanted to set her up for an arranged marriage. Unbeknownst to her and Rowan their parents got together and set them up to be married. Rowan has been obsessed with Mekena and he refused to date or see anyone else. To him Mekena was it. This story is full of a lot of push - pull and the chemistry is off the charts. This is so well-written and I enjoyed every moment of this story. There is also things that happen that keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a must read!!!
The author has delivered another delightful story that takes us into the lives of Rowan and Mekena. Years ago, she disappeared after Rowan leaked a photo of the man she loved. Now she's back because her parents have decided she must marry and have arranged a marriage with none other than Rowan. Can they get a second chance, and can Rowan, who has patiently waited for her all this time, prove that he didn't leak the photo and that he's the right man for her, the one she needs? A delightful second-chance-at-love story that you can't put down.
I received an Advance Reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
