A very good book dealing with emotions. Some of the emotions covered are depression, rejection, fear, loneliness, anger, disappointment, regret, unforgiving, and sorrow. When God created us we were created with human emotions. Each chapter gives not only the emotion discussed, but what we need to do practically to control that emotion at the end of each chapter. A very useful book for counseling and it is Bible centered.
This is rubber meets the road theology. This is where the Word of God cuts through all the lies and exposes the sin underlying our most destructive emotions and God’s path to forgiveness and reconciliation. Then it also releases us from the guilt and pain our sin causes us by explaining the beautiful comforting truth of God’s sovereignty and acceptance. It is a call to obey God even in when our hearts tell us it's impossible. It is organized as a study. I used it as a personal study, but it could easily be used in a group setting. There are twelve sections. The first two establish broad Biblical doctrines about emotions the actions required by those doctrines. The last ten cover love, depression, rejection, fear, loneliness, anger, disappointment, regret, bitterness, and sorrow. Each section is packed with Biblical exposition and examples. Then each ends with a series of Bible reading, questions, and suggested memorization to reinforce the lesson. I fully understand why it is not more popular. It exposes how society, philosophy, psychology, and our own desires all tell us to go one way and the Bible says go the other. Accepting that Biblical path looks so hard in comparison to the World’s, but the rewards are so much greater. So it calls us to actively follow that path. I would recommend everyone study this book, and maybe even have it on hand for a refresher every now and then. It is that good.
