As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Can I love this series any more? The answer is a resounding no.
At this point, I think every arc is just destined to outdo the last, and it's not even trying. Well, no, okay, that's unfair; each arc has their own unique mark that make each of them special, it's just that these last couple of arcs just are very intense, and that makes them feel more epic than any before, because of the weight of all the world building that they carry, and how flawlessly Oda executes each plot point.
What I can say without doubt, is that the last couple of arcs have felt more claustrophobic and impossible than any before. Elbaf, in particular feels like an insurmountable mountain, and is there a more fitting feeling for it?
Getting to know, really know, all these new characters has just given me more characters to love, because in a story with hundreds of characters that I already love, I definitely needed more; but, hey! Oda never misses the mark.

After all the leadup and foreshadowing, I really expected more out of God Valley. It was fine, it was perfectly acceptable, just underwhelming from a series that normally handles these payoffs well.
