Won't SOMEONE please explain how f-'ing commas work to Joshua Williamson? Seriously, it's getting embarrassing...

The artwork is amateurish, but the Jorge Fornés cover is really nice.

Picked this up as the prelude to DC KO, but it didn’t do much for me. The cover promises a big, dramatic swing, but inside it’s mostly setup and exposition with very little payoff. It reads more like laying the groundwork for the event than telling a compelling story on its own.

Honestly, it left me bored — not much really happens here, and if this issue is meant to sell me on DC KO, it didn’t succeed.

Very good.

DC is hitting on all cylinders right now. This is going to be epic. Great art and story. It is not oversized like it claims. It's only 28 pages. That is a regular sized comic. But good nonetheless.

Meh. Não acrescenta muito ao evento, também não funciona muito bem como história solo. Meio chatinho. É isso.

Now this feels like the proper prelude to the DC K.O. Event. I'm ready for the main event now...

Really solid setup special for the DC KO event. Really helps to put into perspective exactly how bad things are right now so we know what we are fighting for. But this story surprisingly starts back on Krypton, years before its destruction. We see Lara (Kal-El’s mother) and Ursa (general Zod’s wife), before taking any of their jobs, exploring some of the abandoned parts of Krypton. Specially a portion of the world from when Krypton worked with other worlds. It has since been left abandoned and destroyed by a monster. Translating it Ursa reads something about an “ultimate weapon,” and we see the designs for doomsday. As we jump to the present we check in on doomsday, who has now grown powerful enough to take up the mantle of the time trapper, and finds himself on the watchtower as the rest of the Justice league is called in to help decide the fate of the universe. Booster gold is back after the time trapper set Superman on a path with SuperBoy prime to get him back. He had hoped that bringing booster back would help the league to listen to him, especially with his less than ideal history with Superman. And booster is totally on his side, they know this is a big deal and they need to listen. But the trapper can’t help bjt remember what happened last time they were all on the watchtower together, the events that started all of this in the first place with Darkseid’s death and his omega energy being spread throughout the universe.

As the trapper looks over all the events that have unraveled since then. How darkseid left an absence in his wake and sent his very essence into the timeline. He can’t help but think of all of the heroes that have been too blind to see…darkseid has already won. Now time trapper is rethinking things, and beloved he should leave the events that have been setup to their natural fate. Booster is pretty astonished by this, he knows the other heroes are going to listen. But as booster goes over to talk to Superman about a game plan, maybe even using his energy signature as bait as they know the omega legion wants him…suddenly the world around him turns grey as the time trapper pauses time. The trapper explains that time itself is broken from the events with Grodd, but they can use the chronal and omega energy left inside booster to escape. WHAT?! Nah, booster immediately goes off on the trapper, these are the world’s greatest heroes and of anyone fan stop darkseid it’s them. Booster is from the future he knows they will win. The future…precisely, trapper decides to open up a portal and pull booster through to show him the future.

But as they are passing through they are not alone, Flash noticed trapper slowing down time and met his speed with them to follow them!! Hahahaha, that’s my boy! He is able to get through the portal with them, they just got booster back and aren’t loosing him that easily. Very well, that just means flash will be here as well to witness the end. The trapper brings them to the 853rd century, and the world is in flames. This should be home to the Justice legion Alpha. And they are here…but they are at war with Darkseid’s legion and things are not going well. Before our two heroes can step in and try and help, trapper pulls them back through time. He takes them across all the possible futures. We spot Komandi, Omac, and a whole slew of other possible futures…all being destroyed by Darkseid’s legion. Darkseid is. And they will continue to fight before turning their attention to the main timeline closest to Darkseid’s appearance. But booster isn’t ready to back down, he has faced them already and of the only way to stop darkseid is to bring them down, then bring it on! But it seems they won’t have long to wait, the legion has already found them and ripped a hole through time and space to get to their moment outside of time! I have to admit…that’s pretty hardcore.

But suddenly we go back to the past as we watch Lara and Ursa explore krypton. As they explore the ruins they are suddenly attacked by doomsday enhanced hounds that rip off Lara’s rocket pack. Ursa is able to scoop her up in time, but they don’t have enough power to get back to the surface. So instead they head down to the chambers underneath to try and escape. There they find a chamber full of artifacts from other worlds. Off tech contraband like wings from Thanagar, a lantern from Oa, and a giant engraved door with an omega symbol that reads something along the lines of “King omega.” But there is one thing that calls to Lara. A heart floating on its own off to the side, wires flow freely from it, and it glows yellow and whispers to her…”Darkseid is.” Suddenly Ursa pulls Lara out of her trance and they decide to get out of there ASAP. Once they get back to the doomsday hounds, they sacrifice the working rocket pack to cause a distraction so they can escape the other way. Once they got out they vowed to never speak of the place or risk being imprisoned.

As we jump back to our too lee through time, booster, flash, and the trapper are struggling to hold their own against the legion. Each one of them are struck down and captured one by one, as they promise to make booster a sacrifice to darkseid due to the power flowing inside of him. Booster grows angry, the omega energy inside of him causing his eyes to glow red, of they truly want this power…they can have it! Suddenly it a giant burst of energy, booster is able to throw all of the darkseid legion back! Leaving the time trapper stunned by his power and booster confused. Trapped realizes that he is one of the only beings to transverse time and the absolute and it has changed him and made him powerful, he could be the key to holding darkseid off. Which means we need to get back to the watchtower and Superman right NOW. But time trapper is worried, he is not sure he can navigate back through time. WELL, good thing flash is here! He has a bit of experience with being lost through time. The two are able to follow him as he super speeds a portal through time and back to the watchtower. But as they transverse time it looks off, broken, as if times itself was on fire and their minds are trying to make sense of the horrors of it. As they arrive back on the watchtower the trapper tried to point out that what he has shown them is proof that they will loose and their best option is to keep going backwards in time. Booster calls him out as a liar, there is something he isn’t telling them…something he is afraid of. The trapper claims he does not fear darkseid, he was created for this role and born to be a weapon. But he now sees that he is a weapon that must be armed by another…hmmmm, that’s an interesting statement. Booster tries to tell trapper that he has to tell the league everything he knows, they need to know what is coming. The trapper lets go of his control of time and lets things slip back into order. With everyone on the watchtower booster gets their attention so the trapper can take the floor. And suddenly we find ourselves back on krypton. Ursa and Lara got away…but Ursa took something, a piece from the ruins talking about the ultimate weapon, and thought maybe krypton could use it in the future. She hands it over to Lara for safe keeping, but when Lara reads it she realizes that Ursa mistranslated. It’s not talking about an ultimate weapon…it’s talking about an “absolute champion.” As the issue comes to a close we see the time trapper announcing that if they want to fight. And against darkseid…they have to work together. I know the premise of the dc KO event is a giant fight with everyone trying to accumulate darkseid energy. But is it really darkseid energy to take the top spot, or to get enough energy to super charge their weapon against darkseid…the time trapper? That line from the time trapper about he is a manufactured weapon against darkseid but must be armed by another…hmmmm.

This issue was enjoyable, but it doesn’t serve well as a true entry point for new readers, which is what it seems intended to be or at least a starting point for DC KO. The writing is strong and the story kept me hooked from start to finish, but without prior knowledge of the current Superman run, some important context feels missing. That gap might make it harder for newcomers to fully grasp the significance of what’s happening. On the positive side, the art is excellent, and the pacing makes it a quick, fun read that still manages to build excitement for the upcoming event.

So this is the second title in the KO reading list and it's starting to get somewhere! My biggest gripe with this issue is that it's following along two stories and I really prefer on focusing on one. The story itself was fun and I love how The Flash forced his way into it. We see bits of the future and Time Trapper starts explaining why he has come back, though he's sure Superman won't listen. I'm excited to see where we go next!

Booster Gold and the Time Trapper ( who is Doomsday now in current DC history ) attempt to gain the Justice League’s trust after both of them and the Flash witness many losing battles raging across the future in which Darkseid wins.
We get flashbacks to Krypton featuring Lara and Ursa investigating the site of an ultimate weapon guarded by vicious Doomsday looking dogs and bits and pieces of foreshadowing by Williams and company for the forthcoming DCKO event.

I tend to find preleude issues a miss. They don't do much for me to hype me for the main event. This one had some really good moments and effective splash pages with huge action shots. It got me excited for the event starting next week. As someone new to comics, this did a decent enough job establishing the plot and bringing me in. Some stuff was confusing but it wasn't too bad.

This is okay but will read better if read together with week 1 of K.O. There’s been a lot of alternate angles of the inciting event over the past month. I’d hold off till next week if you’ve yet to read it. Great art and cameos but very little necessity yet

I really enjoyed reading this issue of Justice League.
The storyline and artwork was fantastic. The
balance between the characters added to the overall
story. The Time Trapper gives a look into the future.

A good story and it gives a nice overview of what’s going to happen, but I’m getting huge overarching story fatigue. Hopefully it will be fun, and bring the Legion I actually liked back.

Kinda just table setting for DC KO but this does the job with some pretty art from Yasmin Putri. There are some fun surprises, too, with the scene from Krypton with Kara.

Really nice set up for this K.O. event. Makes the situation feel really desperate. I'm sure the event itself will not be on par with the Absolute stuff but maybe it is enjoyable.
