What she uncovers is anything but expected. With new allies by her side, Batgirl must lead a dangerous mission to the snowcapped peaks ofthe Himalayas, where a war is brewing and long-buried secrets are waiting to beunearthed. The truth won’t stay hidden forever…but some answers come at a cost—especially when Nyssa al Ghul is involved.
excited to see the next arc, however didn't appreciate how quick she was to call the jade tiger and bronze tiger and even shiva family. at this point I've been holding more grudge than cass has lol.
I have to agree with spoiler and Oracle this issue, it doe feel like Cass is balancing back into her old ways as she is desperately trying to atone for what she believes to be her sins, and do that by falling right into Nyssa Al Ghul’s hands with the promise of completing what her mother set out to do. Sigh, everyone’s parents are so messed up and it’s so funny to see Jade tiger over here blissfully unaware and unaffected. I do think that is a strength though, he provides the constant tug at Cass’ side challenging her every move. And she needs that more than ever now. But jumping straight into this issue we are thrown into the battle field as the league of shadows has captured a grandmaster of the unburied: Chodak the unbowed.
But as we jump over to check on Cass, the adventure is just getting started. And with every great adventure: there is a lot of walking, fighting, and more walking. As we pick back up from the previous storyline, she is now joined by the half brother she just found out about, Jade Tiger, and the daughter of her fallen friend Jayesh of the order of Shiva, Jaya Jayesh is now a member of the league of shadows and has recruited Cass to come and checkout how they have changed and ask for her help, only if she is willing to give it. As the trio travel all the way to the Himalayas they train together, Jaya even teaching Cass and Tenji the form Shiva mastered and Cass was never taught. But by night Cass spends her time in the nightmares of her past, and recent past with Shiva’s death, and she cries out for Shiva to be avenged. Cass has started to close herself off from the others, believing that they could not understand or help what she is going through because they haven’t experienced what she has. Cass is on the path of a dangerous pit she is about to fall into.
But as the trio trudge through snow, Jaya shows them the way by using a special medallion to reflect light and open the secret rock doors to Samsara. Tucked in between the mountains is a beautiful landscape aided by natural hot springs, and built up with pretty glorious architecture. Apparently Nyssa found it on ruins and rebuilt it. It has now become a refuge for anyone in need of healing, and peolle came from w over the world to join them. The league Cass knew would appear to be gone…but we still started this issue with a battlefield. Old habits, am I right? But what better way to show the league has truly become a place of healing, than to show someone from Cass’ past being healed. I have neglectfully still not read the 2000’s batgirl series, but the trip comes across Angel breaker training with a shape shifter. That shifter is Aruba Shende, who batgirl mer all the way back in batgirl annual #1. 25 years ago!! That’s awesome! After their encounter when batgirl helped them, they still felt lost…until Nyssa found them and helped them fond a home here and a whole lot of self help books. Tenji on the other hand is not ss swayed, when poked a bit for being so “green,” he promises to challenge any one of them and will be the world’s greatest hero just like Cass. Cass obviously has to draw him back a lot this issue, lol.
But the time finally came, and Nyssa came to them. Cass pushes her past the small talk to talk about what she wants. Nyssa talks about what got them here, the collation of forces Shiva tried to form and was literally derailed. Working together was never going to work, but what Nyssa wants is what is currently around them. To keep what she built, but she is constantly attacked by the unburied that seek to destroy Samsara. She is not her father and is tired of dealing with his sins, so what she truly wants is for the two of them to help each other. Cass wants Justice for her mother’s murder after all, right? Tenji is immediately against the idea, major no go on working with villains. But he really isn’t in a place to decide anything here. And from what position can batgirl judge? When she was brainwashed in the 2006 Robin series, she attempted to assassinate Nyssa with a car bomb, and her Nyssa survived and found herself here when everyone else thought she was dead. The unburied are tenacious, but not invincible. Their power relies on the blue poppies, and if they can destroy their stash it will take too much time to cultivate outside the snowy mountains that surround them. Time and conditions they don’t have. They can end this war without any bloodshed. Suddenly the wall next to them explodes as Chodak the unbowed escapes! Earlier Nyssa was talking about how she was ripped apart and no longer feels pain due to what they did to her at Dachau. I’m not exactly sure what that is referencing, but good thing she didn’t feel it when Chodak smashed her into the ground. But Cass once again held Tenji back then moved in with grace and precision with her mothers sword as she slashed at very specific points on Chodak’s body, taking him down to the ground in no time flat. Tenji can only stand there with a face of impressed horror as Nyssa knows they have who they need and Cass agrees to help them stop the unburied.

Interesting. I feel like Cass’s role in the Batfam is often the role that Tenji is taking now— “heroes don’t work with villains.” Cass usually, however, has good judgment. I trust she knows what she’s doing.
This was a lot of set up and explanation for what is to come but I LOVED the part with Stephanie and Barbara checking in on Cass. Like those girls care so much about each other and I just loved those few panels so much 🥹

excited about the new arc, annoyed by the Jade tiger. He is overconfident and thinks he knows everything, and has no issues with deciding and speaking for his sister, who he has only just met... doesn't bode well for him.
A new arc starts and I am very intrigued to see how Cassie and Nyssa work together. I really enjoy Cassie as a character and her blend of kicking butt and working to be a good person.
the training to heal was one not easily given to most people, let alone people who had to do things to survive that are not becoming of civilized people.
