'I miss pasta, pizza, creamy tiramisu, and sweet gelato. Life is hard for an Italian chef who’s secretly a vampire. All day I work with heavenly food, but I can only stomach blood. What’s even worse than my thirst, though, is my hunger for love. And that’s awakened when she steps into my restaurant.'
Eudipsia - Memoirs of a Lonely Vampire is a story about longing, loneliness and hunger. A tragic comedy, set in Italy, about a vampire working in a restaurant.
My last book of 2025! It was a short story but I enjoyed it a lot! In the book we follow Tonio who is a vampire. But he is not your usual bloodsucker on a killing spree, he is actually a chef in an Italian restaurant in Pisa!
Due to being a vampire he can only drink blood, but if there would be one wish that he wants to come true is being able to taste food and drink some coffee! He buys his blood from a supplier and lives a lonely life and trying not to put any attention on his personal life.
He enjoys working in the restaurant, but when a regular, a pretty woman, starts to show interest, he is freaking out, because obviously how can you tell a normal person you are a vampire. They hang out for a bit, but Tonio is too afraid she can't handle the truth.
This story is all about longing for a normal life, being lonely, and always being hungry, it's kind of funny, but also tragic. And it makes you think about what would you do if you end up being a vampire, who just wants to be human again?
