Fake dating your best friend. Starring in the musical you wrote together as kids. Falling for the one person you thought you’d lost forever.
Welcome to winter in Sugar Pine.
Morgan Bradley is coming home for the holidays—jobless, heartbroken, and clinging to the hope that she’s not completely washed up. Her Broadway dreams and her relationship with pop sensation Patrick Sterling have both gone cold. But Sugar Pine, Colorado, isn’t just where Morgan goes to heal. It’s where she finds a chance to save her family’s struggling theater—and maybe herself—by staging Bohemian Winter, the show she started writing years ago with her childhood best friend, Max.
Max Thompson has never stopped loving Morgan—or writing music for her. So when she walks back into his life with big dreams and a broken heart, he says yes. To the musical. To pretending they’re a couple in front of her famous ex. And maybe, secretly, to one last chance at something real.
But faking love has a way of making real feelings impossible to hide. As the snow falls and opening night nears, Morgan and Max must decide if they’re writing a story that ends on stage—or one that’s only just beginning.
Heart-melting, hilarious, and full of musical-theater magic, My Winter Song to You is a friends-to-lovers holiday romance with slow-burn longing, backstage drama, and an unforgettable grand finale.
Perfect for fans of Carley Fortune, Emily Henry, and Abby Jimenez.

My Winter Song To You written by Laurel Osterkamp was such a sweet and heart warming Christmas read, although this book takes place during the months of October through December- which are also known as the chilly months, my heart felt so warm from this feel good Christmas romance book. My Winter Song To You was sweet, emotional, inspiring, festive, heart warming, adorable, and Christmassy. I have had the privilege to read and review a few books for Laurel, which I have absolutely adored, but when I saw she had a new Christmas book coming out, I was so antsy and excited to get my hands on this festive book, because as many of you know by now, I am the queen of Christmas books. As excited as I was to have the honor to read this book early, I can report that it did NOT disappoint. I loved the setting, the plot, the atmosphere, the characters, and of course Laurel's beautiful writing style, she just has a way of making your heart feel so full of love. If you are looking for a fun, emotional, and festive Christmas story, please please be sure to mark your calendars for November 13th, 2025 because you won't want to miss out on the newest release from Laurel.

"💔🎤Can I sing a song that reveals the broken person I have become?💔🎤"
"💗True love stories never have endings💗".
Morgan Bradley is coming back home to Sugar Pine, Colorado for the holidays- heart broken and jobless. Morgan and her pop sensation boyfriend Patrick Sterling were supposed to spend Christmas through New Years in Maui, Hawaii, but Patrick decides to break Morgan's heart and says he wants them to go their separate ways, he basically kicks Morgan to the curb, he kicked her out of his apartment with less than a twenty-four hours notice, so Morgan decides to return home with a broken heart and her Broadway dreams crushed. When Morgan arrives home, she finds out that her family's theater company- Sugar Pine Rep is struggling to keep their doors open and they need an original play to keep the theater from going under the ropes, they are also having money issues, so now they need a sold out show to keep their doors open. Morgan has a theater degree from New York University, so anything is possible for her, but it's just that her dreams of starring in Broadway are in shambles because she kinda had no way without Patrick, but if you read this book you will see what happens. Despite being away in New York for her theater degree, Colorado will always be home for Morgan.
Max Thompson is a musical genius, a singer, and a actor. Max fell from a roof while he was working in construction one day and injured his leg which caused him to now have a prosthetic leg. Max suffers from pain, grief, and mounting medical bills which have ruined his college plans and he abandoned writing music. When it comes to musical inspiration, Max is such a hoarder because he has lyrics written everywhere and little keepsakes that inspire his lyrics. Now that Max had to put his musical career on hold, he works as a claims processor at Three Rivers Insurance in Durango, Colorado. Max is such a sweetheart, but his mispronunciation of certain words was just the cutest thing ever, when he tried to say specifically but it came out as pacifically, ugh it was just so adorable and made me giggle. Max also has a golden retriever and cocker spaniel mix named Camilla, but she was born with three and a half legs, so she's perfect for Max and literally is companion. Camilla was such a cutie pie, I love how Max was still able to take her on walks despite being short one leg, they both never let their injuries define who they are or made them any less than who they are. Max also uses humor as a defense mechanism when he gets uncomfortable.
Morgan and Max met when they were just six years old at a Pirates and Mermaids Musical Theater Camp that Morgan's parents hosted. Max gave Morgan the nickname Mork from a TV show- Mork and Mindy. Morgan and Max began writing a musical called Bohemian Winter when they were just twelve years old, but it was never finished because Morgan went to New York to pursue her theater career and Max stayed behind in Colorado, but now that Morgan is home for the holidays, can she and Max finally finish the musical that they started many years ago? Well, they start where they left off, but Morgan's dad drops the bomb that he wants to use Morgan and Max's play to save the family theater, but Max and Morgan have one condition, they have to fake date each other to get a celebrity actor on board to star in their musical since the lead actor went somewhere else. They also continue their couple pet names while they are in this fake dating scheme, Morgan is Mork and Max is Mindy. To complete their musical, Morgan wants a song of a winter ballad, but it has to be a declaration of love, a plea for forgiveness, and a quest for hope. Can Max and Morgan put their past behind for right now, and fake date to make sure their musical gets down in time for Christmas to save her family's theater? I just loved watching their plans play out, they were just so cute together.
A sweet christmas romance about two best friends that decide to do a remaging musical of The winter´s tale and fake dating in process. I enjoy the small town vibes, the love of Morgan for write for theatre and Max passion for music. Also I think is so great that they start that musical when their kids and still want to do it in adults. They really the perfect duo, they prefectly bond to art. But I thought all their love story mess up. Most miscomunication. And Morgan was a little to blind for the charm of Patrick, he was always a jerk and she did not see how he hurt her friend. I love all the parts about saving the theater and Camille (the best buddy that Max could have).
A Heartwarming Holiday Romance Full of Music and Second Chances
My Winter Song to You is a sweet, small-town romance about coming home, rediscovering dreams, and finding love where it’s always been. When Morgan returns to Sugar Pine after her Broadway dreams fall apart, she reunites with her childhood best friend, Max, to save her family’s struggling theater and ends up fake dating him to keep up appearances. But as rehearsals heat up and feelings resurface, pretending becomes harder than either of them expected.
This story perfectly captures the magic of second chances and the cozy, nostalgic pull of coming home. I loved the musical theater elements woven throughout and the way Morgan and Max’s chemistry grew with every scene. Total scene-stealer. This one will make you smile, swoon, and maybe even hum a few show tunes.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ahead of its release.
thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ahead of its release 🫶🏼
this novel is truly heartwarming and sweet. even though it was chilly october–cold december in Sugar Pine, i felt warm throughout my read! it was an easy and enjoyable story, but the best thing about it is the characters—they’re so well-written, and i absolutely love them 🥹 Mork and Max have so much depth, and their connection feels so real
My Winter Song to You is a warm and cozy small-town romance that’s so easy to fall into. Morgan and Max’s connection feels genuine, and their chemistry builds in such a sweet, natural way. The wintry setting, the music, the nostalgia, it all fits perfectly.
✅My thoughts: Sugar Pine is the perfect town… Morgan and Max are the perfect characters… Friends to lovers aspect was perfect… The holiday spirit was perfect… By now have you noticed a pattern? My Winter Song to You is a beautiful Christmas read that is perfect 😍
A wintery romance featuring childhood friends to lovers, fake dating, theatre, and a three-legged dog.
Morgan "Mork" Bradley feels forced to return to her hometown after her hotshot actor boyfriend, Patrick Sterling, dumps her with no warning. When she returns to Sugar Pine, Colorado, Morgan learns that her parent's theatre is going bankrupt. In a final attempt to save the business, Morgan turns to her childhood best friend, Max Thompson, and asks him to continue writing the musical they started when they were children. Willing to do anything for the girl he has loved for forever, Max agrees to speed finish and put on the production before the New Year. Unfortunately, they need someone to play the lead and Patrick is the perfect man for the job. With Patrick back in Sugar Pine, Morgan's feelings grow complicated and she accidently tells Patrick that she is dating Max when she is confronted by him. A fake dating scheme ensues all so the show must go this holiday season.
I have been excited to read this one for a while now. I tried out the first novella set in the town of Sugar Pine and was greatly intrigued by Osterkamp's writing. I am glad to say I enjoyed this holiday novel more than I did the first book in this series of stand alone romances.
I am a huge fan of theatre romances, so that was definitely the part I enjoyed most about this one. I found it so cute that Morgan and Max started writing a musical retelling of Shakespeare's "A Winter's Tale" at the age of twelve. The fact that they endeavor to finish it when they are twenty-eight is so endearing and wholesome; I truly ate up all the scenes that they worked on it together.
Morgan has many regrets about her life, which is something that most people can relate to. She decides to go to college in New York, which took her away from her best friend at a pivotal moment in his life and her family's struggling business. Picking a college to attend is truly a life changing decision, and many things often fall through the cracks when one first moves away from their hometown. Again, experiences that many people can see themselves in.
Morgan also has to deal with the baggage that is her ex-boyfriend, Patrick. This man is truly a piece of work and it made me want to puke almost any time he interacted with Morgan. He is so not worth it, and it saddens me that Morgan couldn't see that she deserved more in life than a man that treated her as a tool in his belt for most of this novel.
Max had huge dreams to go to Juilliard and hone his skills as a musician and writer. However, he got in a terrible accident right before he was supposed to leave and ended up having to get one of his legs amputated. This obviously put his life on hold and was a major factor in causing Morgan and Max's relationship to deteriorate further. Not as relatable of an experience, but I think we all know how hard it is to have a dream crushed or feel too far out of reach.
With Max still being hung up on Morgan and feeling as though he is financially and physically unable to pursue his dreams, Max's life has mostly consisted of him working at an insurance firm and hanging out with his three-legged dog, Camilla. It is also pretty common for people to feel as though their dreams are unattainable and start to coast through life, rather than life it to its fullest.
Speaking of Camilla, I think it was pretty cool how Max adopted a dog that was born with three legs because he related to her so much. This was a sweet way for the author to showcase how Max is healthily dealing with his trauma at this point in his life, even though he still has his insecurities. And plus, she's a pretty darn cute addition to this story.
Morgan and Max eventually remedy many of their issues and insecurities that they have before this novel is over. They also do a great job of paving a steady path for the future of their relationship as well as their career goals. This book is a cozy romance that definitely gives me hope as a reader that dreams can come true and that the perfect love match can naturally occur.
Another thing I found neat about this one is that it is part of a stand alone series of interconnected romances that all take place in the same town. Annabelle, the architect from the first novella, is Morgan's friend, and helps her through the third act conflict in this one. Penny, one of Max's friends, is featured quite a bit in this book and has her own novella (that I will be reading very soon). I enjoyed seeing familiar faces and being hyped up to read future installments both at the same time.
Max and Morgan's relationship is sweet and natural. I am a huge fan of childhood friends to lovers romances due to the characters having so much chemistry at the beginning of the book. This one is also a closed-door romance, which was so refreshing. I've been reading quite a few hot and heavy holiday reads lately, so it was nice to read a wholesome romance without all that spice where the characters connect on a deeper level than just physical attraction and lust.
Overall, "My Winter Song to You" is a really sweet holiday romance with some great tropes such as childhood friends to lovers and fake dating that featured awesome things such as theatre and a three-legged dog. I was a huge fan of Morgan and Max's relationship and definitely look forward to seeing them as side characters in future installments of this series. It has super relatable adult circumstances and touches on great themes such as remedying the things that one regrets and seizing the things one wants most in life. I would definitely recommend this one if you are a fan of wholesome, clean romances! I'm looking forward to exploring more of Osterkamp's work in the near future!
Final Rating: 2 ⭐️ Spice Rating: Makeouts/Closed Door scenes 💋🚪🌶️
Summary: When Morgan is dumped by her boyfriend and learns that her parent’s business is failing, Morgan teams up with her friend Max to finish a musical they started as children in an effort to save the place they love.
Review Characters: ⭐️⭐️ This was the most frustrating book I have ever read with the most mind boggling batch of characters. To start, we have the FMC Morgan Bradley. She had so much potential, but the writing kept her from it. She could’ve been a good story for standing up for yourself and speaking your mind, but she never really did. It was so clear to me that almost everyone in her life manipulates her. She only ever called out her ex, but it was few and far between. His villainy was so dominating in this book that she just continued to let certain things slide. Her family? THE WORST. The way they treated her about the show and she never called them out was so infuriating. For the MMC, Max, he was better, but still infuriating. For his side, it was mostly Morgan that he let walk all over him. He was also another casualty of how prominent Morgan’s ex’s evilness was in this story. The author let him go on for way too long and the other characters suffered for it. The best way to describe these characters is messy, and not in a fun or good way.
Romance: ⭐️⭐️ I’m unsure why I should’ve rooted for this couple. They were very toxic in my opinion and had too much control over the other’s emotional well-being. It also made no sense to me that it took so long for them to be together. It felt like the author just kept doing dramatic thing after dramatic thing to keep them apart even if it wasn’t needed or didn’t make sense. As they were, they honestly had no business ending up together.
Storyline: ⭐️⭐️ The storyline was promising, which is why I read this to begin with, but the execution was just not good. All of the characters were insufferable at least once in the book, but most of them the whole book. The romance didn’t work, and as I stated previously, it just felt like a bunch of dramatic moments thrown together without any real reason and it just didn’t work. I really was hoping for better with this book.
Writing/Pacing: ⭐️⭐️ In my opinion, the writing was kind of a mess. Not in a hard to read way, just in an aggravating way. Morgan’s ex had way too much reign over the story and Morgan herself for way too long. It got to a point where it felt like the story was more about him than anyone else, and honestly? With the toxicity between Max and Morgan and their self sabotage, a villain wasn’t even really needed. Nothing in the writing made me want to see the school or company or whatever it’s called be saved because the parents were annoying and manipulative. It was also hard to care about Max and Morgan’s play because of all their drama too. The writing just failed to give me an enjoyable story with enjoyable characters and relationships.
Overall: ⭐️⭐️ Overall, I was incredibly disappointed with this read. I’m honestly quite surprised it has as high of a rating as it does, but hey, I will never fault someone for enjoying something. I will say that the book was weirdly addicting, but I think it’s because the characters were just so exasperating that I had to know how it ended. This book just didn’t hit with me at all unfortunately.
Morgan Bradley having being slung out on her ear a blow by her fella who she thought was her real deal forever after deal but he was just a heel thought too up his own ass to know it…is heading home to her best friend on whom she can depend . He calls her Mork but he’s no dork and the explanation is cute and there really is no substitute as to how he’s always felt but such is the cards that they were dealt. Her mom suggests that they revive the production they started writing when they were young ,him the music her the prose but Max Thompson is taken aback . Of course he wants her back but he has a secret to do with her ex Patrick Sterling that he can’t reveal nor squeal because of a clause . But is this their ever after going to be stopped by this misdemeanour just because Patrick is a big fat ugly deceiver who never did deserve her. Her family is a long line of talent ,they even own a theatre that’s struggling truth be told . So when the two best friends make their Bohemian Winter that they were always writing an exciting production debut together and starring in it too phew 😮💨 and it’s to be shown at the very theatre that her family owns . Patrick coming out from under the stone he should’ve never left leaves her not bereft but happy because she got to be where she longed to be in a man’s arms and safe and secure … even though it’s a fake romance that she wholeheartedly wishes was the real deal forever after sure. Be careful what you wish for because it may just come true and there’s an happy ever after on the cards for you … Wonderful book and of how long it took but was no chore ,because this epic story is the best in my book just so you know I was engaged with each and every page and encore ,a job well done .Laurel Osterkamp , I enjoyed this one. Thanks to Hawthorne & Aster for my copy of this great book . Why not go read for yourself ,take a look ,it’s on bookshelves now I’ll brook.
This is a lovely book that immediately drew me in and touched my heart. It is a story of friendship, support, insecurity, and learning to follow your own path. Max and Morgan have been best friends forever but they have been keeping secrets. Now to save the Sugar Pine Repertory, Morgan’s family business, they need to finish writing Winter Bohemian, the musical they started as teenagers in time for a New Year’s Eve debut. They also need star power to sell tickets and that means Patrick, Morgan’s very recent ex. In order to not make it seem like Morgan wants him back Morgan and Max decide to fake date. I have to say that fake dating done right makes me anxious, especially between best friends. I worry are they going to mess up, say something they don’t mean because they think they should, are they ever going to admit true feelings? Max and Morgan fake dating is definitely fake dating done right and I could not turn the pages fast enough! The characters are well written and interesting and I was very invested in Morgan and Max. The town of Sugar Pine and the Sugar Pine Repertory are the perfect setting for this story, with snow and Christmas events that set a holiday mood. The mixing of Shakespeare with a modern musical had me reaching for my Shakespeare to learn more and wanting the musical to be a real thing. Every time a read a book by Laurel Osterkamp I finish with a happy heart and wanting to read more. There is so much to love in this book! I highly recommend this book to readers that enjoy stories that mix literature with romance and characters trying to find their own path.
Thanks to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
MY THOUGHTS - This isn't your typical "friends to lovers" trope. This was a "friends to lovers/ fake dating/ love triangle" trope! Actually, it wasn't even as simple as love triangle... more like a love square! I have to admit, I do like the fake dating one the best.
They were trying so hard to stay "just friends" but their feelings kept getting in the way. Fake dating is bound to switch to real dating eventually... right? Either that, or just ruin everything!
All I kept thinking about while reading this book was pulling the petals off of a daisy. He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, I love him, I love him not, I love him. This book was so back-and-forth, it almost drove me a little nuts... almost! Hmm, I think it may have been just the right amount of petal pulling.
I really liked the characters! Morgan aka Mork LOL. She was real to me. I liked her. I could have been her friend. Max, I really liked Max. I think he was my favorite. Which is different for me. I usually like the female MC best. And then you have the jerk ex. the author did a great job of making me not like him. And lastly, the insignificant other that Max was kind of seeing-ish.
I liked this one. It didn't thrill me, but I liked it. It kept my interest and I really did want to find out what was going to happen. I just think I'm more of a thriller/romantic suspense type person. Heavy on the suspense, light on the romance LOL. But this was definitely worth the read.
I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from the author, Laurel Osterkamp. Thank You!
This is a holiday, friends to fake dating, to lovers book. Max and Morgan have been best friends since they were six years old. They shared a common love of theatre- him creating musical scores and her the script. But years pass, Max suffers from a serious injury that changes his future, and miles as well as other relationships separate the pair until present time when Morgan visits her family again during the holidays, getting roped into finishing a project with Max that stirs up old feelings.
For a little negative feedback, Max and Morgan’s lack of communication and flippant comments which accidentally hurt each other are frustrating to read, and yet are so real life.
I was also a little annoyed with Penny’s role in the book. She missed ques Max was giving and made things more difficult for him. I am still not convinced if she was a friend or doing this on purpose.
Positives from reading the book: The story unfolds well, where at first you know there is more to the story and then the author shows you by dual POV’s, both in the present and past tense.
Morgan and Max are both lovable characters with real life flaws yet strength of character, you find yourself rooting for their happy ending if they are only brave enough to be honest.
Overall an enjoyable read, once some communication was finally worked on. Spice level is maybe a one? There is one slightly descriptive scene. Thank you for the arc Hidden Gems Books and Laurel Osterkamp, this review is voluntary.
My thoughts 💭 Thank you for the opportunity and letting me read this arc. This was such a cute cozy read. Just in time for the holiday season. I thought the characters well executed and the story line was great. I don’t read too much friends to lovers but this story was put together. It pulled at my heart strings during some moments. This book wasn’t spicy at all which to be honest it didn’t need it. It did really well without it. I loved the fake dating. The chemistry between them, the slow burn. I really like more of the slow burn when it’s descriptive saying how this person is making them feel. It was a pretty easy read. I finished it in a day, fast paced and short chapters. With there being a manipulative character, there’s bound to be some drama and it kept me reading. Loved that it had some theater throughout the book as Morgan is a screen writer and Max is the composer of the music, while Patrick is basically the star/actor.
Who should read this? Any fans of friends to lovers, fake dating, small town and musical fans. Like to read cozy winter books with no spice.
I really enjoyed getting to read this romance set in Sugar Pine. Yes, there is romance, but there’s so much more. Family and friends are a big part of this group of main characters and it shows. Morgan returns home heartbroken, but she smiles big when she sees Max, her best friend. They had plans to go to college in New York, but Max’s plans were derailed when he was in a work accident, in which he lost his foot. When they were younger they started writing a screenplay together. Will they ever finish it? Morgan learns Sugar Pine Rep is in trouble. They need a big production to put them back on top. I guess it’s time to finish that screenplay. When main actor quits, Morgan calls her ex, Patrick, to help them out. Morgan and Max decide to fake date, so Patrick won’t think she wants him back. Of course, we know this isn’t going to go how they think. I won’t tell how everything plays out, but I will say there’s a few secrets that will be revealed. Grab your copy and get ready to end up with a smile on your face.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I don't remember the last time I read a book so quickly! This was such a sweet and heartwarming holiday romance! It was so refreshing, and definitely more depth with references to Shakespeare and 80s pop culture. If you enjoy going to the theater and musicals, this one is especially for you!
Morgan Bradley is returning home to Sugar Pine for the holidays, heartbroken and without a job. Upon arriving home, she discovers her family’s theater company is struggling and she may be able to save it, along with her childhood best friend, Max Thompson. They just need to complete the musical they started as children—Bohemian Winter, a modern day take of Shakespeare’s The Winter Tale.
I was so fascinated by the references to lesser known The Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare—part comedy, part tragedy, it’s a unique tale of redemption. Besides the fun and magical theater setting, the humor was well written, and I felt like it was easy to connect to the characters. I would highly recommend this as a quick and comforting read to read on a cold day!

Laurel Osterkamp’s My Winter Song to You is an enchanting tale that melds the magic of musical theater and the healing power of love. Morgan Bradley’s return to Sugar Pine, Colorado, is driven by a desire to breathe new life into her family’s struggling theater and reconnect with her roots. But then there is Max, the man who wrote her songs and has loved her all along. Morgan has just had a bad relationship experience and is still reeling from the heartache. And Max provides the support she needs to start over again. But does Max have a second chance with her? Osterkamp’s characters are sophisticated and elaborately developed; Morgan’s emotional scars and Max’s unwavering devotion create a compelling dynamic that explores themes of friendship, unfulfilled dreams, and the importance of community. The plot’s centerpiece—the staging of Bohemian Winter—is a metaphor for rebirth and hope. With lyrical prose and a narrative that alternates between Morgan and Max’s perspectives, the story feels intimate and authentic. This is the best gift you’d gift anyone for Christmas.
My Winter Song to You by Laurel Osterkamp is a captivating holiday romance that beautifully captures the dynamics of a naunced love, ambition, and self-acceptance. Morgan Bradley’s return home is fraught with emotional turmoil—her dreams of Broadway have dimmed, and her relationship with a pop star has fizzled out. Osterkamp excels at portraying Morgan’s inner strength amid her vulnerability, making her a relatable heroine. Max, her childhood friend and musical collaborator, embodies patience and unwavering support, adding layers of warmth and authenticity to the story. The plot revolves around their effort to revive the theater and their shared musical project, which becomes a poignant symbol for hope and renewal. Themes of forgiveness—both of oneself and others—are woven seamlessly into the narrative, emphasizing that sometimes love requires taking risks. The book’s lyrical language and heartfelt characterizations create an emotional tapestry that resonates deeply, making it an ideal holiday read for fans of heartfelt, character-driven romances.
I was lucky enough to receive an advance reader copy of My Winter Song To You from the author.
This book is a charming and heartwarming holiday read that perfectly captures the magic of the season. I really enjoyed this cozy and cute story-it's filled with festive cheer, a sweet friends-to-lovers romance and just enough drama. The Christmas theme was wonderfully done without being overly sentimental, and the fake dating storyline added a fun dramady twist that kept things engaging. I appreciated the family elements woven throughout. It's a quick, feel-good read that's easy to get lost in-perfect for a cozy winter afternoon. Laurel Osterkamp delivers warmth, humor, and heart in equal measure. This book would be the perfect choice for fans of holiday romances and the friends to lovers trope.
It is always exciting to win a Goodreads giveaway but there is pressure, however all opinions are my own. What I liked about this book, I liked a lot. I loved it being set in Colorado during the holidays in a cute small town. I love the idea of a modern adaptation of a play by Shakespeare, especially one not known as well. I didn’t know much about backstage theater work and found the idea of vision boards and research from a standpoint of both history and based on text. I loved the longing and felt it came from both Max and Morgan equally.
I hated how long the miscommunication trope went on and I kept needing to pause out of second hand embarrassment. I would have loved for that storyline to tie up sooner and for there to much more groveling, more open door spicy scenes, and maybe more of seeing into how Mork and Max’s current relationship will work as they find a rhythm to it.
Thank you Laurel for sharing this ARC with me, these are my personal thoughts and review
My winter song to you is a small town romance. Our main FMC is blindsided by her boyfriend when he’s tells her he needs “space” and she needs to leave his apartment. Short on options Morgan Bradley returns to her hometown, to her family and to her childhood bestie Max. But things are more dire at home than Morgan realises and together with Max they must save the day…and they might also need the help of newly ex-boyfriend Patrick. (What could go wrong I wonder?)
I enjoyed reading this book especially going back and learning more about the characters past and how they come to be.

I absolutely loved this sweet theatre friends to lovers romance! Two best friends from the very start with the kind of connection that just feels right!! you could tell love was always brewing between them.
Morgan was such a beautiful soul. I felt so much through her her forgiveness, her softness, her quiet strength. And Max… I was obsessed with how deeply he cared for her. The way he just wanted her to be happy and truly taken care of melted me.
This story was heartwarming, tender, and somehow just kept getting better the further I read. Thank you so much to Laurel Osterkamp for the ARC of this beautiful book!! I adored every page.
My Winter Song is a beautiful testament of second chances, forgiveness and redemption. As a girlie who fell for her best friend myself, I loved that the right guy got the girl. The banter and the level of comfort between Morgan and Max truly had me swooning. The care for her, his desire to make her happy had me falling for Max myself. This book, the characters, the plot is the perfect winter romance. All I wanted to do was curl up pretend I had a front row seat in SPR, the stage set on Max and Mork's Love Story.
Thank you to Laurel and her for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you're looking for a small town, second chance, friends to lovers romance, with a theatre and holiday vibe, this is a great one! Morgan and Max are two peas in a pod, but after a misunderstanding years ago they drifted apart slightly and are thrown back together when Morgan returns home to help save her family's small town theatre. I loved the musical aspect of this novel and how Morgan really had to develop as a person in an effort to put herself first. I loved the adorable dog and hated her ex! He was seriously the worst and no one can tell me otherwise. This had all of the cozy vibes you'd want in a holiday novel and it was perfect to read curled up under a blanket. All the stars!
I read this book in one day and I completely loved it. Morgan and Max were best friends, and their connection was so real and heartwarming. I loved how the friends to lovers story slowly built with fake dating and lots of tender moments. The characters were strong and well written, especially Morgan with her quiet strength and Max with his caring nature. It was a fast, easy, and enjoyable read that pulled at my heart. Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
What a cozy and heartwarming holiday romance! Morgan and Max’s story is the perfect blend of friendship, slow-burn chemistry, and festive charm. Their connection felt so genuine—it’s the kind of friends-to-lovers journey that makes you believe in love all over again. I adored watching their relationship grow through fake dating, sweet moments, and plenty of heartfelt emotion.
Morgan’s quiet strength and Max’s gentle, caring nature made them such a lovable pair. This was a quick, feel-good read that left me smiling long after the last page.
This was a beautiful story about second chances and finding romance over the holiday season. It is heart warming and sweet and Morgan and Max were such wonderful characters I fell in love with them from the beginning. I am addicted to small town romance stories and I will forever treasure this delightful story and these books always get me in the Christmas spirit. A perfect book to read curled up with the fire going to put a smile on your face. Laurel Osterkamp is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
This book tells a touching story about two people who are trying to find their way back to each other while facing fear and doubt. Their scenes are filled with gentle tension and soft emotion as they slowly open up and learn to trust what they feel. The author gives each moment heart and clarity so you can understand why the characters hold back and why they still keep hoping. The ending brings everything together in a sweet and satisfying way that shows real love and growth. It is an easy and enjoyable read that earns a solid four stars
This was a cute read. Perfect for winter. I instantly hated the ex boyfriend, Patrick. Some of the tension between Morgan and Max had me wanting to scream "JUST TELL THE PERSON YOUR FEELINGS!!" 🤣 I felt really bad when the flashback to Max's accident was revealed, and knowing his feelings, I couldn't imagine how low he felt at that point. Yet he was always there for Morgan. He was such a loyal friend to her.
