This is book two of ten in the ‘Heather King Suspense Thriller’ series. In this instalment, Heather assists on another murder case, but this one is particularly strange. The victims are people the killer sees as threats the past. This could be someone advocating for modernisation. He detests changes to old farms or buildings, especially those supporting solar panels.
The killer’s targets range from documentary makers to car enthusiasts updating their vehicles. He’s precise, intelligent and not only kills them but also dresses them in vintage clothes and poses them as if they’re supporting the very thing they oppose. His attention to detail is impeccable.
Heather has encountered similar scenes before. She’s seen the other deputy’s envy and the digs thrown her way when she’s relied on her instincts. When a she suggests a stake-out which offers no leads, her other deputies are rubbing their hands together.
However, Heather refuses to give up. She finds herself in a dangerous situation with backup due to arrive later than she would like, she knows she should wait for backup. Despite the odds, she chooses to proceed and try to save a life.
The downside for me is that I hope this doesn’t happen again, where she goes off on her own when she needs to work as a team. The plus side is that the books are not overly long at around 210 pages and pack a lot into them. I’ll continue with the series.
