A beautiful story of two people who are living under the expectation of others, while trying to make themselves independent.
She determined not to follow her mother’s path, and perform tasks that were useful, rather than being at the mercy of others.
He was trying to keep to a promise made to a vengeful grandfather, and survive under his father’s shadow, while needing to express himself individually.
Against all norms, she wants to be his apprentice, learning dressmaking skills from him.
He recognizes her talents, but is pressured by the Guild to keep her from learning.
Circumstances bring them together, but the Guild still looms large in the situation. The death of his father seems to be a turning point for them both as they navigate through life.

This is a well worked love story detailing the struggles of a woman, Meg, to learn tailoring and dressmaking and then to establish her own business. The tailor she apprentices with then loses a wager and is honourably bound to send a series of valentines to… Meg! The book illustrates the tight control a guild has on its members and therefore how difficult it is for a woman to work and gain acceptance. It also explores how vulnerable a woman is without the protection of family making this a worthwhile read.

I really enjoyed this sweet book that not only had a wonderful clean romance, but also contained a lot of interesting research into the history of fabrics and dyes during the early to mid Georgian era. The theme of this story centered around forgiveness and the character growth, especially regarding ethics and honesty, that occurred in the lives of the main characters. There was a lot of flowery language that didn’t seem like it would really take place in real life, but otherwise the story felt realistic! I received an ARC copy and this is my review.

The Gentlewoman Apprentice is a beautifully written and immersive story that swept me away from the very first chapter. Emily Opal has created a vivid historical world filled with rich detail, and her characters shine with authenticity and heart. The heroine’s journey was inspiring, her strength and resilience making her both relatable and unforgettable. The pacing kept me engaged throughout, and the emotional depth gave the story real staying power.

This is a beautiful love story of the trials of a woman in England in the early 1800s. Although this is a continuation in some ways of previous books in the series, you do not need to read those in order to enjoy and love this book. I really enjoyed entering the different world of tailors and dressmaking versus other Georgian/Regency novels. I honestly did not want the book to end. Thank you for the advanced copy. I look forward to more books by Emily Opal.

I enjoyed this book. It is well written with good character development. Meg's life was complicated because of her background. The drama in the story was mostly due to both of them not being totally honest with each other. It went on a bit longer than I would have liked before they finally were honest and understood their hearts.

The author has done a good job depicting the harsh realities of a woman in the early 1800’s. If they weren’t married, life was difficult. The apprenticeship and guild rules were something I hadn’t really thought about much. I liked the book depicted real, common life dilemmas. The Valentine idea threw in a little romance.
