After a harrowing incident leaves a member of Clint’s family clinging to life, the Mechant Loup detective is called out to investigate a murder case in his small Louisiana town.

Clint’s response time is slow because of his own tragedy, but when he finally arrives, he learns that the father is dead, the family dog unresponsive, and the teenage son missing. Thankfully, the dog has only been tranquilized, but the father is very dead and there is no sign of the son.

As Clint and his team gather more information, they uncover a secret that might explain—or even justify—the killing. Even though Clint suddenly doesn’t like the victim, he still has to investigate the murder and find the missing boy, so he pushes his personal troubles aside and keeps digging.

Before long, he discovers another secret…but this one’s the kind that can get you killed.

About the author

BJ Bourg is a twenty-seven-year veteran of law enforcement and has worked as a patrol cop, detective, police academy instructor, SWAT officer, sniper leader, and chief investigator for a district attorney's office. He is a former professional boxer and a lifelong martial artist.

He is the author of the London Carter Mystery Series, the Clint Wolf Mystery Series, two books featuring Detective Brandon Berger, and a stand-alone mountain mystery. Crazy fast paced read with the best endind

When Clint takes Isiah fishing along with Achilles expecting a quiet day with his son..except he didn't count on a surprise attack by something doesn't belong in the Bayou, an anaconda. Isaiah is saved by Achilles but will Achilles survive the horrific attack. And where did the snake come from?
Then a teen goes missing and his dad ends up dead, his best friend disappears too. While searching for him, the team comes upon several illegal animals that should not be in the US & the boys were trying to keep them active secret and alive til an assassin comes looking for whomever stole their trafficked wildlife after their plane crashed.
Read in a night, wanting to see how it ended & if Achilles would survive as well as the teen boys

Too many inconsistencies from book to book

I would love to give a five star review, but I have read every book multiple times, and the inconsistencies are too much. One of the main ones is in the book where they go to Tennessee for Reagan‘s funeral. Melvin mentioned that his wife Claire is pregnant. Two books later, there’s no mention of this. Multiple times throughout the books Clint refers to his wife as his fiancé, even though they’ve been married for years. There are many more inconsistencies like this. I think the author should do a better job of keeping up with his characters.

This story starts out with a scene so scary and disturbing, I found myself holding my breath.

And the tension never lets up.

In this police procedural, we get to spend more time with our favorite Mechant Loup detectives and officers as they connect the dots from one murder to two missing persons to a global criminal enterprise. Stakes raise on each page, and the climax is oh-so-satisfying.

Thirty-four books into the series, and I’m still not tired of this cast and this town. Fans of this genre will no doubt feel the same. Highly recommended.

Good Read

Another exciting adventure for Clint and his team.

Great Book!! It stands on it's own !!

Intriguing Mystery showing all the "little pieces" that have to be analyzed as to how they "fit" in the puzzle!!
You get the feeling, that even though you don't get the connection now, later it may 'bridge the gap' to a perfect solution!! Great balance on the character development with a continual look into their lives throughout the book!!
I really enjoyed this adventure from the very beginning and anticipate the next book to be just as entertaining!!

This one started out harrowing! I couldn't turn the page fast enough to see who came out a head and if Achilles was going to make it. The funny thing about this whole event is that it almost seemed tame compared to what else happened and what Clint and his crew found out. It's also interesting that basically 2 kids were able to bring all of this to light and crack open all the illegal things happening. Loved to see the bad guy taken down at the end and how things ended with a celebration and a big announcement. After the action of the book, they all needed the downtime and fun.

Great reading

Clint Isaiah and Achilles are out fishing when there is a streak attacking Isaiah but is intercepted by Achilles. It is a 16 foot anaconda and it starts squeezing Achilles and Clint fights to save him. At the vets Clint is called out on a murder investigation that involves a murdered dad and 2 missing teanage boys. Fast-paced and ever changing with a very nice surprise ending.

I enjoyed this read a lot. It gives the reader a insist on animal smuggling which is a big problem in the United States and abroad. Its devastating what goes on and very hard for the authority's to catch. Its very sad, animals are beaten, not give food or water for days, not given a proper diet. So thank you for bringing this to light it is very dear to my heart. Bravo for this amazing story..

Such a jaw dropping heart stopping case, you really know how to stop a ladies heart with such suspense and what could be heartbreaking moments. I could not put the book down, I finished it in a little over a day. Another Clint Wolf special with all the adventures incident in living in the swamps of Louisiana. I had a little problem with the snake killing the pilot and then leaving him to get into the water and eventually drawing the attention of Clint and group. Seems like he would have dined first and traveled later.

I was a bit confused about how old Isaiah is because it kept changing. First he was almost two and then Susan said he wasn't yet 1 and a half. Then they're having a birthday party.

Good read

I love all of the Clint Wolf books. If you likes a series where you get to know the characters, I highly recommend.
