Mugged at First Sight

Rate this book
I thought he just wanted to steal my purse. Instead, he stole my heart.

There I was, on the worst first date of my life, when a masked man cornered us in an alley.
Terrifying, right? Oh, it gets worse.

The “gentleman” I was with? He bolted. Left me to the whims of a criminal with a gun.
I know. Rude.

But instead of taking my money—or, you know, killing me—my mugger asked me out for coffee.
And I actually went.

Now “Blue Eyes” won’t leave me alone. He’s clearly dangerous, crazy obsessive, and way too charming. I can’t decide if I should call the cops… or call him mine.

The last thing I need is to be falling for a criminal.
But here’s the problem: I think I already have.

Mugged at First Sight is a darkly funny, wildly twisted romcom where your mugger might just be the man of your dreams.

Are you a fan of rom-coms but also like morally grey with a side of crime and stalker vibes? This one is for you.

Mugged at First Sight is the start of the Criminally Yours series by Tabatha Kiss and I'm already loving the vibes. I'm talking morally grey family of crime, with a side of stalker and touch her and die energy- what more could a good girl want 😘

Dorian "Blue Eyes" Whitlock and Betty Lou Ray are very much a good girl meets bad boy situation- that even though Betty believes in black and white she can't help but be intrigued by the grey area she finds herself in when it comes to Dorian. Dorian was first intrigued by Betty while trying to figure out how she tied to his brother Basitan's arrest- but I couldn't get enough of his infatuation with her and how he just couldn't help himself where she was concerned. What I loved the most is that even though this has a bit of a darker strain to it, the story isn't heavy but fun in all the right rom-com kind of ways. The chemistry, the tension, the flirting... it was all just *perfection*

I'm kind of obsessed the different levels of crazy running through the Whitlock family. I couldn't blame Betty for being drawn in because I wanted to get closer to them all as well. The only thing that kind of brought the story down for me was the kind of the reveal of who was actually orchestrating Bastian's jail time and then the way that Dorian quickly manipulates things to fix the situation. It felt a little anticlimactic and like I didn't quite get a full resolution. BUT I will say that since there will be more books in the series, perhaps this was done on purpose so that it can be revisited again. I don't know and only time will tell.

But overall this book was a really fun read and a nice little escape from the typical bubbly rom-coms out there. Definitely can't wait for more Whitlocks and for more on that little surprise in Gideon's trunk!!

A Fantastic Read

Picture it: You're on a first date with the most boring, narcissistic guy on the planet and you just know this is not gonna work out for you. You leave as politely as you can given that you both work in the same building and you don't want things to be anymore awkward that a bad date can be. Our hero Dorian meets our girl Betty while " saving" her from a mugging, or at least that's the perceived image he wants to portray as he is the "mugger". All she can see is his drop dead sexy sapphire blue eyes. Betty should be scared, and yet she's very intrigued. Her world is black and white and his is various shades of grey. Dorian meeting Betty is not by accident, but more on that later. He needs her help to right a wrong and the path this takes is a delicious roller coaster of intense chemistry and both learning that not everything is as as they appear. Are the scales of justice restored? Well, I can't give you all the spoilers now can I? I will say that we do get a HEA, but how we get there is for you to explore!

Now if you're familiar with Tabatha Kiss's other works, you'll know that there is another story called Muffin Top. This bakery is a favorite of Betty's and is mentioned throughout the story.

I could not put this story down and I hope you love it as much as I do. Another home run from Tabatha Kiss!

Once again this author keeps you on your toes as you flip through the pages, laughing out loud and actually rooting for the “bad” boy. Betty is a strait laced court stenographer, the good girl who always does the right thing and after a horrible date, she gets held up by a mugger and her date runs off leaving her alone in the alley with the robber…until said robber asks her to go for a coffee with him. For whatever reason she says yes, and names him blue eyes since that is the only part of his face she can see with his neck gaiter covering his features. Blue eyes has his reasons for confronting her that night and reasons for stalking her right after, he knows her routine, her schedule, her darkest fantasies, everything about her and Betty is actually intrigued and doesn’t report him. Their interactions are hilarious and intense and soon the good girl becomes his bad girl and neither want it to end….until the whole truth comes out and blue eyes will do whatever it takes to keep his good/bad girl safe.
LOVED IT!!! The story flowed beautifully, the pages were flipping, the laughs kept coming, the steam was intense and not everything is black and white as grey does exist and bad guys can be good and good girls can be bad. Amazing characters, amazing storyline and a read not to be missed.

Tabatha Kiss is back—and how she's back! It's been a while since she wrote a somewhat darker romance novel with morally questionable characters, and I was absolutely thrilled with this book. The characters couldn't be more different: Betty, the sweet and innocent daughter of a police officer, and Dorian, the son and brother of criminals. But they harmonize so perfectly with each other that it's almost magical.
Their first encounter is both eerie and hilarious, and it only gets better from there.
This book had me hooked until the very end; I laughed out loud, had tears in my eyes, and everything in between.
Ms. Kiss is a master of her craft. Her stories are full of unexpected twists and turns, so you find yourself falling in love with a criminal in no time. I LOVE this first book in her new series and can't wait to read more about this family. Mugged at First Sight is top-notch entertainment, a real must-read, and an absolute page-turner.
Those familiar with her previous series will love all the hidden Easter eggs!

Betty Lou Ray is the daughter of a decorated detective. As a court reporter, she's a firm believer in justice and respects the law. Dorian aka Blue Eyes, is a Whitlock. The criminal behavior runs deep in his family. So much so, he's waiting for that part of him to "awaken." But all Betty sees is the good in him. Even though he jumped her in the alley at the end of a bad date.

I enjoyed this one. I loved both Dorian and Betty and together, they are just all kinds of perfect. The chemistry sizzles between them. There's slow-building steam that ultimately heats up the page, tons of banter, and plenty of moments to make you smile. I swear, only Tabatha Kiss could make me smile this much with a stalker book. Dorian was charming but not because he was a man with teeth-sparkling perfection. It was his perfect imperfections, his vulnerability, and his backstory.

This is a story about family and protecting those you love. And it's definitely worth a read.

What would you do if you found out that your black and white world is actually more of a grayscale?

You are an honest person, believe in following the law, and that the law is right. You are a court stenographer, keeping your opinions out of your work and only writing exactly what you hear.

Blue Eyes, so aptly nicknamed for his sapphire eyes, stalks you, breaking into your apartment, your workplace, and even the apartment complex across the street so he can watch your every move. He informs you that someone has tampered with your work, and a man is in prison because of it. Do you work with your stalker to correct what has been wronged? Or do you let it go because it involves a very dangerous man?

The banter and chemistry between characters had me laughing and kicking my feet throughout the book.

Be sure to read Tabatha's other books because you'll get to meet some of their characters and find out about their favorite places.

This new series about a group of morally gray brothers absolutely hit the spot. It had me laughing, shaking my head, and completely hooked from the start. Betty, a court stenographer, lives in a world that’s very black and white—her job is literally to observe, record, and make sense of what’s said and done. So when she finds herself in a dangerous situation that challenges her clear-cut sense of right and wrong, everything she believes starts to blur. Enter a charming, mysterious stranger with “blue eyes” and a perspective she never saw coming. From there, things take an unexpected turn, and Betty begins to realize that morally gray doesn’t always mean wrong. This was a fantastic introduction to what promises to be a fun, thrilling, and slightly unhinged series centered on the Whitlock brothers. I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next.

A rom-com with a morally grey stalker and a splash of crime? Yes. Please.

As with any Tabatha book, I knew from the very first chapter this was going to be a fun, page-turning ride. Betty and Blue Eyes had me hooked, and I really enjoyed seeing the start of a brand-new series unfold.
Being back in this author’s darker lane was everything. Seeing Snake Eyes pop up again? Yes! (Low-key desperate for more of that world).

The only thing I would’ve loved more of was the takedown of the person responsible for Bastian, and a deeper look into exactly what Blue Eyes did to fully achieve what he did—but honestly, that just has me hoping (and slightly begging) for more glimpses of this in the upcoming books.

And the Whitlock brothers? Consider me fully invested—I can’t wait to get to know them better.

This is a wonderfully entertaining romcom about a young woman, Betty who is almost mugged by Blue Eyes, Dorian with the goal of helping get his brother out of prison for a crime he never committed. Betty lives an honest life believing in the criminal system and Dorian knows about criminals and the shortcomings of the legal processes. Blue Eyes takes a unique approach to getting to know Betty and finds himself struggling with his feelings for her and finding his proof. Betty and Blue Eyes build their relationship one unique moment after another as they discover who they are as individuals and together as a couple. The Whitlock boys and their mother are notorious and seeing how they all live their life’s with the good and bad makes them a bit crazy, but a good fun loving crazy! What a great start to this new dark romance series!

Once again the author has written a funny sexy read I mean imagian meating your Mr. Perfect and he's a criminal oh and he saves you from a horrible date at gun point what really yep Betsy used to think her life as a court stenographer was pretty boring go to work go home exercise and do it al over again so how did she get the attention of Blue Eyes her personal stalker he's criminal she's not he's dangerous she's not. Dorian would do anything for family and he definitely has one unique family following Betsy was just something he needed to do now hes obsessed with everything she dose everywhere she goes and if anyone touches his girl there gona wish they could dissappear because Dorian job is finding people that think there invisible that there secrets are hidden but nothing stays in the dark for long with a family like his who needs enemies. Betsy how am I falling for my stalker he invades mylife and my personal space but I can't tell him to go away and when all the truth comes out she's going to need her very Grey Knight in tarnished armor. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Some morally grey areas (but understandable), stalkerish, criminals and steamy. Tabatha Kiss definitely put a twist on a romance novel. Tabatha Kiss gave me suspense, mystery, action and steam. I like Betty she's smart, believes in right and wrong and strong ethics. Dorian/ Blue Eyes is a little harder to like he's certain of his brother's innocence, very family oriented the way he goes about things are questionable. Tabatha Kiss brought a group we haven't heard from in a while Snake Eyes. I love how she manages to intertwine previous books with new books. Overall I loved Mugged at First Sight and can't wait to see what happens in next book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.

OMG! I have missed Tabby and her fantastic writing.

This book, 5 bazillion stars!!

If you like your characters in the morally gray area, then this one is for you. I love the wholesome Betty and the slightly broken Dorian. Dorian is from a colorful family. We're talking assassin, thief, mob boss, and a murderous mama. We're talking sketchy characters and I am here for it all.

If you have been a true Tabby fan, then you will recognize Snake Eyes and Muffin Top. I love when an author brings out characters or places from a previous series.

You are going to love this book as hard as I did. A total must read!

Unexpected!

Blue eyes, that’s all Betty can remember about her mugger/saviour that night.
When he jumped out of the darkness and her so called date runs off leaving her alone with him, things taken unexpected turn.
Next thing you know he is showing up everywhere and is watching her every move and the funny thing is, she doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Loved this! A very different Tabitha book, a lot darker but with her signature style romcom as always. Betty and Blue Eyes had me turning pages to figure out how their story was going to end and didn’t disappoint.

I read this book voluntarily for an honest review.

This is the first story in a new series about the Whitlock brothers who have bent morals and a completely dysfunctional family. Dorian is the middle child and the hacker in the group. When his youngest brother is convicted of a crime he didn't commit, he has to find a way to get him free. Enter Betty, the court stenographer who worked his brother's trial. He doesn't believe she changed the testimony though he needs to make sure. He decides a way to make sure and her mugging and his obsession with watching her will change both their lives. Will it be for the better or the worse? This was a good read. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the other brothers.

This is probably my favorite Tabatha Kiss out of the last five of hers that I’ve read. I had no idea what to expect, but I was laughing almost immediately and completely taken with Betty and Blue Eyes from the beginning! Tabatha quotes my all time favorite kids’ book in the first 25 pages, and honestly, that sealed the deal for me! The characters we meet, their individual challenges, both psychological and criminal, make them all uniquely intriguing. Just the right amount of spice, banter, and plot twists to keep you guessing. I simply cannot wait to read the next Criminally Yours book!

A great introduction to the Criminally Yours series!

• Twisty, stalker romcom. Not a dark romance – quite the opposite
• Laugh-out-loud moments. Explicit sex. Mystery, suspense, some danger.
• Favourite tropes: Opposites Attract, Hidden Identity, and Morally Gray Anti Hero.
• Loved the evolution of ‘Blue Eyes’ and Betty’s relationship. So. Much. Fun!
• Looking forward to more tales of the Whitlock brothers

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...

This was definitely an interesting story, but I enjoyed the ride. Dorian and Betty’s journey is not your typical one and their meet cute could be considered a felony perhaps but, hey, no harm no foul. Dorian needed Betty’s help and his plan of introduction required a bit of finagling her attention; which he definitely obtained during her terrible first date.

I really enjoyed the boy and vibe between Dorian and Betty; but I really loved that we got to see my favorite characters from Muffin Top.

More review to come.

Saved from a Bad Date

While Dorian and Betty officially meet in an unusual way it was definitely interesting. This story is a bit darker than I expected from author Tabatha Kiss lately but I absolutely loved it. I was captivated right from the start and could not put it down. The chemistry between these characters was beautifully woven with some steamy moments that blended well with the overall story. It is well worth the read.

This book is the newest amazing read by Tabatha Kiss. The story is original and so captivating that I couldn't put it down. Blue Eyes aka Dorian and Betty have the most unusual beginning to their relationship and it sucked me right in. They are magnetic and the story - well you absolutely have to read it because no one writes a heartfelt, funny, sexy, romcom like Tabatha Kiss. I loved it.

The hilarious first encounter had me hooked from the beginning. I do love that we get a little bit of the darker side of Tabatha Kiss in this story. I love Dorian and Betty together and how everything is woven together for them. I especially loved all the little easter eggs! It fully immerses you back in the world that TK has written for us and I cannot wait for the next book!

This is what I think for as stalker lite. There is no harm intended of the MFC and the MMC is sweet and sexy and has an unusual origin story.

I liked both the main characters. It was easy to connect to them both.

Legitimately. ..no one needs to hear play by play of leg day.

Mugged at First Sight is a light-hearted, bad boy-good girl and“stalker”-turn-love-interest story.

It’s a fun and entertaining read with interesting, morally grey characters and a modern beauty-and-the-beast vibe.
