I hated reading when I was growing up. After graduating high school, I found out that it wasn't the reading I hated, it was being told what to read. Since then, I have jumped headfirst into the worlds of fantasy, historical fiction, and whatever else strikes my interest, disappearing within their pages only to emerge hungry for more. When I'm not writing, I'm reading.
I am determined to create a haven for those wanting to disappear into a magical realm, stretching my imagination, learning, and writing whenever my stories beg to be told.

An emotional masterpiece. The first 3/4 of this book reads as a cozy mystery, tension building until WHAM! The last 1/4 of the book hits you in the gut, the excitement picking up and leaving you delightfully satisfied. This is the first book I have read by this author and oh man, I need to read ALL her others now. Also I really need book 2!!!!! I’m desperate to know what happens next.

I love the music boxes! That was such a cool aspect. And I love how the main characters did not have it easy. That made for a very satisfying read. I love how each brother had a distinct personality and you were able to care about them all. Every character in this book was fleshed out perfectly and no character acted outside of their personality. I can’t express how much I adore this book.

If you love K. M. Shea, you will ADORE E. B. Bridenstine!!!!!

Negatives: None.

Violence/Gore: There are several fights. Wounds are bloody and burns happen. I would not call it gory at all.
Cussing: None
Romance: Kissing, holding
Magic: Yes! Oh my goodness I love how E.B. Did her magic system!! It’s so cool. Oh man, I wish we had tinker mages in real life.

This was so good!

I love the way the magic system, which involves mages, was explored through the lens of someone who didn't have magic abilities herself. We get to discover things alongside her, learning as she learns. And the various types of mages were fascinating.

The main character, Onnalee, was capable, yet soft. I appreciated that she wasn't presented as being able to do it all, while also not needing rescuing at every turn. She had nuance like a real human being.

Each of the princes had his own personality, and I can't wait for the stories that follow all of them! While I enjoyed them all, Falcon and Shrike are my favorites, I think. Falcon is flirty, confident, and respectful, which I love. But Shrike is a grump, and they always get under my skin.

The ending leaves you ready to dive into the next story while still also tying up the main lose threads of this particular portion of the series.

I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good fantasy. It's a great read for adults and teens alike.

A Magical Masterpiece

This was such an amazing fantasy read! Give me curses, give me a band of brothers who each have their own distinct personalities yet share an unbreakable bond, and give me a love story you can’t help but root for—this book delivers it all.

I was pulled in from the very beginning. Before I even finished the first brother’s story, I was already eager for whatever the author has in store for the rest of them. The worldbuilding, the pacing, the charm—it all hooked me instantly.

Onnalee is the kind of princess fantasy readers adore: brave, loyal, and unafraid to face down danger for the people she loves. Her connection to the brothers sends her on a quest to break the cruel curse that turns them into swans by day and allows only one to return to human form at night, forever keeping them apart. The stakes feel real, the tension is delicious, and the emotional beats land beautifully.

If you love a good quest, a slow-burn romance, a strong female heroine, rich magic, and stories built on love and family, this book is absolutely for you. I couldn’t put it down. The dialogue is sweet and engaging, and more than once it had me smiling like a fool.

This is one book you should not pass up. I can’t wait to dive into the remaining brothers’ stories—but Jay and Shirke’s are the ones I’m anticipating most!

Oh my gosh!!! I just finished and I sobbed but it is beautiful! A perfect end and a perfect lead to a next book without killing me internally as I wait! I am so anxious to see everyone else's story this is a strong opening to a series. My gosh every emotion! No joke all of them. I couldn't put the book down. I literally am still sitting in my car since getting off work! When it got dark I had to turn on an interior light, but I couldn't stop reading! I am both speechless and need to word vomit lol! I have a few people waiting to borrow the book from me but I think i need to reread it first, but I also need someone to talk about it with ahhh!!! Soo good! Im just... ya wow so good! There are not enough words!
