Stoacıların Paradoksları adıyla Latinceden Türkçeye aktarılan bu yapıtta Marcus Tullius Cicero, tarih boyunca insanların farklı anlamlar yüklediği, fakat hiçbir zaman üzerinde uzlaşmaya varamadığı, onur (honestia), erdem (virtus), mutluluk (beatitudo), eşitlik (aequitas), özgürlük (libertas), bilgelik (sapientia) ve zenginlik (divitiae) gibi kavramları ele alır. Cicero, stoacıların felsefe okullarında tartıştıkları bu kavramları halkın anlayabileceği sade bir dille tartışmaya açmayı amaçlayarak şu altı paradoks üzerinde durur:

Marcus Tullius Cicero was a Roman philosopher, statesman, lawyer, political theorist, and Roman constitutionalist. Cicero is widely considered one of Rome's greatest orators and prose stylists.

Stoické paradoxy napísal filozof Marcus Tullius Cicero pravdepodobne v prvej polovici roka 46 pred n. I. Autor tu obhajuje šesť etických tvrdení, ktoré sú na prvý pohľad v rozpore s bežným uvažovaním. Z hľadiska etického myslenia stoikov sú však pravdivé. Ukazujú spôsob, ako sa dajú filozofické myšlienky preniesť do rečníckeho prejavu. Zároveň sa v nich Cicero púšťa do kritiky dobových spoločenských pomerov. Prostredníctvom Stoických paradoxov tak slovenskí čitatelia dostávajú možnosť poodhaliť autorov rečnícky, filozofický aj politický spôsob myslenia.

Stoacıların paradoksları, sadece belli soruların ya da sorunların öğrenilmesi değil, aynı zamanda geçtiği dönemde yaşanan sorunların ve soruların hemen hemen hiç değişmeden günümüze gelmiş olduğunu öğrenmemizi sağlayan bir kitap. Bunun yanı sıra kitapta yer alan dipnotlardan oldukça iyi bir araştırma ve okunacak listesi yapmanız mümkün. Çünkü kitabın referans olarak aldığı kısımlarda oldukça iyi okunacak eserler var. Kitabın başlar başlamaz paradokslara odaklanmadan önce, stoa ve stoacılar hakkında bilgi vermesi de oldukça güzel olmuş. Hatta olmazsa olmaz bir doğru başlangıç olmuş.

stoic philosophy has melted and blended virtue, happiness, freedom, wealth, equality and wisdom in the bond established with nature. at this point, stoic philosophy has a fairly consistent statement based on other philosophical movements. of course, the share of being a "school" factor in this is very, very large.

since stoic philosophy is a philosophical current organized as the first philosophical school, I can say that it has spread quite widely and even influenced monotheistic religions. because, according to the Stoics, the whole order in the world is enormous. when monotheistic religions say this, they also add that both of them include evil in this enormity, because evil is not caused by God, it is something that people produce. however, he perceives fate and evil as a test. but isn't it necessary to know about matter in order to counteract what man produces? his question is, I think, one of the paradoxes that stoa and other ways of belief cannot solve.

Girişte bağlamı tesis etmek amacıyla verilen bilgiler ve düzgün çeviri ile değer kazanan bir kitap. Tabii ki o tarihlerde yazılmış bir şeyleri bugün okuyabilmek çok büyük şans; o açıdan ilgiyle okudum ve bu sitedeki başka bir değerlendirmede ifade edildiği gibi, Romalı vatandaşların günümüz dünyası ve Türkiyesi'ndeki sorunların aynılarıyla uğraşıyor olmaları da çarpıcı. Ancak Cicero'nun yazdıklarında aradığım derinliği bulamadım. Gerçek anlamda paradokslar ortaya konmuyor ve her yönüyle mantıksal bir irdelemeye girişilmiyor. En çok ilgilendiğim 4. paradoksun ("aptal olan her kişi aynı zamanda delidir") önemli bir kısmının günümüze ulaşamamış olması da tadımı kaçırdı. Cicero'yu bu eser itibarıyla bir Stoacı değil, Stoacılardan etkilenmiş bir Roma vatandaşı olarak değerlendirdim. Pulcher adlı bir rakibine kafayı takmış olması da biraz can sıkıcı ve Stoacı duruşla çok paralel değil. Stoacı okuma yapmak isteyen için Cicero'ya benzer bir toplumsal konumda (nüfuza sahip bir Roma vatandaşı) olan Seneca çok daha iyi bir seçenek.
