Lez The Halls

A Witch for Solstice

Rate this book
It’s a witch in a box! A dragon queen receives an unexpected gift from a fiery sorceress, all wrapped up in a pretty red bow.
Brigid has always been a little too much to handle. As a fire witch, her gifts can be quite dangerous, so she’s being kept locked away in an Academy of Magic until she can control them.
While the rest of the students are off for the holidays, a dragon horde breaks in to take back a treasure chest that was stolen from them.
Delivering herself to the dragon queen seems like the perfect opportunity to escape her restrictive coven…And Her Majesty is more than pleased with her gift.

This is a short, sweet, and spicy little winter treat. 🖤

This was such a sweet story! I usually don’t love royalty romances, but how can you not love Brigid and Matty? Brigid was so very lonely and made a rather questionable decision but it super paid off. She learned to trust herself more and embraced new opportunities. Matty was sweet and affectionate, with a reputation of a rakess. They were adorable together.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: voluntary confinement in closed space to escape bad situation, mentions of prolonged punishment for juvenile offense, excess alcohol consumption, social ostracizing, magic fire accident (no one is hurt)

This was nice. Short and simple. There was more packed into the page count than I expected, though it was still definitely a short story/novella and not a full novel. It was enjoyable. I don’t know if this gave Christmas vibes at all….but that’s ok. There simply wasn’t enough here for 5-stars but at the same time I don’t really have any complaints at all.

Sometimes you need a short little story, and this worked very well for that task!

The content warnings sound rather significant but this was a very chill story so honestly disregard, lol.

3.8 ⭐️ I had so much fun reading this sapphic dragon shifter / witch romance!

I have never disliked a Darva novel so I’m happy to confirm this was another hit. It’s incredibly short which I did feel caused some issues for pacing (even for a soulmate romance it’s very insta love due to this) but I loved both characters and felt their romance was gripping.

I’m also just weak for a good spicy monster romance 🙂‍↕️

Rep// WLW/Sapphic Witch MC (29), WLW/Sapphic Dragon Shifter MC. Central romance is sapphic/WLW.

TWs listed below, please skip if you don’t want vague spoilers.

TW// graphic sex on page (multiple scenes), fire play, alcohol consumption, suppression of magical powers as punishment (past), a scene some people may find claustrophobic.

I enjoyed this quick (instalove, mates and stuff), cute and spicy seasonal story. What could go be better with wintery cold?

I liked the contrast of the expectations of a Dragon Queen with Matty, very cute. Both characters have a satisfying development within the length bounds of the story. I think I will go on with the whole series.

didn’t think a witch/dragon sapphic erotic romance would be something I’d want more of. but that’s what life is about- finding out new things about yourself during the most random times.

missed the mark for me

Absolutely missed the mark for me. I disliked the storyline (not much of one) it was all over the place. Maybe it would have been better for a full length novel, more world building and character growth. Only good thing was that it was short, otherwise I might have DNFd’.

4/5. Aside from needing editing, it was adorable for what it was: cute, short, sweet, a little spicy, and if the author ever chose to fully flesh it out and make a whole book, I’d read the fucking shit out of it because it intrigued me and made me wanna learn more about the world. That was a long sentence, my b. Feels a little crazy when there wasn’t exactly a truckload of world building, depth, or detail involved, but it be what it be. Proves it’s good soup.

A fun and festive, quick, dragon shifter fire witch sapphic romance! My first dragon shifter spicy reading experience and I enjoyed the scaley firey elements that brings. The relationship between Brigid and the Dragon Queen is very sweet and heartwarming. Definitely an instant connection but not instantly go go go, it’s built up really nicely, especially for a 68 page book!
A couple of gripes for my personal tastes, but still very enjoyable and LOVING the Lez the Halls collection so far.

Plot summary
Brigid, witch with some big fire power than she isn’t taught how to control, had her power binded by the academy, essentially because they’re scared of it. She spots her opportunity for a better life of freedom when the dragon queen’s horde come to steal back a big special royal box.
She hides herself in the box ready to be delivered to the Dragon Queen (Matty) and offer herself in exchange for a less restrictive life, much to Matty’s surprise! What luck it must be to have her mate delivered in a big red bow right before the solstice!

What I loved:
- FIRE! Dragon fire and fire witch, all the fire, all the yes.
- Hiding away in a box ready to be unwrapped
- Genuinely very sweet connection between them
- Dragon shifty fun

Overall, a short and sweet, sapphic festive dragon shifter / fire witch romance with some spicy bits and lovely festive moments!

Stars: 5 Stars
Format: Digital
Series: Lez the Halls Book 1
Steam Level: Steamy

I saw this collection advertised in one of the many author mailing lists I subscribe to and it sounded like it would be loads of fun. I love these types of short story collections since they have a low bar of entry to try new to you authors.

I really enjoyed this collection because none of these stories are connected; you have the option of just picking up one story and/or reread your favorite one.

Quick Thoughts:
- This is a Fated Mate story so if you’re not a fan of that, skip this one
- I hope the Headmistress is miserable for the rest of her life
- The way the Fated Mates trope is done here is wonderful and had me believing it hook, line, and sinker
- I would have loved to have learned more about this universe but that’s just me being a greedy reader
- The miscommunication makes sense in this story with the way Brigid grew up/abused and thus not knowledgeable about lots of things
- I just want Brigid and Matty to be happy together forever

Overall I loved this story. It was adorable and sexy and the world was fun to learn about. This was a great start to this collection.

What’s better than a pairing between a fire witch and a dragon shifter immune to fire?

Darva Green answers that for us: it’s better when the fire witch can’t control her powers, and the dragon shifter helps her gain confidence in herself and her abilities. It’s better when the fire witch is a virgin and the dragon queen is a rake (rakess?). And it’s better when the dragon queen has to choose her mate by the solstice ball.

Not only is this a delightful, festive story, but it’s got a hilarious premise: Brigid is drunk and gets the whacky idea to deliver herself as a present to the dragon queen who is breaking into the Academy. Hijinx ensue, and not in the way you would expect. Matty the dragon queen is incredibly sweet and understanding, contrasted with Brigid’s insecurities about her powers.

This is a spicy little novelette with a lot to offer. I loved not just the romance between Brigid and Matty, but also the character development that they go through with each other—theirs is a dynamic I will be thinking about for a long time.

Definitely give this a try for a quick, satisfying holiday read.

This is a sweet sapphic shifter solstice novella. It is part of the Lez the Halls series of standalones.

Fire witch FMC Brigid has been left alone, her magic bound by her coven due to mistakes in her youth. When an opportunity presents itself, she delivers herself to dragon queen FMC Matty in an attempt to escape. And of course, the dragon queen is immediately enamored with her.

This was a fun, adventurous story with super cozy moments and some spice. I really liked the world-building and the festivities around the solstice. It’s a perfect quick read for the holiday.

I really enjoyed this book, as well as The Fires of Longest Night, so I can’t wait to read the rest of the Lez the Halls series.

This one didn’t quite land for me. I was drawn in by the witchy premise, but I realized pretty quickly that this more abstract fantasy style just isn’t my thing. Going in, I expected the “dragon queen” to be either fully human or fully dragon (or at least a clear shifter situation). Instead, the character exists in a kind of in-between state—human form but with horns and other non-human features—which wasn’t what I was anticipating.
Because of that, the erotic scenes felt less like they were between two people and more like they were between a person and a creature, and that was a big deal-breaker for me. This is very much a personal preference issue, not a quality one, but it ultimately made the story not for me.

Oh! From the first page this story promises to be a sweet gift at the end of what has been a hard year for so many - and gosh, it holds true to that promise. Brigid is a fire witch whose powers have been suppressed, and Matty is a dragon shifter who just happens to have been made Queen.

And they are adorable together!

If you love a story about someone discovering their magic anew, about the fates intervening to bring lovers together, all mixed with some forked-tongue spicy delights… yeah, this book is definitely for you.

That’s all of us, right?!

Enjoy!

Another fun read, and definitely out of my normal “comfort zone” I felt that at times I was confused with the plot, but as someone who doesn’t read fantasy normally, I think that was my own issue. I did a lot of backtracking and rereading to understand the character development. It was still really fun and different! Being under 100 pages, this is definitely a quick read, but worth it. Moderately steamy, and low plot. But still fun and holiday themed. I’m excited to read the other books in the “Lez the Halls” collection!

Noooooo!!!! After so much discussion, I NEED the Dragon Ball!!!! :-O
However, as this is part of a multi-author series, I suspect there was a word limit. And I wouldn't have sacrificed any of the lead-up.

A fire witch gifts herself (dangerously) to the dragon shifter queen.
Fab premise.

There are endearing touches as the queen spends time giving her witch the 'warm fuzzies', and some fun spice scenes too.

A very enjoyable, quick winter solstice read.

This was a magical and romantic story to read on Christmas Day!

I love the quick world building about the Witchlands and the Dragon Territory and how history has affected each species. I loved how Matty decided to spoil and be patient with Bridget to slowly get her to fall for her because they are mates. Also, wanting to get to know each other before being mates and officiating their engagement at the solstice party.

Quick read.

Brigid was held captive basically. For that is what the coven did to her, with binding her magic so she couldn't use it. And then she was actually saved by Matty the Dragon Queen without her knowing it. It also turned out that she is Matty's fated mate...

Talk about all my favorite genres all rolled in one.

Every tale this author weaves is a chance at glimpsing magic. A novella that built a world and chemistry between two MCs more believably than some authors do in a 3 books series… I bow at the awesomeness. I don’t even care the Xmas is over a month away- I am devouring this series faster than a kitten with catnip. Onto the next! I’m so happy!

4 stars. Very cute and spicy little read. Matty and Brigid are both likable leads and I loved the chemistry between them. The writing was good, I liked the world building and the whole Matty needing to choose a mate thing. I’ll rank these novellas once I finish the last two that I need to read but so far all of them have been so good.
