Finely’s favourite holiday, Halloween, hasn’t been the same since girls have been disappearing every year on that exact date. But when Finley is invited to a haunted corn maze, she decides to go, hoping to finally enjoy her favourite day again. That’s where she meets Sebastian, her longtime crush. Baz is a quiet, lonely man with a dark aura that follows him everywhere... And some people think he might be connected to the disappearances.
A Sister for Halloween by Savvy Rose (ARC) is a book that had me asking myself, "WAIT, WHAT THE F*CK?!". This short story between Baz and Finley is twisted, spicy (like really, really spicy🥵), creepy, different, and full of trauma, and it kept me flipping pages like my life depended on it.
This was my first impression of Savvy Rose, and I just — WOW. I jumped into this book blindly and ended up second-guessing my own sanity while in the depths of a dark story that mixes suspense, spice, and psychological terror.
About the things I like/I don't like? Well, I liked ✨everything✨: very troubled and complex characters, a disturbing plot, a short but intense novelette... I'm pretty sure the only thing I didn't like was how I started doubting my feelings about Baz because, at some point, my morals were gone.
Dipping into the writing✍🏻, —again— I just don't have anything bad to say! The book was immersive, straight to the point, with no filler. The pacing? Nice and fast, perfect for a short read in this exact season🍁. The ending🤯? It made me feel good and bad at the same time, making me sit there for a minute to process what I'd just read and question myself.
If you're looking for a short book but with a deep plot, very dark and smutty, and perfect for spooky season, A Sister for Halloween is the book. I recommend reading it alone or with a friend, and —please— light a pumpkin candle🎃 (you'll thank me later😉)!
📌As always, check the trigger warnings before you read it!
This was an interesting dark romance novelette. I actually enjoyed it, though when I started I wasn’t sure where it was going. I wanted to see a spooky seasonal book and this definitely worked, though it wasn’t so much spooky as a dark romance with a lot of spice, which is a main part of the story, but aligns with the storyline. You actually get all the story making sense by the end. The writing is really well done and weaves a web you are trying to figure out and it all comes together by the end, though not as obvious as you would think. Both the FMC and MMC are complicated - I think the MMC seems a lot more complicated than the FMC, so much so that you want a HEA for him.
It’s a quick read- (I was able to read in a day) and it did have the Halloween setting so overall I liked the novelette. Since it is a novelette you don’t get all the details you would get from a full story, but that’s expected.
A dark, provocative Halloween thriller that blends small-town mystery with forbidden attraction. As fear, desire, and suspicion collide, the story keeps readers on edge, exploring grief, obsession, and the dangerous pull of the unknown. Unsettling, fast-paced, and unapologetically twisted, this is a bold read for fans of dark romance and psychological suspense.
