Kendra Colette takes her dream job in the executive office of the Boston Minutemen. The Minutemen's ownership recently transferred to Jonathan Crawford, III, aka Hawk. As she navigates her role in a male-dominated field, she catches the eye of her boss, the billionaire owner of the team. Hawk and Kendra are looking to prove themselves as relative newcomers to the leadership team. As their attraction grows, the team signs a new shortstop who is a ghost from her past. A past that she would prefer to remain buried. Kendra has grown through the All Aces Series, and now she can tell her own story. She's made mistakes in her relationships with her youngest sister, but man, she has a reason. This book contains sensitive content, including sexual themes, discussion of sexual assault, and trauma.
There are very difficult topics addressed in this book - so please read the trigger warnings.
I’m always amazed, surprised at how authors can weave stories around a single timeline and show something completely different. I don’t know how much Emma had planned out when she started writing Kelsey’s story, but wow to see it all come together 3 sisters/4 books later.
It felt like Emma wanted Kendra to tell her own story. While many of these details could have been shared earlier in the series, it felt very purposeful to have Kendra slowly open up to Jonathan and her family.
Jonathan is the perfect balance of vulnerability and strength and I really loved how his relationship with his Nonna kept him grounded. He is the new Owner of the Minutemen and trying to prove himself while improving the organization.
Clearly I’m not the writer because I don’t feel like I’m doing this pair justice. Kendra was so brave and bold using her sexuality to keep her heart protected and Jonathan was the perfect respectful wing man until he couldn’t resist any longer. It was fun to see a role reversal where the FMC was asking for physical connection rather than emotional connection.
There were so many highlights for this couple and I really enjoyed watching their relationship bloom, but the ending isn’t sugar coated and I think that’s why I’m a bit subdued in my review.
Is it HEA, absolutely! I can’t wait to see when/where Kendra and JJ show up next, but there was a content sigh of relief for me on this one. It felt like everything had been put into the proper place and now we must wait to see what amazing things happen next for this team.
Thank you to the author and BookFunnel for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This had all the elements of a romance I should have loved - billionaire, workplace proximity, “touch her and die” energy, and a sports backdrop. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t work for me.
The primary issue was pacing and emotional cohesion. The relationship escalated extremely quickly, moving from early attraction to exclusivity, explicit intimacy, declarations of love, future planning, and a proposal without enough relational build to make those milestones feel earned. Many deeply vulnerable moments, including discussions of past abuse, were followed almost immediately by sexual escalation, which created emotional whiplash rather than tension.
While I don’t mind high heat in romance, here the explicit scenes often replaced emotional development instead of deepening it. As a result, the connection between the characters felt rushed rather than organic.
I also struggled with character consistency. Motivations and boundaries seemed to shift scene to scene, and several side characters were introduced without sufficient development to make their presence impactful. Structurally, some transitions felt abrupt, which made the story feel under-edited.
There are readers who enjoy very fast, high-heat romances with intense escalation, and this may work well for them. For me, I needed stronger emotional groundwork and more cohesive character arcs to fully invest.
There are books that you like and there are books that you love. I love this book! The two MCs, Hawk and Kendra are easy to love for different reasons. Hawk has to be one of the best book boyfriends I have read. A billionaire, running the family owned baseball team but who falls for Kendra who works for him just does everything right. A great friend, lover, partner. This is the kind of guy you envision for yourself. Kendra is tough as nails but yet so real. Real in the sense of everything she’s had to deal with, true deep trauma and her approach to being human and dealing with trauma the best way she knows how. I think I see a lot of me in her and I love that the author gave us a realistic approach on life after a traumatic life event. This was a book I seriously felt enveloped in. I felt connected to the story and the characters. It was so easy to read. So quick paced for me. I didn’t want it to end! I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to read it because I’m now a fan and cannot wait for the next book!
I DEVOURED this book in less than 24 hours. My favorite of the 4. Kendra & Hawk both got their positions through determination and hard work contrary to what others believe. Hawk, taking over ownership of the baseball team from his granddad & Kendra becoming Director of Operations working together to make the team the best. It doesn't hurt that they have this insane attraction towards each other and the sexual tension is on fire. Their road to love was beautiful to read.
This book was SO GOOD. Such a cozy, low stress read. I don’t even like baseball. Hawk was an amazing character, the discourse around women’s issues was AMAZING. Such a realistic look at so many things women experience every day. The banter was top tier. I feel like I was kicking my feets the whole time.
