Andrea Jenelle’s All Is Bright is a compact, wintery delight—a novella that blends grumpy–sunshine chemistry, found-family warmth, and just the right hit of paranormal intrigue. What begins as a simple fixer-upper romance quickly spirals into something more atmospheric, more mysterious, and surprisingly tender.
Ollie, stubbornly independent and absolutely convinced she can whip her “should-have-been-condemned” house into shape, is immediately lovable. She’s chaotic, determined, and hiding a soft center under layers of self-preservation. Enter Gray—the gruff contractor who first crossed paths with her when he jump-started her van, only to later show up on her battered porch as the man assigned to bring her crumbling home back to life.
Their reunion isn’t meet-cute so much as “meet-grump,” but it works. Jenelle thrives in the friction. As Ollie reluctantly reveals her grand renovation ideas, it becomes clear that their personalities are as mismatched—and ultimately complementary—as the wonky walls of her house. Their mutual disdain for Christmas creates an unexpected point of connection, grounding the banter with an undercurrent of shared vulnerability.
But where All Is Bright stands apart is in its paranormal edge. The house itself feels alive, shadows seem to cling a little too long, and there’s a subtle eeriness that threads through the renovations and the growing relationship. The supernatural elements never overshadow the romance; instead, they add texture, tension, and an addictive sense of “something else is going on here.”
Gray is the standout—protective without being overbearing, gentle beneath the grizzle, and deeply thoughtful in ways Ollie doesn’t know how to process. Whether he’s rescuing her from one disaster after another, bringing unexpected calm to her chaotic world, or gifting her a cat that somehow becomes part emotional support, part sidekick, Gray steadily (and begrudgingly) proves he’s not the grump he pretends to be.
Their chemistry is slow-blooming but charged, made all the more compelling by the paranormal forces nudging them together and the emotional walls Ollie has spent years perfecting. Jenelle balances humor, heat, and haunting atmosphere with surprising finesse.

This was a cute holiday novella in a series of different authors. I’m usually not really into small town romance but I really did enjoy it. The characters were so cute and I will definitely be looking into more from this author.

All is Bright is book 7 in The Christmas list Series which is a multi-author series. It is also a Willow Creek Christmas Novella by Andrea Janelle.

Andrea Janelle has given us a classic rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge with a twist, instead of Ebenezer Scrooge we get two grinches.

Olivia Daniel’s has lived a hard life; it’s been tough for her and she’s built-up walls around her to protect herself and her heart. And with all the walls she’s built she’s surprised she hasn’t built up her own small city with all the walls she’s built up so tightly around her.

She never expected to ever meet anyone like Grayson Whitlock in all his broody military predisposition. But, beneath his gruff exterior lies this man who has a heart of gold and lives to protect, and suddenly Olivia finds that she’s at the top of Grayson’s list of people to protect and care for.

Together Olivia and Grayson work to restore her ole crumbling home, and in the process, they begin the learn about each other and as they grow closer a bond between them begins to develop as they start to care for one another, even though they both have their fears.

Oliva is really a very hardened character to crack and really get to know and you know that it’s going to take more than sheer determination to really get to know her. And this wouldn’t be a Starr sister novella without one or five ghosts. And of course, you know that with this being a Christmas novel without the presence of the ghosts of past, present & future making an appearance.

Slowly we start to see that something is getting thru to Olivia and her walls start to slowly come down and she’s ready to step past and let go of her fear.

Oliva and Grayson are really very delightful together; I found their bit of snark to be hiding their true tenderness and their real feelings towards each other. I haven’t read any of the other Willow Creek books, but I enjoyed this one and I enjoyed the couples that I met in this book.

I really enjoyed all the sentimentality of the holiday season with the reluctant affection and the Olivia and Grayson’s true warmth and feelings. This was such a great short story to get lost in for a few hours.

I highly recommend this novella and the whole Christmas Playlist series. I have been greatly enjoying this multi-author series and I have found that all the authors have been doing a phenomenal job with each of the books.

I’m a fan of the „Willow Creek“ series and enjoyed this new sweet and spicy Christmas romance addition with a touch of spookiness and „A Christmas Carol“ vibes, featuring two people with troubled pasts who are very different except for their mutual dislike of everything to do with Christmas and their love for renovating houses. The plot is very well written and full of emotion, paranormal activity, a little steam, small town atmosphere and very likable characters. I already knew Ollie from the story of her twin sister Phee, who also appears in this book. She is reserved, eccentric and extremely independent, but has a soft heart behind her aloof behavior. Gray is a golden retriever who falls in love first. I really liked how he responded to her and how they both eventually got into the Christmas spirit together.

Olivia "Ollie" Daniels is a hipster and loner who, like her twin sister Phee, has supernatural abilities and prefers the company of ghosts to that of humans. That's why she recently purchased a dilapidated, secluded old house near a small cemetery so she can build her Tuber channel in peace.
After completing his service, ex-military man Grayson 'Gray' Whitlock came to Willow Creek to build a new life as a contractor. His job takes him to Olivia, whom he met and helped shortly before and whom he found her fascinating from the start, despite her gruff demeanor.
During the renovation of the house, they get to know each other better and, despite her spiritual idiosyncrasies, which make him a little uneasy, Gray falls more and more in love with Ollie, but she keeps him at a distance until she is haunted by the spirits of Christmas...

I recommend this delightful seasonal novella to anyone who enjoys Grinches, small-town vibes, great character development, heart and a little heat.

I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.

Thank you to BookSirens for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Concept-wise, this story has potential. Ollie buys an old house near a graveyard, and Gray—a grumpy contractor trying to start over—turns out to be the one hired to work on her house. A grumpy x sunshine setup with a Christmas backdrop should have made for a warm and cozy read.

Unfortunately, the execution didn’t work for me.

I was hoping for a slower, more natural build-up, but the attraction between Ollie and Gray felt too fast and unconvincing. The rushed pacing made their connection come across more as pure physical desire rather than a fully developed romantic relationship, which made it hard for me to emotionally invest in them.

During the first 50 pages, I was genuinely confused about what was happening and felt disconnected from the narrative.

I don’t believe this was solely due to a language barrier, as I could still grasp the general plot. However, there were quite a few words and stylistic choices that made the reading experience feel less smooth and harder to follow.

The use of dual POV was a good idea in theory, but in practice it felt underdeveloped and not very expressive, failing to add emotional depth to either character. For a Christmas novella, I expected more warmth and heartfelt moments.

Overall, this book wasn’t for me. However, I can see how readers who are already familiar with the series might enjoy it more than I did.

A classic rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge, but in this case we get two grinches. Olivia Daniel’s has lived a tough life and has enough walls up to be her own city. She never expected Grayson Whitlock and all his broody military structure. Beneath his gruff exterior lies a man with a huge heart who lives to protect, and she is now top of his list to care for. As they work together to restore her old home they learn all about each other, they bond and they start to care, despite the fears. Olivia is a tough nut to crack and it’ll take more than determination. This wouldn’t be a Starr sister novella without some ghosts and it wouldn’t be Christmas without the ghosts of past, present & future. Finally something is getting thru to Olivia and she’s ready to step past her fear. Olivia & Gray are adorable together, they already remind me of two crotchety old hens whose love language is a little bit snark hiding a whole of tenderness. It was nice to have the incorporation of some of Willow Creeks finest couples to guide their hand. This story is full of all the sentimentality of the season combined with reluctant affection and true warmth. A great short story to get lost in.

Huge thank you to the twisted chaos pa team and to the author for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest and spoiler free review as part of the Christmas playlist series.

This is my first read by Andrea Jenelle and I absolutely enjoyed her writing. This is also my first time meeting these characters so I didn’t know what to expect but I really liked Olivia and Grayson. I really loved Olivia’s personality and how she has been more comfortable around those who have passed on. I am always intrigued by characters who have that ability to be around spirits. I also loved Grayson as he seemed like such a relatable person. I found it so cute how he confided in his best friend when he first met Olivia. You could clearly see the type of friendship the boys had and it just made this novella feel very cozy for the holiday season. Overall, I really enjoyed this small town romance story and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

For a novella this packed in a lot of plot that I was not expecting. However, it felt a little jumpy to me, we would jump from scene to scene without really any transition. Secondarily, I loved the kind of supernatural subplot with her channeling ghosts but I really wish we as the reader had learned more about her powers and history as it’s mentioned in multiple places but it never feels fully flushed out. This may be better if you have read other books by this author but as a standalone I wanted a bit more. The characters were good I liked the opposites attract vibes and the cute morning routine they developed. This book was provided by twisted chaos pa as an ARC and above is my honest review.

I will never get over how Andrea puts together two characters who are just destined to be and creates such a world around them. Not to mention the connecting bits which really make the stories feel like every single one is home. Olivia and Gray are two polar opposites, but then again are they really? Their instant connection but not realizing it, the multiple save the days from Gray even though she's independent af, and then the fun Ghosts that help Olivia realize that she needs this man in her life make this story so fun, light and loveable even when the serious moments happen. Beautiful story, great character development, and it's Christmas time so you know you need a good romance for the time of year!

All is Bright is a short novella that is sort of ghosts of Christmas past themed.
Olivia is comfortable with ghosts and the dead. So she buys a house near a graveyard. The home needs work though so she hires a handyman to help with that. Grayson and Olivia have a great connection, but Olivia is scared to open up herself to love. She finds herself falling for Grayson though and needs a little nudge in the right direction. So the ghosts step in to show her what her life would be like if he doesn't let love in.
My opinion might be a little biased because I love everything Andrea Janelle writes. Her writing is captivating and keeps me engaged. But the story itself is great. It has great christmas vibes with a little spook from the ghosts. Great story.

A re telling parallel to Ghosts of Christmas Past.
We meet Olivia and Ophelia, sisters who have relied on each other for most of their lives.
Ophelia has a boyfriend, belonging to someone. Olivia has chosen not to trust for many reasons which leads to her being alone.
Olivia meets Gray, a retired soldier who now owns a general contracting business, hired to fix her old home.
I have never been interested in the paranormal but I concede in saying, this was good!
Olivia and Gray come to realize that making peace with what harms you, leads to fulfilment in the future.
Insecurities and doubts are set aside in order to move forward.
The things we can learn from ghosts.

Now this is how you do a Christmas novella. Oooohhhhh it was so good. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go with our Grinchy characters but that ending was well worth the wait. So hot and such a great conclusion. Gray is a lovely man. Yes he’s rough around the edges and grumpy and grinchy. But he shows so much respect and care for the people in his life. Olivia irked me at moments but I understand why she did the things that bothered me. She had to be written that way for this to work. All in all, the author created a unique mash up of multiple Christmas tropes/storylines with elements I hadn’t seen in any others. And overall I loved this novella.

Ollie just bought a house that needs A LOT of work done. She hires a contractor and hopes they can get the work done before Christmas. Grayson is a contractor that is dealing with a lot from his past. The big thing they have in common is their dislike for Christmas. As they spend time together, they both catch feelings, which Ollie struggles with. One night, Ollie is visited by the ghost of Christmas past, present, and future. There's a snow storm in which Grayson goes to get her so she's not stranded alone. They are watching a movie together when they give into their feelings. Can Ollie fully trust enough to open her heart?

Grayson & Olivia

So happy to get Olivia’s story. We met Ollie in her sister Phee’s story at Halloween time so it’s only right we meet Ollie at Christmas. Gray seems to be just the right man for her. They have that instant spark that I love. But they both have their own shadows in their pasts - ghosts, so to speak. I absolutely love their story! They both fought love in their own way, but the magic of Christmas, maybe with a little extra help, got them through. So good! 💜

All Is Bright is book seven of The Christmas Playlist Series.

This is a spooky, Christmasy read. Olivia was absolutely adorable. I loved her character and thought she was a great match for Grayson. He is a it grumpy with the holidays, but we see him come a bit out of his shell for Olivia. They both have their own guards up but the more time they spend together, the more their walls start to crumble. With the help of some ghosts, we get to see these two come together and have a magical Christmas.

When the Ghosts of Christmas come to visit…
Olivia bought an old derelict house, and Grayson “Gray” has been hired to do the restoration.

After their initial meeting where he rescued her, prickly Olivia intrigued him…

There’s something with her family - her sister is a ghost hunter, she spends a lot of time in cemeteries, and she channels spirits!

Drama and conflict, angst, cute kittens, and a Scrooge style confrontation - this was an enjoyable read.

Thanks Andrea, and Twisted Chaos, for my advanced copy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ // 🌶 🌶

All Is Bright by Andrea Jenelle is Book 7 in The Christmas Playlist. It is the one that felt the most like a Christmas classic with modern touches.

The Ghosts of Christmas past visiting a the FMC after she moves into a haunted house by a graveyard? Let's go, right? She's witchy. Trusts her crystals more than relationships. Yet, the contractor that she hired for her home, can't get her out of his head. He wants in, she wants out.

It was a great cozy read with a little bit of 'cinnamon' spice. 😏

So, glad to have been able to read this story in the series.

Ollie (Olivia) and Grayson is a kind of cute grump/ grump story. She has had a rough go of it thanks to a junkie mother and foster care and he’s now retired ex-military after 20yrs. Their lives end up entangled after he becomes a contractor on her old house. While he gives up fighting his feels feelings faster than her, he’s resilient and doesn’t really take no for an answer. I liked the little bit of supernatural plot and wished more of It was blended into the story. I felt a little cheated and wanted him more involved because it had get almost foreshadowed earlier in the book.

This was a mix of Christmas/Ghost of Christmas past. Olivia talks to ghosts, sleep walks, and believes in the healing power of crystals.
The parts I enjoyed the most were ones between the MCs not having anything to do with paranormal situations. Both main characters don’t care about Christmas for their own personal reasons. But a ghosts that comes into contact with Emma makes her see that she needs to move past the bad memories in order to make new ones.
If you enjoy ghosts, small town, and a some romance this would be ideal for you.

OK Christmas romantic novella. I liked the slightly paranormal feel to this story. Olivia comes from a family of ‘sensitives’ and has purchased a run-down property which she is restoring near a graveyard, Enter grumpy local handyman, Gray who she engages to assist her with some of the restoration work. I enjoyed the development of their romance as they both fight it and struggle with the Christmas season. A gentle tale with some spooky moments.

Cute Christmas novella about Olivia and Grayson, both grinches but small town life changes that. Olivia moved to town and bought a rundown farm house and Grayson is her contractor. They slowly start to get closer and share their tragic pasts. Olivia is scared of getting too close to people and she's visited by three ghosts of Christmas, much like Scrooge. Can she realize that she can't always be scared and maybe Grayson is worth the risk?

I really enjoyed how Gray was the other version of a retired military man, not the overbearing & dominant type, but the caring, protector. That was just the right type Ollie needed.

I always love the mystical and magical stories and this was a good balance of real life and spirituality without being in your face or over the top "out there." But it that's not your thing, the story line is still really great.

The Christmas Carol story line tie-in was also very fun and unexpected :)

This novella was everything I hoped for!! We met Ollie in No ghosts and dreamed about her chocolate cake. All is Bright is her story, embracing an unknown future and remembering how to celebrate Christmas again. Watching her fall in love, and heal from her past while braving a new future and some giggles along the way! This was a perfect read for getting into the holiday spirit!

This was a great short insta-love story. I liked how it had a bit of a Grinch and A Christmas Carol vibe. The attraction between Ollie and Gray was fun to watch. I loved how Ollie seemed so carefree on the surface but actually had scars that made her build up walls. Gray realizing his feelings so quickly and deciding to wait for her was really sweet. I really enjoyed this read.

Such a cute story. I loved that this connected to No Ghosts in the One Dark Night anthology. I also loved that the author used the ghostly connection with Christmas to do a Christmas Carol-esque bit.
