I can't fault this - does exactly what you'd expect. Sparkle is a bubbly writer, full of enthusiasm and care for their subject. There's a sensible sectioning of different waves of flags which sensibly demarcates the different eras of activism and identities - so the Stonewall generation are rendered distinct from the Tumblr generation, etc. There's plenty to learn about the increased self-identities generated by greater connectivity. There's a minimum of editorialising but where they do intervene in the narrative, Sparkle is witty and careful. Would make for a lovely present for anyone who ever wondered what the demi-ace flag is or what aegosexual might mean. Worth also saying that the book is designed really nicely - given that the flags concerned have a load of colours, it's tastefully designed and laid out with a view to making everything clear and readable. Top marks.
