English title Southern Tsunami:46 chapters, 6 extras. What a sweet, delightful unexpected gem! Thank you so much @noori for the recommendation 🥰 Almost all my notes/thoughts I wrote down while reading were about the ML so this review ended up being mostly about him…
MC Wei Jiayi : a sweet bean! agreeable, wants to avoid conflict, photographer, no family support, kind of bully-able? ML Zhao Jing: extremely wealthy with a supportive family, CEO of his own company, used to getting his way, as personable as Jiang Cheng but there’s so much more to him, naive and dense when it comes to interpreting others’ words and actions in relationships, major decreased societal awareness but also a very smart and adept CEO carrying himself well in public, surprisingly NOT prideful, so candid and direct he’s extremely trustworthy, respectful of boundaries
More about Zhao Jing 😂 🚜Somehow makes his self centered narcissism cute with his internal thoughts and thankfully does not actually cause any harm with his actions 🚜Smothering, but in the cutest most oblivious way 🚜Inexperienced in relationships: misreading, misinterpreting, and miscommunicating, but again in a cute and funny way 🚜 Orchestrates everything and then when WJ follows through “he’s clearly falling for me” 😂 🚜 Jealous before he even knew he liked him 🚜 Needed coaxing but didn’t know he needed it 🚜 Pursued WJ thinking he’s helping WJ discover and confess his feelings
Okay now about the book… 🌊 Annoyance to forced friends to lovers 🌊 Slice of life, very light hearted comedic tone, fluff with little angst 🌊 Unreliable narrator when it’s the ML 😂😂😂 🌊Dual POV- honestly felt like we got more ML POV and since the ML is a very unreliable narrator, the differences in the viewpoints on things is hilarious 🌊Green flag gong but you will think he might be toxic at first
Quick summary since there isn’t one on GR: Tsunami hits an island where both MC and ML are attending a wedding. They had previously met before (years ago in college) and it wasn’t too pleasant. Now they are forced to be together and they start learning neither are like they thought/remembered.
Some things I wasn’t crazy about but it didn’t bother me too much: -The amount of small white lies that WJ told just to coax and avoid upsetting him was 🙄 -The extreme wealth got a little ridiculous at times but I think that was the point
**This would be the perfect read if you are looking for something short, low angst, modern with older characters and don’t need anything too serious!
I didn’t expect to like this this much, but here I am. Both main characters showed touching growth and development as they drew closer, and I loved watching their journey from mutual dislike to semi-forced friendship to lovers. I honestly have nothing to critique just know that from now on, whenever I see an excavator, I’ll be thinking of Zhao Jing.
