Two men bound by grief. One love they were never meant to find.
When Rowan returns to Harbor’s End, he isn’t looking for closure—only escape. Music has failed him, New York has chewed him up, and grief for his mother has left him hollow. The last thing he expects is to collide with Elias, the man his mother married in secret—the stranger who carries her memory like a wound.
Elias never thought he’d see Rowan again. He never thought he’d want to. But loneliness does strange things, and grief carves strange hungers. In the quiet coastal town that has seen both men at their worst, a forbidden connection begins to spark.
It’s wrong. It’s dangerous. It’s everything they shouldn’t want. But some melodies refuse to be silenced.
Greyson Vale is an exciting new voice in gay romance fiction. With a talent for crafting swoon-worthy love stories filled with crackling chemistry, Greyson's novels explore the complexities of modern gay relationships and the search for lasting connection.
✨✨✨“But that was the thing about grief. It made you stupid, made you cruel, made you lash out at anyone who was still breathing when the person you really wanted to scream at was six feet underground. Two years gone and people expected you to be “better” by now, to have processed it all into neat little boxes of acceptance and healing. They wanted your pain to follow some prescribed timeline, to fade politely into something manageable that didn't make them uncomfortable at dinner parties. But grief didn't follow anyone else's schedule. It lived in your bones, showed up uninvited at random moments, turned ordinary conversations into minefields. Some days it felt fresh as an open wound, other days like a dull ache you'd learned to carry. Either way, it was always there, and pretending otherwise just made everything worse.”✨✨✨
This book was very well written in terms of how grief effects us. The author wrote many poignant lines in the first half of the book, I kept highlighting things that were said that I felt really stated what grief truly is. It’s non linear, it changes who we are and it lives inside us forever. Greyson captured that perfectly.
The plot twists were twisting, and the smut was smutting.
Overall a really solid novel, minus a few editing/pacing issues.

Thank You to Greyson and their team for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, this Book was intense! It was challenging for me in some places and made me think about my own limits and values. The Story had everything to offer, from emotions such as grief, loss, and fear to tenderness, feel save, and love ❤️. Elias and Rowan are connected by the woman who left them far too early, Elias' wife, who is also Rowan's mother. We accompany the two of them and witness how something new emerges from something fragile and very sensitive. Although there are many obstacles to a future together and they encounter a lot of resistance in their small town, they fight for it. Forgiveness is granted and second chances are given. Let's get to the spice, which Greyson is really good at 😅🥵🔥: If you love long, detailed, kinky, very filthy, and hot scenes, then this book is for you. I can recommend it.
Music is more than melodies, more than picking up an instrument, playing notes and so forth. Music comes from the soul, it is felt, heard, lived and breathed, its melodies are our life blood and that is one of the feelings Grayson Vale wants us to take from this story. If you can resonate with the concept you'll resonate with this story too. Yes, it is morally grey for a number of reasons, yes there is a lot of pain and hurt that the characters work through in the only ways they know how but underlying it all there is a sense of hope. At no point, despite how lost the characters feel, do we feel we will lose them, we simply hope they will realise their losses, their grief, are a part of them that can be lived with, they simply need to find the right pathways.
Of course, as with every good love story, every redemption arc, there are the bad guys, the ones who are out to achieve their own aims regardless of who is along the path and. itis surprising where those people come from, who they connect to. There are also all the good people, those who can see if not understand the pain and are patiently waiting for that time when their help will be accepted.
Rowan has been reeling for a long time. His mother's death has been the tipping point and the one thing that finally takes him home. It is also the reason that he meets his stepfather, if indeed Elias could be considered such. Technically he married Rowan's mother, they were married for three years, but that is where the technicality ends, where the grey areas form and where interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. They both have memories of Rowan's mother, they have a shared grief and they have a shared link through the music which feeds both their souls.
Grayson Vale's 'Stolen Harmony' is an exploration of grief, of love that is born from loss, of crossing boundaries that have been set by society. It is dark at times, it is potentially forbidden at times but it is always soul-achingly beautiful, it is the story of two men, searching their souls. It is the heart-breaking story of being broken but finding your way back to being whole. It is the breathtakingly beautiful story of love. Handle it with care, handle yourself with care, read it as slowly as you need, it's not going anywhere and its message is timeless.

Stolen Harmony is a book that doesn't just tell you about grief, it makes you feel it in your bones. Greyson Vale has crafted a profoundly emotional and often messy story about two shattered men trying to find a reason to live again after an unimaginable loss.
The story follows Elias, who is drowning in grief and guilt after the death of his wife, and Rowan, her son, who has returned to his hometown a broken man, having lost his music and himself to self-destructive habits. Their shared loss creates a painful, complicated bond that is the core of this book. The portrayal of their grief is raw and authentic; a particular scene at the graveside shattered my heart in the best way.
This is not a simple, easy romance. It's a raw and often difficult journey of two people who seem to be the worst possible match for each other, yet might be the only ones who can truly understand the other's pain. The way they slowly begin to heal through music is beautiful and provides a glimmer of hope in their dark world.
Be warned: this book will take you on a rollercoaster. The character dynamics are intensely complicated, and you will likely find yourself frustrated with certain choices (I certainly was!). A particular side character, Victor, is one of the most infuriating and well-written antagonists I've encountered, masterfully crafted to provoke strong emotions.
While I didn't always agree with the characters' paths, their journey felt real and ultimately rewarding. This is a story about finding light in the deepest darkness, about forgiveness, and about the messy, unconventional ways we sometimes find our way back to ourselves. If you're looking for a romance that is sweet and simple, this might not be for you. But if you want a story that is emotionally devastating, utterly gripping, and ultimately hopeful, Stolen Harmony is a masterpiece.
Content Notes/Triggers: Heavy themes of grief and loss, explicit sexual content, self-destructive behaviors, including drinking and smoking.
🪡 dnf @68% This book said “grief” and heard “family-wide hookup tour.”
WTF was this plotline. Rowan loses his mom. Elias loses his wife of 3 years. And apparently, the logical next step is Rowan returning two years later to drown in alcohol, questionable decisions, and every male relative within a 10-mile radius.
Now listen, I get grief. I get trauma. I even get Rowan catching feelings for his stepdad (whom he didn’t know existed until page 12). But what I don’t get is how this man managed to sleep with, drum-roll please:
— Step-grandfather(Elias’s dad, who’s pushing 60) — Step-uncle(Elias’s brother, who was in love with Rowan’s mom because why not ) — Elias himself(finally, at 40%) — Elias and his two friends, Tom & David @60%(Rowan was all for it)
At this point, I was less concerned about Rowan’s grief and more about whether the family tree needed a firewall.I feel if you breathed in his direction Rowan would have slept with you.
And look, I’m not here to kink shame. But if this was going to be a “Why Choose” or reverse harem situation with bonus incest-adjacent nonsense, maybe mention that in the blurb? Just a little heads-up so I don’t walk into a grief group therapy session that turns into a family-wide orgy.
This was a boatload of Eww™, and I wouldn’t touch the smut with a ten-foot pole dipped in bleach.
I love the way this author writes complicated characters. They are also so interesting and engaging and I love reading their point of views. There hasn’t been a book written by this author that I didn’t love. The writing is always so incredible and the characters always have suck amazing chemistry and that goes for this book with Elias and Rowan as well.

‘I realized I'd been standing in the doorway for at least five minutes, just watching. Like a creeper. A creeper who was definitely developing feelings for his dead mother's husband, which was fucked up on multiple levels that I wasn't ready to examine.’
The visceral, painful prose of Stolen Harmony makes it more than a novel about grieving; it is suffering itself. Greyson Vale tells the narrative of Elias and Rowan, two men whose lives have been shattered by unfathomable tragedy, as they grudgingly make their way to recovery. The story is complicated and full of intense emotions. You won't find this romance in a dictionary. It's real, terrifying, and full of twists and turns. While Elias struggles to come to terms with the loss of his wife, her estranged son Rowan arrives home distraught and suicidal. Music provides a sliver of hope in their tumultuous relationship. The characters' journeys felt genuine, even when I disagreed with their judgments on occasion. In a terrible way. This is a narrative about forgiving oneself and others, about healing through a non-linear process, and about tripping over grief. That isn't neat. You can't anticipate it. Still, I will never forget it. Stolen Harmony isn't the best choice if you're hoping for a lighthearted, escape-the-world romance. This book is a masterwork if you are prepared to be emotionally devastated by a wonderfully written narrative that ends on a fragile note of hope.

Another vulnerable and challenging story that takes us and the main characters Elias and Rowan through heartbreak and grief and feelings of inadequacy. Also through enough kinky horniness that one might need another shower. Maybe not the kind of the book. But no spoilers.
I think sometimes we as readers have to gracefully remember that we might know what the books end game might be - it’s still a romance novel - but that the same cannot be said for the characters living the story. So we have to let them make their own mistakes even if I might hurt.
There definitely are some questionable things happening here and decisions that I might not make but in guess that’s a good thing. A reminder that life is messy and that stories should reflect that and that some times we have to sit with things being uncomfortable for us.
On par for Greyson vale’s books honestly.
Also why after reading a few of his books am I still surprised when weird and horny things happen. This is definitely on me. Or maybe I am just sad my mind won’t let me enjoy a scene when I cannot approve (personally).
Give this a chance if you like a challenge and if you are not afraid of things getting messy. And I promise there is a soft landing.
Greyson Vale is one of the best new writers of MM romance fiction I’ve had the opportunity to read to review. This story is no exception. Talented musician Rowan returns to his hometown two years after the death of his mother. Rowan is a mess, drinking and engaging in unsafe and degradation-kink sex. Elias is Rowan’s step-father, who’s found it difficult to move on, but does continue to keep his music production business going. Rowan and Elias are drawn together to remember the woman who connected them. They’re also sexually attracted to each other.
I can’t say I completely enjoyed this book. The trigger warnings are important, and I was aware the subject matter would be gritty. It was grittier and more intense than I expected. It made me uncomfortable, and I nearly stopped reading it altogether. There is family dynamics that would pay for a room full of therapists’ student loans, and enough kink to shame the Marquis de Sade.
The heart of the story is good. Two lost souls, finding one another over and against the taboos that would keep them apart, and triumphing in the end.

Stolen Harmony isn’t just a book about grief—it is grief, captured in raw, aching prose. Greyson Vale delivers a deeply emotional, often messy story about two broken men—Elias and Rowan—bound by unimaginable loss and slowly, painfully finding their way toward healing. This isn’t your typical romance. It’s complicated, intense, and hauntingly real. Elias is drowning in guilt over his wife’s death; Rowan, her estranged son, returns home lost and self-destructive. Their connection is turbulent, but music becomes a fragile thread of hope between them. While I didn’t always agree with the characters’ decisions, their journeys felt honest. Painfully so. This is a story about stumbling through grief, about the non-linear path of healing, about forgiveness—both of others and of ourselves. It’s not tidy. It’s not predictable. But it is unforgettable. If you’re looking for a sweet, escapist romance, Stolen Harmony may not be the book for you. But if you're ready for an emotionally devastating, beautifully written story that ultimately leaves you with a fragile sense of hope, this book is a masterpiece
Ethan lost his wife three years ago. He survives by drowning himself in work, without opening up to others. He just puts on a mask and carries on. Rowan, his stepson, is the complete opposite. With a somewhat problematic relationship with his mother, he is on a path to self-destruction through alcohol.
Rowan returns to his hometown to pick up the pieces of his life, which was once filled with music.
Ethan and Rowan reconnect through their shared passion for music.
This book uses romance as an excuse to talk about grieving for the death of a loved one. There is no right way to deal with it. Everyone handles it as best they can. Some drown themselves in work so they don't have time to feel anything, while others drown themselves in other things, because it is incapable of processing pain.
+I want to thank the author for the arc. This is my voluntary and honest opinion+
I think this is my third Greyson Vale book and I've loved them all! This is one probably hurt the most.
This is a stepson/step father romance. I love this trope like LOVE. I want you guys to know that up until I read Stolen Harmony the most broken step/dad/son book I had read was Bad Wrong Things. This book beats it in the pain and the grief you literally feel the pain both Ro has for his mum and the pain Elias has for his dead wife.
This book is so intense, but so beautifully written. I personally loved the plot and the smut was to die for lol Greyson give me more painful sad broken men who love each other because I love the way they hurt!
10/10 read it ASAP!
Thank you for the ARC
PS this Author has the most beautiful covers - they are ART
When G.V says to check YOUR triggers.. you listen. I, personally, love being able to go in blind and getting to know the characters, completely unbiased. G.V did NOT disappoint. In fact this story far exceeded my (non existent) expectations.
This is my third G.V book and I am a huge fan. The writing gets better and better. The way he can write broken hearts and tattered souls.. like no one’s business is 🤌🏼🖤
This is a second chance at breathing. This is gritty and raw but so worth the ride. With every page you FEEL the heart break of both men. Ro is off the path of life. He is struggling beyond what he is capable of dealing with. When I tell you he absolutely broke my heart, he shattered it.
If your mental can handle it.. give GV a read, its emotional heart breaks with an HEA.
I'm not normally a step son/step dad romance fan but I love Greyson and wanted to give it a try! As always he gives you sooo much intensity from emotions to spice.
Ro + Elias are two broken men (and I mean BROKEN). They go through so much with the passing of their mom/wife and can't seem to find themselves again. The way Greyson is able to paint the story of grief got me in all my feelings.
The plot twists are SOOOO good. The spice was trademark Greyson. I ate it up.
Thank you Greyson for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for a free review!
What do you do when grief overwhelms you? When your breath is caught, and breathing becomes impossible? Elias is stuck in the vicious what-if and should have after his wife dies. While the world moves on, he is stuck in time until his step-son Rowan comes to stay to remember his mother and find himself. Rowan’s pain and regret are painful to watch, and the way he copes is heartbreaking. While the story deals with taboo, it is very emotionally touching and well-written.
Phew, what a ride! 😮💨 This book was heavy. Both characters are grieving the same person, and somehow, in all that pain, they find each other. 💔 Through music and connection, they start to heal—slowly but deeply. 🎶 Their journey wasn’t easy, but the ending? So worth it. ✨
There were some character choices I didn’t fully agree with—like the Kepler scene. Totally subjective, I get why it happened, but it just wasn’t for me. That aside, Victor was such a well-written character and really stood out.
Stolen Harmony is a gripping mix of passion, vulnerability, and second chances. At its heart, it’s a romance that grows from pain into something truly beautiful: two guys brought together by fate, united by music, and healed by love. The story balances angst and tenderness, pulling you into the raw struggles of trust and belonging while keeping the sizzling chemistry alive that makes you fly through the pages. Vale gives us an emotional and captivating read that sticks with you long after you finish.

1st book I've read by this author but his writing is excellent and I will continue to read more of his stories. This is a sad story about 2 people losing someone they love and how they try to deal with their grief. Rowans destructive behavior after his mother's death almost destroys him but finally leads him to Elias, his stepfather. They eventually become lovers but are forced to hide it. A really sad love story that eventually finds its way to a HEA.

This story had its ups and downs for me but overall I felt nothing but love for the characters and hope that they would find each other in the end. The story wrapped up beautifully. It was all so well written and the way grief was handled was perfectly done. Truly a wonderful book that I cannot wait for people to get their hands on.
This is a Great Story to Read about grief and loss. Elias is upset and grieving the loss of his wife. Rowan was estranged from his mother and step father. When Rowan's mother dies he is at a loss and cannot function. This story is about the struggles that both Elias and Rowan face. Will it bring them closer together??? Will they find a reason to go their separate ways???.

This was so good! Between Rowan mourning his mom while his step-father (must read for explanation of the relationship) is also mourning in his way. It was explosive when they realize their feelings are more than bonding over grief. It was very well written.

Rowan and Elias reconnect unexpectedly. Despite the previous forbidden nature of their relationship, they can't ignore how they feel. Steamy, dark, grief stricken, small town vibes and more, I love the way Grayson writes his books.

While I really enjoyed the story and the characters, I had a hard time wrapping my head around Rowan sleeping with all the people he did. I feel like he had a major problem that was never quite addressed. I am glad that Elias and Rowan figured out their shit by the end though. And good riddance Victor!
Amazing, emotional story of Rowan and Elias. Both trying to deal with loss, they find love, but one they fight because of their histories. Couldn't stop reading, even through the tears. Can't recommend enough.
Wow that was certainly an emotional journey! An exceptionally well written intense storyline that was so emotional yet compelling to follow. Absolutely loved the mc's and was so enamoured with the outcome.

Well dang this MM is such a good read. I have a few authors that I read that can actually do MM well. This author is being added to that list because this is such perfection. So good.

This is not a sweet happy book. Both Elias amd Rowen have strong baggage but, man, that chemistry. There is also some pretty dark issues and it's slightly taboo so read the tw. That being said, it's 💯 worth the roller coaster of emotions and the ending is beautiful.
The grief that both Rowan and Elias go through was personally hard to read but I also enjoyed it alot. I might have a love hate relationship with Viktor. So far Greyson Vale never disappoints me🤍
