Nightmare Realm Summoner 2

Rate this book
The Apocalypse is the most fun Alex has had in his entire life.

He’s having a grand time fighting every challenge the System throws at him — and making up a few of his own along the way. His antics have earned him a few friends… and a hell of a lot more enemies.

The Outworlder Families, invading forces from planets long since Initialized by the System, have arrived to 274-50 to loot it of every resource and scrap of power they can get their thieving hands on.
They're deadly, ruthless, and will stop at nothing to get what they want.

The latest subject of their attention is a Town Token, a rare artifact that can create an incredibly powerful System-recognized town. It’s an immense opportunity that has every single one of them frothing at the mouth.

An opportunity that Alex just snagged out from right under their noses. The Outworlders aren’t going to be too happy about that…

But that’s exactly what Alex is counting on.

So much worse than the first

God's favorite idiot! That should be Alex's title. We figure out what his true power is. Unassailable plot armor. He can do the stupidest thing and suffer no consequences. Again and again. In fact, he will have gained more power because of the stupid thing he did. After a while it's gets boring. 'Oops, my spine is broken, again. Oh well, I'll be right as rain in just a minute.' that actually happened. Twice! Alex seems to be a poor copy of other MCs (Zach, Jake, Jason all come to mind). What do they have in common? They all suffer the consequences of their actions. Alex never does
There were a couple of points that I almost stopped. The first was the town building section. I like town building, but in this case the book would be better if it was just 'push the button and 'poof' town. OR! It could have been used to give some consequences. Alex throws his tantrum and Keeper nopes him into the void and the rest of that section is Alex learning a valuable lesson. But as always Alex is super awesome!
The other one was during the 'very philosophical' visualization section. The one where we are told that Alex will never learn or change, and that he will always be rewarded.
Normally I give most books an extra star to get past the Amazon algorithm, but I'm not going to here. The first book had great potential, and to be followed by by this one... I just can't. Tom out

Another smash hit by Actus!

Follow Alex and Claire as they fight their way through 274-50 & The Mirrorlands making enemies of all the great family’s and taking their place in the newly integrated world. If you read book one it’s a no brainer to check this out. Actus puts out some of the best fiction in this genre so I can say with a 100% certainly this is worth the read!

What an Awesome book!

Loved the sequel. Great character progression and while not as much setup as book one, it did close out the arc nicely. Looking forward to book 3!

Finished reading it within a day of release , couldn’t stop. Planning on re-reading again before checking out Actus’ royal road. Just so I don’t miss anything.

Bestest book evarrr! Get Nightmare Realm Summoner and enjoy!

Ohhhh! Wow! Nightmare Realm Summoner 2 re-empathezis not just how great the book is, but also how good Actus is! Their writing style is friggintastic! You can't go wrong when you pick up one of their books! This book purdy much starts where the last one ended Alex, Claire and Orchid having escaped into the forest, from the town of Valley Ford and the heavy handed ruler, Invictus. Only then stumbling into a campsite of natives and outworlders, who've not only been struggling to survive, but have also been in hiding from, well...like everyone. Our intrepid team manage to form an alliance knowing full well that the camp was filled with much weaker beings, that most definitely needed training... training to make all, including themselves stronger! As they only have a few days before the Region Boss wakes up! But training isn't gonna be a problem since Alex is able to purdy much flip back and forth into the Mirrorlands at will! Where the monsters are plentiful and stronger. It's always easier to grind for power when you fight monsters that's stronger, assuming you win of course... 😆 There might be a heist and a engineer to induct dragging him back to their newly formed town. Ohhhh man I can't wait 'til yah meet up with Mite...
So yeah grab the book better yet get the audiobook because Actus and Robb Morrow make a hella team.

Here's a couple of quotes:

"...wondering if introducing a blood-drinking Dhampir to slasher movies was a smart idea or not."

“The more you swear, the less effective it is. Save it for the right time, and it’ll hit way harder."

Nightmare Realm Summoner 2 sharpens everything the first book promised, delivering escalating stakes and deeper mechanical complexity without losing the breakneck momentum that made the opener addictive. Actus expands the Mirrorlands with confidence, layering political intrigue and faction dynamics into Alex’s relentless progression while keeping the summoner gameplay front and center. The monster roster evolves in satisfying ways, with new captures and power synergies that are exciting, and Alex’s tactical creativity finally gets room to breathe beyond pure survival/growing mode. Claire gains meaningful agency here, stepping into her own arc rather than simply occupying space beside the protagonist. The prose tightens considerably—those awkward redundancies from book one are largely absent, replaced by cleaner action sequences and sharper dialogue. The series finds its stride by doubling down on what works: high-risk gambles, inventive magic systems, and a protagonist who treats impossible odds as invitations rather than warnings. It’s a powerful, confident sequel that proves this series has real staying power.

3 Stars out of 5

This book is, in some ways, an improvement over the previous installment, and in other ways, not so much. I’m usually someone who really enjoys long battle scenes in LitRPGs, but in this case, I found myself getting bored at times. Some of the fights drag on longer than necessary and lose their impact because of it.

Where the book really shines for me is in the character relationships and the political elements of the story. Those aspects were easily my favorite parts and felt more engaging than the action. Alex still rubs me the wrong way occasionally, though not all the time, and he does feel a bit more tolerable here than before. Claire, once again, stands out as the strongest character in the series for me, and I’m genuinely excited to learn more about her background. Orchid is also a great character and adds a lot to the group dynamic.

Overall, I can’t say this was a huge improvement over the last book, but it was still enjoyable. If you liked the previous installment, you’ll almost certainly enjoy this one as well.

Meh... The plot was ok... The writing felt bad, the author/narrator tried to sound grandiose and sophisticated, but came off as kind of amateurish, like a highschool student trying to sound like a good writer and not pulling it off.

The characters spent a large portion of the book setting up a town and building a portal building so that they could use a merchant, all to help them fight a big bad region boss. But the mc didn't choose any upgrades to the town that really helped, and the only thing the merchant sold him that effected the fight were some healing pills. Felt like a lot of wasted time. The upgrades he did get will probably pay off later but if he was desperate to get any advantage to beat the boss, doesn't really make much sense. The one upgrade he bought that was supposed to help during the fight was never used, even when there were several opportunities for it to do so.

NO SPOILERS - ISH.

I can't really point to the WHY or WHAT of the story that has me hooked. I have read many a LITRPG tale, yet somehow Actus, the author, has created a story that I have found really engaging. More so than the other LITRPGs I have read up to now.

Alex, our MC, takes on challenges knowing he's probably biting more than he should. Challenging above his power level. And as a reader you know he has plot armor that will help him rise above the challenge. But it's OK because the character interactions and action are compelling enough that it's not a flaw. You are still engaged, seeing what is introduced to the story. Plus, I'm waiting for Alex's summons to gain sentience. That will kick the story even higher!

The story draws you in, even though we're just glimpsing bits of what is to come. Book 2 moved things along enough to fill in some story gaps but also left you wanting more.

Much shorter yet more problems

I liked the story well enough but the length of the last book spoiled me and this one just wasn't long enough to fully satisfy me.

Also, more errors. Leftover letters, incorrect capitalization. So strange.

One of my problems with the story has been that everything seems to get handed to the MC and that remains true in the book as well. It might feel worse because of the short length of the book, but it felt particularly egregious this time around. I've come to expect that the MC will succeed at everything and get maximum output in every situation; change my mind.

All my gripes aside, I did enjoy the progression of the story. Town! Merchant! Power! Great Tide / Valley Ford (IYKYK).

I'll keep going with the series but it's not on my top shelf. Maybe the next book will bring the series up a tier.

This sequel is action packed as Alex and Claire take the warped town token and head towards where the region boss will awaken. Orchid follows them, convinced of their loyalty to the Starfallen family.

The three of them stumble upon a gathering of outworlders hiding with a group of natives. These outworlders have forsaken the people who sent them, refusing to take up the cause of colonizing the planet and just wanting to settle peacefully. Most of them were people whose own planets had been taken over and had no loyalty to the people who had enslaved them. This ragtag group of survivors offers Alex the perfect chance to build his own town. If he can get them strong enough to fight the world boss.

I couldn't finish. 33% of the book was all I could handle

I just couldn't do it. The story was nowhere interesting enough to keep my attention and the sheer amount of characters that keep getting introduced to a story that all start with the letter A genuinely had me forgetting who was whom.

Part of the story is based on a lie with one of the new main characters and honestly it was just painful to watch...er...read. 33% into the book and nothing happened for character development or story arch.

I genuinely hope you enjoy the book more than I did. This is not for me!

Such a fun series so far!

Alex and Claire back at it again. Learning about town tokens, and trips back to the mirror lands. Just a fun read, I enjoy it bc I don’t have to think that hard. It’s not overtly stat heavy or always going over their stats as a filler. Fun, tough battles. Learning more about his and others powers. I enjoy his banter with people stronger than him. Can’t wait for book 3 to come out!

Weak Three, Lots of Fluff

The beginning of this book is OK. The MC and sidekick are still likable, but the fights drag on and on. Lots of repetitive sentences, and expressions, which got old. The last 30% or so of this book the author might have not been sober, IMO. He really went down a rabbit hole on the who setting up his mind palace. It again went on and on. I might read the third book just to see if it gets back to how the first one was written.

is it tomorrow

Quite a busy few days for our heroes, taking on the Outlanders, building a town, finding allies, trash talking boss monsters (hope you have a spare harvester).

How does a soul look at itself? Going into your soul palace, going deeper and deeper into an infinite world, learning about your soul…as a soul, are we all suppressed deities? Could everyone be an Outlander, strong at home, but willingly limiting ourselves in order to gain advantage and adventure?

Once again the story here does not disappoint. I have no complaints here. The plot is great, characters are interesting, the System is understandable but has hidden depths, the world id very fund to explore, everything is great. This series has a great way of constantly giving you more while still dangling even greater rewards and mysteries in front of you. No notes; check it out.

Can’t wait to read more!

Shorter book than the first one, but a good one nonetheless. Some mysteries good revealed but more mysteries took their place. I hate cliffhangers and I am regretting not waiting for more books to have been published before I picked this up. Oh well, was worth it nonetheless, 10/10

Short

Felt like half the length of the first book. Errors creeping in, and a fair few of them. Story is starting to get weighed down by too many systems which detract from the main story. MC keeps waxing poetic and going into far too much detail of thought processes which are pointless and add nothing to the story. Better than most but starting to lose its charm.

A shenanigan filled follow up!

Town token acquired and now the team has to use it, which leads to all sorts of fun! There's also a large looming threat, and some cool progression! Standard stuff really, but it was a lot of fun!

Fun continuation of the series

I liked the continuation of the story.

I slightly wish that we'd get glimpses of Orchid or Invictus or other character's inner workings/thoughts, just in short snippets really.

loved it

Loved it. First time reading an RPG book but it was so good. I read the first book so fast and then the second but was done before I knew it. I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book. For this to be my first RPG book I’m obsessed.

Great continuation to the first book. The second book seems shorter than the first but still an amazing story. If you haven’t read this book yet, I totally recommend it. I cannot wait for book three.
