I'm a Third Order Carmelite who spent years as a catechist before I ever thought of myself as a writer. Every book I've written started the same way: I met someone — a canonized saint, a 17th-century monk, a prayer I'd said ten thousand times — and I couldn't stop thinking about what their ordinary life could teach an ordinary reader.

That's how you end up with a shelf as varied as mine. There's Teresa of Jesus of Los Andes, a Chilean teenager who loved sports and her friends and became a saint doing exactly that — I've written her story twice now, once as a fuller biography and once as Juanita, closer and more personal. There's Brother Lawrence, a monk who found God scrubbing pots, and whose way of praying changed how I pray. There's My Rosary, built from more than forty years of praying it myself. And there's A Catholic Response to the Jehovah's Witnesses, written after one too many kitchen-table conversations with Witnesses who knocked on our door.

Five books, one question running through all of them: what does it look like when someone ordinary gives their whole life to God?

I read as much as I write, so if you've got a question — about Teresa, about Brother Lawrence, about how a retired catechist in Wales ends up writing books at all — ask away below. I answer every one myself.

I live in Wales with my husband. Still writing. Still asking.
