This is an excellent resource that expanded upon what I had already learned from work experience and added new concepts to integrate. I did an initial read and will be revisiting to study more in-depth in conjunction with courses from IBM, HP, PMI, and Duke University.

This part was funny to me because this is essentially what I have a degree in:

PESTLE (political, economic, sociocultural, technological, legal, environmental), TECOP (technical, environmental, commercial, operational, political), or VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity).

No wonder why I ended up becoming a project manager!

I get that the PMP is for experienced PMs, so a high-level approach makes sense. Still, PMBOK 8 feels very abstract. It talks about principles and value, but not much about how projects actually run day to day. PMBOK 6 is more rigid, but it shows the full structure. You can see how everything connects from start to finish. For really understanding the mechanics behind project management, the 6th edition feels more complete.

Easy read and well structured

The PMBOK Guide was an easy read, with a clear structure and seamless progression between chapters. The material is organized in a way that reinforces understanding without unnecessary complexity. Overall, it provided a solid foundation and left me well prepared for the PMP exam.

the text still is overwhelming with repetitions but this version feels more hands-on, less removed from the reality, than the preceding two, the 6th and 7th editions

If you’ve ever gone to school with me or watched me study, you know I love to read a textbook cover to cover.

Well, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing the last few weeks.
