This is my first book by this author, and I will certainly consider reading more books in the future by her. The book’s a fine thriller, fast-paced, and it certainly keeps you riveted in the telling.

Ryan MacBride was drummed out of the FBI three years ago. He was certainly their star agent in finding kidnapped victims but now he’s a drunk and clearly a derelict. But then emails start coming into the FBI from a MacBride fan who wants him to find a kidnapped girl. Agent Grace Burrows is sent to Key West to bring him to Birmingham, Alabama, to start the “test.” And then we’re off to the races. A series of tests await MacBride from his “fan.” Meanwhile Grace has a secret that will play into the denouement of the story. A simmering romance between Grace and MacBride underplays the tense story - though the book could have survived without it. And, while I liked the ending, I think a little too much was going on to make it a wow!

I enjoyed this book. It’s plot driven, though the author does a fine job developing the characters. My comments above on what I may have not liked should not detract a future reader. This is a good thriller.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas & Mercer, for allowing me to read this ARC.

Yikes how have I only read a few? The ones I read were part of a series and I totally enjoyed them. In each there has been as sweet romance in additional to the mystery
“The Devoted Games” is a standalone and although it was intense. I didn’t like it at much as the others. When it started I was immediately disappointed with McBride’s language. .The others I read did not have profanity and I loved it! So was disappointed from the start with one.
I knew I liked this author so was sure I would like the story.

This story is a revised of ‘Nameless’ - this edition of ‘The Devoted Game’ includes editorial revisions.

This is my first audiobook ARC & I’m so glad it was.

I loved the story. The crimes & the relationships were such a perfect tie together. I LOVE a FMC & MMC that can handle their own but also work so well together.

I’ve never read this author before but by this book I will definitely be reading more.

Former FBI agent Ryan McBride's fall from grace as a rock star of the FBI destroyed his life. He is at rock bottom finding comfort in all of the things he used to avoid. He has to put on his big boy pants when a rookie agent comes knocking on his door asking for his help with an abduction. The kidnapper (who identifies as a "Devoted Fan") informs the FBI they will only converse and deal with Ryan. He is given puzzles, clues and a time limit in order to find the young woman. The devoted fan has full faith that only Ryan can save her. Now they have to solve the clues, while also trying to determine just who this person is that calls themselves a devoted fan, while also trying to save lives.

This book was a thriller and mystery with a very disturbed individual at the center of story. I love a good puzzle, and this story was one puzzle after another. As you learn more about Ryan, you can more fully appreciate his attitude, although a few times I wanted to reach in the book and smack him. Lives were on the line, so he needed to put his ego and his feelings aside. I did not care for his general attitude toward women (one in particular) as sex objects, but I guess it was just part of his personality. I did like the fact that working on the clues to save people seemed to re-energize him and remind him of the man he used to be. He was definitely good at his job.

This was a twisty one that kept my attention fully as I tried to figure out the end game for the devoted fan. Time was in short supply when the devoted fan was in charge. I was completely invested in this book once I started it.

Thank you to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Former FBI agent Ryan McBride was the FBI’s star agent but was pushed out when he was blamed for failing to rescue a kidnapped boy before he was killed. Spending his days partying and drinking in the Florida Keys, he thought he was well and truly finished with the FBI, until Special Agent Vivien Grace turned up on his doorstep with a request.

She tells him a six year old girl has been kidnapped and the FBI has received a letter from her abductor, calling himself ‘Devoted Fan’. He said he would kill her in 24h unless McBride was reinstated to the FBI and can solve his clues to find her. Whether McBride finds her before the deadline or not, ‘Devoted Fan’ has several more games up his sleeve for McBride, each becoming more difficult to solve in ever decreasing time frames.

This is a very twisty, fast paced thriller as McBride and Grace race against the clock time after time. It was easy to become invested in the race to the endgame as we try to work out who ‘Devoted Fan’ is and what he wants. It was good to see McBride change from a man who no longer had a purpose in life to one who was energised and back at the top of his game.

McBride clearly thinks about sex a lot, especially when he sees a beautiful woman and that is just part of who he is (although he does come across as quite misogynistic at times). He and Grace have obvious sexual chemistry from the get go, but I did find it really annoying how often the author told us that they kept staring at each other’s lips (do people really do that on meeting someone IRL?), especially in the opening chapters of the book. That might be a minor personal quibble, although I was surprised that this novel was heavier on the romance angle than in the author’s other books. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this gripping rollercoaster of a thriller.

I received the audio ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

Although this book is marketed as a “mystery,” I’d describe it more as a crime procedural with a strong psychological edge. Ryan McBride is a washed-up former FBI agent whose career imploded after a case involving a young boy went horribly wrong—and the blame landed squarely on him. He’s been living in the wreckage of that failure ever since.

But when a young girl goes missing, Agent Vivian Grace pulls him back into the FBI. The kidnapper refuses to speak to anyone but Ryan, claiming to be his most “devoted fan.” What starts as a single abduction quickly escalates as more people disappear, each one tied to the kidnapper’s twisted fascination with Ryan.

Grace and McBride are forced into a tense, high-stakes partnership as they race against the clock. And just when they think they understand the kidnapper’s motives, everything shifts—especially once Grace’s own buried past becomes entangled with the case.

The audio narration was excellent. I’m always a fan of dual narration, and having both the MMC and FMC voiced separately added to the story. This was my first Debra Webb novel, and I was genuinely impressed by the pacing, the plot, and the writing. The storyline hooked me from day one, and the unexpected thread of romance/spice was a fun surprise.

I'll definitely pick up more books from Webb in the future.

I suspect people will like this for the same reason I didn’t: the romance.

I wasn’t familiar with this author, so maybe this is on me. I should have reconsidered this book right from the start, because I was immediately annoyed by how often McBride comments on how attracted he is to Grace.

There is literally a line about the contents of her purse that says, “What flavor lip gloss did she use on those sexy lips?” Eye roll.

I listened to the audiobook and both narrators did a great job, but I grew pretty tired of the exaggerated “sexy, raspy voice” from the female narrator. Nothing against her, she was good. It was just the character in general.

What made this all worse is that the thriller elements of the book, at least the present-day crimes, were pretty PG. Yet of course we still had to throw in sex. They should both be fired from the FBI honestly. Super professional things going on for sure. (Sarcasm.)

Anyway, in case you haven’t guessed, this one was not for me. If I had known there were heavy romance elements, I wouldn’t have requested it.

I’m sure others will enjoy this and even wish there was more spice, but I like my thrillers without constant talk about sexy lips.

Thanks NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for this advanced listen.

The Devoted Game by Deborah Webb is an intriguing FBI procedural. Ryan McBride, a discredited FBI agent, crashed and burned after a case 3 years prior, and now is a disgruntled and alcoholic ‘leave me alone’ individual living in Key West. Then Special Agent Vivian Grace knocks on his door saying he is needed at headquarters requested by a kidnapper of a young girl for which there is only 24 hours or she dies. What proceeds is an exciting, hard to put down novel. There are twists and turns, in an upside down case. Sometimes the FBI team, and Ryan teamed with Vivian, have to go out on a limb to solve the puzzles that the twisted kidnapper provides as not just one kidnapping occurs but several with life or death consequences. The FBI team must work together but it is a challenge needing every possible link, clue, or background search to figure out who the kidnapper is and why he selects the individuals he kidnaps let alone Ryan. Deborah Webb has created an excellent novel, with good characters and one heck of a plot, one I thoroughly enjoyed reading. In this newly published novel by Debra Webb, Ryan McBride is forced to confront both his past and his demons when he is pulled back into the FBI, something he thought was long behind him. Once a dedicated and highly respected Special Agent, McBride’s career ended abruptly when a case went terribly wrong. Now, three years later, he’s asked to help find a kidnapped six-year-old girl whose captor has issued a chilling 24-hour deadline.

Teamed up with Special Agent Vivian Grace, McBride quickly realizes that this is no ordinary kidnapping. The criminal has a calculated agenda, turning the investigation into a high-stakes game just might have deadly consequences. As the clock ticks down, McBride and Grace race against time, navigating both the danger of the case and the personal demons it forces them to confront.

McBride’s absence from the FBI has taken a heavy toll—he’s become a deeply flawed and struggling man, including becoming a drunk. With each successive kidnapping occurring in rapid succession, the danger escalates, and McBride is forced to face a series of tests posed by the kidnapper to save the victims before it’s too late.

This novel features a compelling, imperfect hero. These flaws make him all the more human and engaging. I’ve become a definite fan of Debra Webb’s work, and The Devoted Game only reinforces why. It’s a gripping, emotionally charged thriller that kept me turning pages, and I’m eager to read more from this author.

Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Former Agent Ryan McBride is called back into the force after being fired years ago for a case that went completely wrong. A child has been kidnapped and the kidnapper has specifically requested McBride as the agent who will head the search and solve the riddles. Special Agent Vivian Grace is sent out to bring McBride in and babysit him while this search continues and someone else is kidnapped.

I enjoyed the plot completely and it kept me hooked. I didn't like McBride's character, he was too much, all the time. Vivian has her own past and the scars left behind are still alive in her. McBride came off as lacking empathy and only wanted to get into Vivian's pants. However, this is great for me because I enjoy characters that aren't likeable and pleasing. McBride marches to the beat of his own drum but gets things done and fast. Vivian really struggles with her pain throughout the story but she always tries to find ways to overcome her painful past. Overall a great read to end the year!

I had the opportunity to read this as an ARC, and this thriller completely pulled me in. The story follows a detective who is drawn into the case of a missing child, and what starts as one investigation quickly grows darker as more people begin to disappear. The pacing is fast and engaging, with twists and turns that kept me turning the pages.

What really stood out to me was the character development. The characters felt interesting and layered, and I enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story, especially seeing how relationships evolved and deepened over time. That emotional progression added a lot of weight to the suspense and made the stakes feel even higher.

The storyline itself was well developed and unfolded in a way that felt intentional and gripping. By the end, I was fully invested and genuinely hoping this is not the last time we see these characters. I would absolutely be interested in reading a second book if one is planned.

Ryan McBride left the FBI 3 years ago under a cloud, taking the blame when his last case ended badly. Now he spends his days in the Florida Keys drinking and womanizing. Until Special Agent Vivian Grace shows up at his door: a child has been abducted and the perp is willing to give clues to her whereabouts, but only to McBride. This “Devoted Fan” is only just beginning, though, and once McBride and Grace find the girl they have little time to rest before another victim is taken. As the clues get harder to solve, McBride and Grace realize they need learn to trust each other, as well as their instincts, in order to succeed and bring the Devoted Fan down. This is a fast-paced thriller with lots of sexual tension between the main characters, some of which was a bit overdone, but overall I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I believe this is a revised edition, formerly released as Nameless, which I had not read.

WOW! Such a fast paced read. I am such a hugh fan of anything Debra Webb writes. I just love her writing, stories and characters.. This story will have you on the edge of your seat and your heart pounding waiting to see what is going to happen next. There are so many twists and turns you won't want to stop reading.
Ryan is an exFBI Agent who's bitter and desillusioned. Vivian is a Special Agent who shows up on his doorstep needing his help in her latest case. The Villain will only talk to Ryan or MacBride as he calls him. The Villian, known as Devoted Fan of MacBrides give him timelines that devoted fan knows McBride can solve. There are 2 more cases he wants him to solve also. I don't want to give anymore away but you must read it if you loved fast paced, heart racing mysteries. A disgraced FBI agent forced back into the game makes for an irresistible setup, and The Devoted Game delivers on every front. Ryan McBride’s reckoning with his past collides with a chilling, puzzle-driven kidnapping that keeps the tension sky-high as the clock counts down. Debra Webb expertly balances character, psychology, and relentless momentum, while the connection between hunter and hunted adds an extra layer of unease. Smart, intense, and impossible to put down, this is a thriller that keeps tightening its grip until the final move.

Thank you Debra Webb, Brilliance Publishing, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

McBride is an ex FBI agent. Fired after a case didn’t go well. Grace is a rookie agent sent to bring him back for one more case. The Devoted Fan demands McBride solve his clues to save victims. Can he hold it together and put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Confession-requested this on a whim and tiny expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Well thought out storyline that kept me hooked. Fast pace that kept me turning the pages at every opportunity. Heroes, victims and villains galore. The descriptions (all of them-ahem!) were vivid and left little to the imagination. This was a fantastic story and I’d love to read another installment about this new duo.

My only criticism is that McBride didn’t get to the bottom of the boots question. IYKYK!

Wow!! I’m a huge fan of Debra Webb and this book is extraordinary! If you want something that’s fast paced that’s gonna make your heart thump and you love thrillers all I can say is pre-order this book! This one is just unputdownable!! five stars does not do it justice.
ExFBI agent Ryan MacBride is called back in to help on a case of a missing girl. The abductor will only talk to him! Agent Grace Burroughs needs Ryan’s help and she needs to convince him to come work this case with her.
I don’t want to give away spoilers so I can’t say much more than that but I will say this is one you don’t want to miss. Put that pre-order in now so that it will drop onto your Kindle on release day.

Fast paced with a great plot. The characters were well crafted and nothing less of entertaining. From the start I was pulled in. The twist, the mystery and game played in the story was fun. I loved reading the story from the multi pov. Im not typically into romance type novela so I was shocked when I came across some within this thiller but it flowed within the story and didnt take from it. Some parts were a bit more spicy then I was ready for but it worked. Overall this was another good Debra Webb novel.

Vivian is a Special Agent who shows up on his doorstep needing his help in her latest case.
A little girl was kidnapped and the villain will talk to Ryan only.

Ryan McBride must confront his past when he is contacted by the FBI to help with a case. A 6 year old is kidnapped and the kidnapper has specifically asked for McBride to solve the case. McBride working alongside Vivian Grace to solve the case realizes that the kidnapper is playing a game of cat and mouse. This is fast-paced and the chemistry is sizzling between McBride and Grace.

Both of the narrators do a nice job.

I received an audiobook ARC for this novel and thought it was very well written with a fun plot. I am discovering that for some reason FBI character driven books just don't tie me in like other thrillers do. So, this book was good, but, just wasn't my style. I definitely think those who like the FBI characters in their thrillers will eat this one up. This is very fast paced and enjoyable. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishing team for the ARC!

What a read! Ryan, previous FBI agent is called back for the kidnapping of a little girl. The abductor makes a game out of it by giving clues and times. The pressure is intense and the stakes get higher with each case. And on top of that the chemistry between Ryan and agent Grace rises. Grab this book for an exciting read!

When I first started this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The premise was intriguing, but the beginning kind of threw me off. Thankfully, it absolutely crushed every expectation I had. I couldn’t put this book down. So many twists and turns and a storyline that will keep you engaged throughout.

I’m hoping this isn’t the end of McBride and Grace because I absolutely loved their chemistry and character development!

I really did like the FMC and the MMC. There the types of characters you root for. I liked that but thought that with the FMC past, their first spicy scene was too much. I don't want to give anything away. BUT I did like it and hope for another book to follow.
