gAI writing at its "finest"

The titular Ship is the MS Atlantica, but the gAI used to create this novel seems to have a problem with proper nouns so this repeatedly appears as "MS AtlanticaAtlantica", and there's the most-excellent sentence that begins, "Jack walked down the hall with MeganMegan...". I believe this is the same kind of gAI flub that creates images of people with six fingers or etc. Textual corrections are much easier than graphical ones so why the author / gAI wrangler didn't notice and correct this before publishing ... I cannot attempt to explain.
The plot is incredibly derivative and predictable from the first chapter, the characters are cardboard cutouts who exist only to serve the needs of the narrative, and the few "factual" details are ... very much not. But it's readable and kinda diverting for a few hours, if that's what you're in the mood for.

DNF @ 25%, too many typos (double ship names, "AtlanticaAtlantica")+ plot errors (she's a wife then a girlfriend) got too distracting.

I have noticed several of my recent Kindle-unlimited selections have had an emotional appeal in the postscript. I have an idea of the publishing industry today by going to my local bookstore and seeing all the generic and copy-cat books being released today. It seems only one kind of author gets published. That's why I enjoy Kindle, it seems a much wider type of author gets published.

One shortcut on Kindle is the lack of rigorous editing that puts speed bumps in the reading, and a lot of tightening is needed in the story.

This novel is a science fiction investigating the time-space continuum. As the characters begin to experience the lack of continuity in reality the reluctant hero with a debilitating failure in his past is forced to be the leader through the confusion and threat of destruction. The telling of this story needs to be a little tighter, but overall, I appreciate the author's work and will look for his other books. For me three stars is a satisfactory story.

I don't know what to make of this book. It's far longer than it should be. There's a thriller aspect to it but not too much. The story becomes clear fairly early. Especially if you're a sci-fi fan.

This isn't a fully new tale, a ship getting caught in some experiment and ending up somewhere else out of the "time stream" etc. The only new part would be the reason given for the experiment at the end.

The story takes probably 50% plus to even take interest. The human aspect of withholding information, deception, losing control & panicking, the selfishness & violence, are quite stark and we'll fleshed out. However, a bit too fleshed out - as most of the book is taken up by this. (plus the asinine decision making by some of the characters). The sci-fi aspect is actually quite light in this story, which is a shame for me. It's really a sort of Twilight Zone story, and could have been a short story. You can skip most of the book if you wanted to.

Fascinating and unpredictable!

The Ship: Final Voyage is an exceptional sci-fi thriller that takes place on a cruise ship. The ship encounters a mystery ship, with which they are hit by, which sets off a series of unexplainable events. I'm not going to ruin the ending, its unexpected and too good to spoil. The writing is excellent, the only problem being instances of repeated names, but it doesn't take away from the excellent story. The characters, especially Jack, Ryan, Megan and Nia, all of whom play a role in saving the lives on board, but not without stepping out of their normal roles and thinking way outside the box. The plot is ideally matched to the plot and the story is unique. The description of both the unnatural storms and events on the cruise ship are clear and easy to follow. Overall, 5/5 stars, highly recommended to sci-fi thriller fans and thriller fans in general!!

Hmmm… I have mixed feelings about this one.

The beginning really pulls you in…it’s fast-paced, a little eerie, and definitely keeps you turning the pages. The characters start off intriguing and I especially liked that the main ones had a military background. The reactions to the cruise ship being lost at sea felt pretty believable too….the panic, the uncertainty, and how quickly people start turning on each other.

The writing wasn’t always the smoothest. There were a few plot holes and some inconsistencies (even with names at times), which pulled me out of the story a bit.

Overall though, I still enjoyed it. If you’re into Bermuda Triangle mysteries and creepy cruise ship vibes, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Needs editing

This book reads like it was written by AI. Story line had great potential. It was put together with all the exciting elements and plot twists that make the difference between a good book and a great one. The characters were spot on.
The problem was the editing. Throughout the book up to page 69 the cruise ship was referred to as Atlantica. Page 75 it was called MS AtlanticaAtlantica. Page 78, AtlanticaAtlantica. Up to page 76 the other ship was called Morrow Star. page 81, and on other pages the second ship was called Morrow StarMorrow Star. page 126 MeganMegan. exhausting.

📚The Ship
✍️Tim L Rey
⭐️⭐️⭐️

This sci-fi thriller follows four friends on a cruise ship vacation of a lifetime, until a storm hits and their number is reduced to three with Chloe’s death. Impossibly, the ship is travelling the wrong way with no GPS or communications to guide them. Editing/AI inconsistencies with names appearing twice “AtlanticaAtlantica” and “MeganMegan” for example, which were annoying but not the end of the world. Ultimately this was a really clever look at psychology and sociology and how people can turn on their friends and colleagues in order to survive. Ideal for fans of The Belko Experiment.

Mild SF mixed with a disaster scenario
Cruise ship finds itself near a strange ship, with no communications or radar. Strange lights in the sky and the rules of physics seem to be skewed. Lucky there are a couple of US soldiers on board and, as things fall apart, they might be all that can avert disaster.
The SF bit is a bit “meh”, this is really a disaster novel as things keep going badly wrong and people start to panic……and die.
It’s okay. Easy reading while not being spectacular. A damp squib ending slightly undermines the work up to that point.

Yes there was an ugly stutter in the first half of the book with Atlantica Atlantica, Morrow Star Morrow Star and once even Megan Megan. This was distracting, but fortunately didn't appear in the 2nd half. The story itself was quite riveting and even though I'm not generally a science fiction fan, I was hooked. The way people reacted was appalling and I hope that in a similar situation I would not lose all sense of reason and humanity. As long as I look forward to reading a book, it's a winner for me.

Oh boy! What a thrill ride! I almost didn't finish reading it because it sounded a bit complicated and also spooky. Reminded me of the movie The Ghost Ship with Julianna Margulies (which was pretty scary. If you haven't watched it, please do so). This story seemed headed that way but eventually it shifted, and the adrenaline rush hit!

Give it a read. You will definitely enjoy it!

A maritime mystery.

An excellently paced thriller science fiction mystery. This is not normally a genre I read, however I was drawn in by the synopsis and because sea tales have always interested me. I was gripped early on and raced from chapter to chapter. The characters are easy to relate to and root for. The mystery is not too far fetched when current technology is taken onboard.

I liked it

I love ghost ship books so this worked for me. I liked the main characters and even the fact that there wasn't tons of backstory; you got to know what you needed to.
One weird thing I noticed - frequently a name would be repeated or said twice. AntlanticaAntlantica. MeganMegan. Morrow StarMorrow Star. It distracted me. Otherwise it seemed well written.

My kind o’ cruise

I’ve taken many a cruise but they’ve never offered any kind of ‘on board excursions’ like this. Of course no one died on any of mine, so there is that. I was expecting a Zombie Cruise and was pleasantly surprised that it was totally different. Nice read except for the bullets.

story was good, horrible narrator

Premise and characters were ok, I was definitely engaged throughout the book. I wish I had just read, narrator was not an actual person and didn’t pronounce the word “live” in the right context. It was also hard to tell when someone new was speaking.

STORY REELS YOU IN

I enjoyed this story. It reeled me in first few pages until finished. It was scary in that I can see human’s react so crazy when crises happen. Humans scare me. This was very realistic in human behavior.

Yes, read it in 2 days

I liked this book a lot. A good mix of action and thriller themes. The author keeps you drawn in and really pushing to read more. I liked the twist as well. Definitely recommend.

Had high hopes

So much filler. So much ‘tell’ not ‘show’. So many descriptions of eyebrow movement. Great idea buried in purple prose. A decent copywriter would have paired this MS down & made it a great, readable novel. DNF - sorry.

good story

I enjoyed the book. Lots of action and a pretty interesting concept. The editing was terrible, it really needs a proof reader. The whole idea was pretty good, the twists and turns were quite engaging. A good read... Except for the editing.

I enjoyed this generally, but where was the editor? I got rather fed up with MorrowStarMorrowStar and MeganMegan - repeated names through the first half of the book. Still great hokum otherwise - always enjoy something that explores how people react in stressful situations.

Hard to Put Down

I really liked the book, but there were some glaring editorial errors. Otherwise, it was a great read. I would recommend the book to adults due to language, sexual innuendo, and violence.

An interesting sci fi thriller. Although the time warp concept was a bit fuzzy, the descriptiveness of the passenger behavior was not only fascinating but frightening. A perfect Halloween story!
