This book stayed on my mind every time I had to set it down and I just wanted to pick it back up to find out what was going to happen.
It is set in the near future with Dystopian themes about the world falling apart. Meddling Goddesses have intervened and the characters are attempting to figure out why this red wave is happening and resetting and erasing everyone's memory every 13 days.
With everyone forgetting everything and only partially having memories coming back to them near the time of the reset, it definitely tugs on your heartstrings for certain situations. I had tears a couple times.
The romance was so sweet with Valance doing anything he can to keep Divinica around him and going through some of the same miserable things over and over again. He would definitely burn the world to keep her alive. Watching their relationship advance and grew was bittersweet because I could never figure out what was going to happen next.
I still have lots of questions about how and why and so many other things, but it's made me very intrigued and antsy to get my hands on book 2!

Thank you to City Owl Books for the gifted copy. My thoughts are entirely my own. Finish date: 10/13/25, Release date: 10/21/25
As I began this book, I was gripped. Such an original idea, of a constant post-apocalyptic 'redo' every 13 days, resulting in so many questions! How does our protagonist Divinica survive? What happened to create this situation? The world has effectively ended - so what next?
As the story progressed, I was impressed by the continuously smart ideas. Astronauts who'd been off-planet when the original event hit, thus not affected by the memory wipe. Diaries to help remember what had gone before. Strange mutant creatures who still managed to be domesticated enough to ride (and be somehow cute!). All good.
Sadly, by the halfway point, things began to lag. There's a lot of repetition as the 'fated mates' plot begins to ramp up, and I found myself often frustrated as the same romantic ground was retrod repeatedly (without the excuse of the memory issues). Divinica herself is interesting but can also be oddly irrational, making some weirdly stupid decisions. And then come the lizard-people and the superpowers...
That's where the book lost me. There's so much happening that while the action is fast-paced, the plot becomes very overladen, and the last third of the book seemed to take forever. Divinica becoming an OP Mary-Sue was also annoying, as I'd hoped for better from her as she developed, but nope - she's fated to save the world (given her name, I guess that's not surprising!). Interesting insights into exactly what's happening become a montage towards the end, and the abrupt cliffhanger almost made me scream.
Huge potential that sadly took on too much, as great sci-fi ideas descended into a predictable romance and conspiracy theories made real. Very disappointed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Divinica wakes up with no memory. Again. As she does every 13 days thanks to the ‘red wave’ that wipes out all of humanities memories and is slowly killing them all. Except for Divinica, who remains strong and healthy. Strong enough in fact that she seems to be able to break through the memory fog quicker than usual and be remembering snippets. Some down to her diary, some down to her artwork and some down to pure feelings. Valance - an astronaut who is treated like a god by the people - seems to be a key source to those feelings but can Divinica keep her memories long enough to help him save the world? Can she keep them long enough to remember their relationship? Better yet, can she dig deep enough to remember her role in all of this? Read to find out…
As a huge fan of dystopian fiction, I very much enjoyed this book. It had just enough of our world to be unsettling and have disturbing thoughts about what could be. The undertone of climate change and greed were very apt in the current climate and gave an almost warning tone to the read that added to the tension. Add to this a good old romance with memory loss trope and I was hooked. Poor Valance. The way his pain and feelings are described is so realistic yet otherworldly romantic I just couldn’t help but get attached to him. Other characters were also nice glimmers (aka distractions) in the dismal world Roth has created and I liked their functions both to the plot but also to Divinica. However, Divinica annoyed me. I have no necessary reasoning, she just did. Let me know whether she annoyed you please or whether it is just a me problem.
Aside from the annoyance, I found this book riveting, unique and a great read. My one critique would be that I wished it was more of a slow starter. I know - never would I thought of saying that - but in this case I just think it was slightly rushed. I would have liked Divinica’s breakthroughs to come through maybe a wave in so that we had the experience of deja vu Valance has. I think this would have really added to the shock value of Divinica remembering things quicker but I am no writer and am sure Roth knows better. Regardless, I recommend picking up this book and diving in.
This book really wasn't for me. The red wave and the way things reset every thirteen day was an interesting idea for the apocalypse, but the longer the book went on the more there were little things about it that just bothered me. Like how Valance could predict things down to the exact moment someone would be somewhere at certain times and at others he would say things surprised him. Another thing was how annoying their relationship could be at times. Like Valance would claim his whole goal was to keep Divinica safe but then blow up at her after she went into her visions and experienced one of the goddesses getting it on with her lover. She tells him she has no control and also expresses how traumatized she is by experiencing the deaths of these women but he suddenly goes into a jealous rage. It's a shame that he sometimes acts like that because as the story goes on and Divinica begins to understand their relationship and how broken he is by her forgetting him he becomes a character you are very sympathetic to. However, he also does things that seem to be there just to add drama to their relationship that I don't think is needed. Also his age worried me. Like how old is this man? There's a line where he says kissing Divinica would be a crime (I assume because she is under 18 at the time). This scene is repeated through the book 3 times. I don't know if the author meant it in reference to their relative ages (i.e. he was kissing a minor) or if it's meant in some weird metaphorical sense, but I just don't buy the second explanation. Repeating it as well is an odd choice. It's connected to the memory of their first kiss but why not talk about their feelings rather than him being like "you're underage" and then kissing her anyway. I think overall the characters motivations and actions didn't always match. Though the idea was interesting I think overall the execution was not the best. Not my cup of tea.

This is a mind bending fantasy novel, there are plenty of twists and turns, when everything resets in thirteen days, it really is mind-blowing and a puzzled maze your mind goes through.
It is a beautifully written novel that I was eager to find out what happens next to Divinica and to work out why things were happening the way they were.
It's dark, it's full fantasy and there is a love story in there that the FMC forgets about when her world resets every thirteen days.
This is the first novel of this authors I have read and I am looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us next!
This was a great premise for a story. I really like post-apocalyptic/dystopian books and this did not disappoint. We follow Divinica who is living in a world ravaged by the red wave. It happens every 13 days and leaves a wake of radiation and destruction and everyone forgets who they are, who the love and what they are fighting for. But Divinica knows there is something important she is destined to do, if only she could piece it altogether.
I really liked the main characters and the way their relationships unfold throughout the story. It was so sad to see them lose each other and have to start all over again.
The arc of the story and how Divinica learns about the curse on the world and how she is the key to bring about saving what is left of the wasteland she calls home was really engaging. I really loved the glimpses of other worlds and other times in history. The myths and legends brought to life made it a really interesting take on stories of the ancient Gods that I thought I knew!
This is fundamentally about love, loss, grief and resilience and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series.
Huge thanks to the author, publisher and Love Books Tours for providing a copy of the book to review.
Living with the "Red Wave" would be exhausting! Memory wiped every 13 days, I like the idea that Divinica has a notebook to write certain things down so that she can remind herself of certain things and people and places she's meant to trust but she's unlike other people, she's meant to perish when the wave hits but she survives again and again. What is it about her that makes her so special?
I like the storyline to this, we get to meet the notorious being known as the "Skylord" and learn about Divinica and her life and past life. Such a scary world although, if able to survive a wave, a whole new world opens up. Divinica is not like the others, her tattoo's have a secret which we find out on the way.
Good pacing although chunky at 500ish pages. A good first book to a series, I love the addition of the Goddesses and the concept in general!
This book absolutely fascinated me. I got so invested in it & trying to understand why a red wave made people forget everything. The goddess aspect of this book was something I really enjoyed. Divinica is a strong FMC who goes through unimaginable hell reliving her traumas after each wave such as remembering what happened to her on that lab table. I really liked the character of Daniel & some of the things he said did have me laughing. It was interesting reading about the times when Divinica interacted with the Goddesses/became one with them. My one grumble is the to be continued at the end of the book.. I need more now 🤣
‘Divinica’ is such a unique concept and it’s an intriguing dystopian science fiction novel. Every thirteen days Divinica wakes up having had her life reset and no memory of what has happened. Her only clues are the tattoos on her body and the memory of Valance, one of the few people whose mind doesn't get reset. It’s a scary prospect and I really enjoyed how the world was set up and the heartbreak of Divinica’s relationship with the brother she never remembers until it’s too late. I have so many questions and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Divinica by JP Roth. Mythmarked Book 1. This was a good read. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I found the cover creepy-looking. It's why I signed up for this tour. It did take me a few chapters to get into this book. I read this book over a few days. I did have to keep putting it down. I'm glad I kept at it. I wasn't sure how I felt about the characters. It was definitely mind-blowing. I am looking forward to the next book.
