Having read the previous instalment of this series, I am much less willing to let things slide with this book. It was interesting to read the ups and downs of the main relationship, but to have the exact same thing happen here as it did in the last one? They argue, they split, they get back together again??
Whilst the mentions of perimenopause were very interesting, it was tedious to have it as a plot device, rather than part of a character. Also, it happening as soon as she turned 50?
This story dragged, and I found the ending very flat, as per usual. Unfortunately, these stories always have great premises, but get bogged down by tedious side plots (which always get tied up neatly with a bow at the end!) and then the final resolution is just a very boring story, that could have been told in 3 chapters. A lot of unnecessary plot filler, about characters no one cares about. And the idea that the whole ending was just a romantic love story??? I spent the entire second half convinced that he was a cult leader, and all attempts to prove that he wasn't, he was genuinely a nice guy, just further cemented to me that he really was a cult leader. Don't you think, if you were meeting a guy you were convinced ran a cult and had killed 2 children, you would be on your guard, and not immediately think how hot he is, and how he must be a nice guy after all?
Not a single one of the conflicts in this made sense, they were there just to fill time, and stemmed from nothing at all. Again, using perimenopause as a way to start arguments is just lazy writing in my opinion.
Also, in what world is a podcast about murder as wildly successful as this one?? In Britain????
