DBT skills to help teens find calm, stay in control, and handle life’s challenges

When stress, school drama, and family problems feel overwhelming, DBT Tool Kits for Teens offers practical strategies to handle it all. Coping skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are often called “life skills” because they teach people how to manage tough emotions, create healthy relationships, and deal with stressful situations more wisely.

As a DBT-certified clinician for adolescents and families, Dr. Atara Hiller knows how to make these powerful skills easier for teens to understand and apply.

Dr. Hiller presents a fantastic overview of DBT techniques! Though written for a young adult audience, I think that these techniques would help everyone at any age. I liked that the language was easy to understand and did not “talk down” to readers, as some other self-help guidebooks do. The author does a good job of making the techniques accessible with each activity. There are plenty of reflection questions throughout to encourage readers to find the techniques that work best for themselves. I am especially grateful that mindfulness is not portrayed in a religious context in this book; instead, it is presented as a tool that leads to a more regulated approach to life. I think this is a fantastic book of exercises, and I will be returning to it often.

Thanks to NetGally and Zeitgeist publishers for making an advanced reviewer ebook available in exchange for my honest opinion of the book.

As a newer therapist who has really been loving DBT in sessions, I found this to be incredibly helpful! Even though this is specifically targeted for teens, you could easily apply/modify the tools to adults. I’ll definitely refer back to this and recommend it to new and seasoned therapists!

Major thanks to NetGalley for the early copy ◡̈
