A shadow storms inside Lyvia, all-consuming and unyielding to her transformative light, as two of the mightiest powers in the Realm of Vael struggle to coexist.
After retreating from a devastating loss at the Battle of Odessa, the crew of the Evecta and soldiers of the Rising grow restless in the elven Queendom of Lotrennia. Though they’ve found refuge, Queen Antares rules her court with cunning words and calculated wit. Lyvia must navigate dangerous politics as she attempts to gain control over her newfound powers, dethrone King Saros of Sultira, and save the souls of the ashen.
But as news of mysterious deaths spread in Lotrennia, what remains of Lyvia’s humanity is exploited, setting in motion events that cannot be undone. The hunt for the next bone of power will push Lyvia to her limits, forcing the Bellator to make choices that will shape the future of her world and who she is.
Oaths will be sworn, bonds will be broken, motives will be revealed, and salvation will rest in the hands of the enemy. Lyvia must learn to live with the decisions she’s made, and accept herself despite them, as the shadow of the Sending begins to eclipse her very soul.
The second installment of the Nyxteria is a high-stakes Indiana Jones meets Mistborn adult fantasy series—where legends become reality, a scholar becomes a warrior, and the bonds of found family are tested.
A.M. Kay grew up in the Midwest where she spent countless hours on horseback, daydreaming about epic fantasy battles and studying archaeology. She has always had a profound love for reading and all things fantasy. She found her passion for writing in 2023 and believes it's never too late to chase your dreams.
Going to do my best to write a spoiler free review😅 Shadow of the Sending by A.M. Kay completely blew me away. As an ARC reader, I went in with high hopes after loving Bones of the Bellators and somehow this sequel exceeded every single one. The world building is richer, the stakes are higher, and the emotional depth hits even harder. It balances magic, mystery, and romance (even if I’m now mad at some of the current state) in a way that kept me glued to every page.
I’m obsessed with how the relationships are evolving. There’s tension, heartache, love and so much character growth that left me desperate for book three. The writing is in depth but still fast-paced, and the ending left me gasping (and immediately messaging my street team members to scream about it).
If you loved Bones of the Bellators, Shadow of the Sending will completely consume you. This series has my whole heart, and I cannot wait to see how everything (and everyone) comes together in book three😍
I loved Bones of the Bellators, Book 1 of A.M. Kay's Nyxteria series, and I honestly didn't know if anything could top it. Then came the sequel, Shadow of the Sending, a book I've had the immense privilege of beta-reading. So, let me at least try to pour my feelings into words...
A.M. Kay dives even deeper this time. She captures character growth, painting a raw and vivid picture of inner demons, buried truths, and long-hidden wounds brought to life. This isn’t a sequel written just to extend the story or fill in gaps. This is a book that stands on its own. It demands love, awe, and reverence every bit as much as its predecessor, if not more.
As readers, we’re gently guided back into Nyxteria, given just enough to reconnect with the story before the storm hits. It truly feels like coming home after a long, perilous journey, one where you already know that peace won’t be waiting for you. But you welcome the pain anyway. You crave it viscerally.
Livia and Bayne may be at the center, but their perfectly imperfect found family anchors the very soul of the story. Shadow of the Sanding showed us more of Nerissa's vulnerability, and I loved that. We see some cracks in Vulcan's tough facade. We witness the quiet rise of Carina, hinting she may become far more than a timid princess. I believe she will truly shine in Book 3.
And then there are Livia and Bayne...
If I could choose my favorite moment, it would be their reunion. My poor heart almost couldn't take it. These two went through so much, and there are still too many obstacles and storms lying ahead, but I just know, deep in my soul, that they will emerge victorious.
Shadow of the Sending delivers revelations that could shake everything we thought we knew. Yet it doesn’t give away all its secrets. Not yet. There are still truths to unearth, hearts to break and mend, and paths to walk through the darkness.
Would I have preferred an ending where everyone is happy, healthy, and in love? Of course. I care too much about these characters not to. But did I expect that? No. I wanted to be left breathless. Heart shattered, soul quiet, staring into nothing.
And this series gave me exactly that. It gave me "I am not afraid of the dark". It gave me "Hello, Lyvia". It gave me everything.
The tension and gasping moments I’ve had and felt during Shadow Of The Sending was like ripples of water starting out steady & calm and then waves crashing down waiting for the storm to come.
I loved every moment with these characters on this journey into book 2 and seeing their growth. I think I fell in love with Lyvia even more because I was rooting for this girl and could understand her feelings. I absolutely fell in love with Bones of the Bellators and so glad I went into that book blind because I craved for book 2 and very thankful I had the opportunity to read Shadow of the sending in advance 🖤
It was consuming and alluring with an even richer world building that I was glued to between the pages. You feel the raw, love, and filling moments that each of these characters have gone through and really feel the found family moments. One of my favorites that this book was giving.
So much darkness & shadows goes into this and you definitely have more awaiting and secrets/truths to be told that left me winded because I was not expecting this read to end the way it did but it definitely has you aching for more for book 3!
I received this book early to be reviewed, here is my review!
This was such an epic continuation of the Nyxteria series and I’m totally in love with Lyvia. I feel like her best friend, I know all her insecurities and her strengths, and I’m just over here cheering her on.
The writing is so good! The timing of the details is spot on and every character feels alive. And Astreus….. I cannot wait to see what happens with him in book 3. Hoping for something spicy, not gonna lie.
Huge thanks to AM Kay for this series. I’m in it for the long haul. The book is packed with twists and turns, and every chapter keeps things moving. Loved it.
I’m obsessed. This sequel was everything I wanted and then went places I did not see coming. The political tension, the power struggle, the messy inner conflict — it all hit so hard. And THAT ENDING?? I closed the book and just sat there, feral, needing the next one immediately.
Lyvia’s arc in this installment is brutal and beautiful. I love watching her get sharper, darker, and more complicated while still trying to hold onto the part of herself that’s human.
AM Kay — straight to jail. Because how am I supposed to function waiting for book 3 after that cliff?
Hi. Anne broke me. Like all my pieces are on the floor and I haven’t been able to function fully. May or may not have bombarded her DMs because my life is changed. 🤭🤭 This goes in my top 5 of books that utterly destroyed me and I can’t wait for her Anne to put me back together.
We begin pretty close to right where we left off at the end of book one, except we have moved from human lands to the elven lands where a scheming queen has her sights on Bayne and her evil plots upon Lyvia. We dive right back into the action and heartache, but I’ll say that this one hurts WAY MORE. Continuing to be plot driven, our romance has been diabolically tampered with and you’re gonna love seeing where Anne takes us. It is going to be painful but I believe it’s worth it! It’s worth it because we get to see our FMC find her self-worth and own her power. She transcends the doubts of others, heals some wounds and faces others, and finds balance between two warring magics. And she does all of this while fighting to keep her moral compass, empathy, and compassion in a beautifully transparent and vulnerable way.
As we travel on our favorite Pirate Lord Astraeus’ ship (who I can’t wait to see more of 😜), we grow our found family and we oust more traitors. We get to know these characters so deeply they feel real. The stakes get EVEN higher (and you thought that wasn’t possible!), the sacrifices for love and humanity have not lessened, the magic and powers are increasing, the world and our characters are growing. Chaos REIGNS, but our beloved characters never lose hope even in the most hopeless moments. Unlikely heroes and allis band together and new bonds begin to blossom.
My whole heart has been rocked. What book one created, book two demolished and created anew. This epic fantasy is one that is so full of action, tension, and suspense that you’ll need an ice bath after just to cool down. It truly affected my real life in the best way. 🤣
Tropes you may find in SOTS are forced proximity, medium spice, found family, unique bonds, animal bonds, magical oaths, elemental magic, feminine rage, slow burn, deaf rep, epic high fantasy, so much tension, plot driven, and a cliffhanger.
I apologize to Anne for bothering her so much and I extend all my thanks for this gifted arc. I NEED BOOK THREE YESTERDAY.
“I was death” A wonderful continuation from book one. The pacing was just as great, if not better, as the first and the tension and stakes remained high. I enjoyed watching all the different relationships and characters continue to evolve, especially Lyvia. Her continued growth with self doubt, who she is and the power that she has was so wonderfully done. The secrets, betrayals, twist, and romantic tension had me feeling all the things. My emotions were all over the place while reading and especially there at the end. They really go through it in which means we as reader really go through it. Kay has done another fabulous job with her storytelling and intricate world building. I cannot wait to see where things go from here with these characters and their story.
Thank you for the opportunity to be an early reader.
I loved Bones of the Bellators and somehow, this is even better! I am obsessed with these characters. The tension, the yearning. It is high stakes, fast paced. And the ending- AHHH. Screaming for book 3
I loved book one so much, and book two was even better! This series feels like Brandon Sanderson’s MISTBORN but with an Indiana Jones element. Highly recommend!
Thank you AM Kay for the opportunity to read your fantastic book!
WOW, what a roller coaster this book was. I raged, I cried, and I fell in love. I raged because Livy had to deal with so much in a short amount of time, the betrayal after betrayal was just gut wrenching and I hurt right along with her. I cried because of what happened to some of her friends and the swell of pride I had for her overcoming herself doubts and what was thrown her way so many times, also her new fury friend is an absolute bad a** and he also made me cry a few times. I fell in love with all the new characters we met and I am so excited to see whatever happens next (especially after that doozy of an ending). If you love feminine rage, slow burn, found family, fury friends, interesting magic and world, elves, and so much more than I highly recommend this book!
A.M. Kay has absolutely destroyed me with Shadow of the Sending. I tell everyone how good Bones of the Bellators is but this next installment is just phenomenal!
The story picks up with Lyvia's pov 6 weeks after the Battle of Odessa. Laying low in Lotrennia, our crew must plan a defense against the continued threat from Kings Daimos and Saros, master their magic and navigate the manipulative politics of Lotrennia's Queen Antares.
It was a joy to pick this story back up and immediately be greeted with so many of the characters I loved from the previous book. The found family in this series is flawless. We only have Lyvia's pov but we see the flaws and strengths of the characters so well, the different way they all show their love, care and protection. Vulcan and Nerissa in particular - heart eyes for both of them! I love a grumpy character. I love even more when they break and acknowledge how much they care for the MC. The supporting characters in this story are so well fleshed out, that despite never having their pov, they feel like whole people. None of them fall flat and the ones you end up disappointed in or frustrated with - it doesn't feel out of character. It makes perfect sense why a "poor" decision was made or why they chose to betray their friends. I gasped and cried and raged along with Lyvia. Her emotions and processing are so tangible throughout the story. The way she describes feeling her waves of emotion; her worry that her anger at the constant hardships is tainting her soul; how she witnesses and empathises with her friends emotions and struggles - beautiful. The writing is so evocative that many, multiple times throughout this book I was taken aback by how acutely I was able to share in Lyvia's emotions and empathy.
I've said it before, I'll say it now and I know I'll say it again in the future - A.M. Kay's world building is exceptional!! I'm not always the best at picturing the world the characters are experiencing but the way A.M. Kay writes her world is not just vivid but immersive in a way that makes you feel like you're truly there. I could smell the salt in the ocean air, feel the grain of wood beneath my hands and the texture of horse hair and feathers as I flew alongside the characters. I didn’t feel like a setting had just been described - the writing evokes real life sensations, matching the fantasy with tangible, familiar experiences.
The plot was stunning. Never once did I feel bored or confused. The twists were entirely gasp worthy, the betrayals hurt, the romance was the perfect kind of torture! Lyvia makes so much progress with her magic and her sense of self, her confidence in her abilities. I don't want to be that person but I genuinely can't wait for the next installment because that cliffhanger ending was absolutely brutal and the story just keeps getting better!! Everytime something was confronted or solved - we actually unlocked another piece of lore or found another bone and the whole dynamic shifted and it was just so much fun!!
This is the type of epic fantasy I want. I want strong female leads, sisterhood, found family and platonic love. I want hard decisions and temperamental magic. I want smirking, shirtless pirate lords and questionable noble men. I want a queen who is nothing short of a horribly manipulative cow and her daughter who I just know is going to turn into an absolute power house of a woman! I want a backdrop I can get lost in. I want celebrations where I get drunk and dance in glitter with my friends. I want to end a battle, bruised and bloody and emotionally defeated, only to lock eyes with my friends and sag in relief to see them still breathing. I want sea spray, the creak of a ship and sarcastic, telepathic flying horses. I want heartbreak and betrayal and fucking anger. I want to build myself back up and realise I'm capable. I want the emotions and family and world I found inside Shadow of the Sending. Simply a stunning book. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to arc read this book.

I loved this book! This is the second book in the ℕ𝕪𝕩𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕒 series. You can expect fantastic adventure, thrilling action, and a great continuation in this story. This book gave me more of a nostalgic feel of The Mummy and LOTR - searching and traveling to new places with a band of elves, mages, pirates, warriors, and humans trying to save the world.
In this book, Lyvia struggles with her grief and honing in on her Bellator powers. The search for more Bellator relics to strengthen their forces to take on the two wicked kings, but a new foe is found with the elf queen of Lotrennia as she makes a deal with Bayne separating them further. Lyvia is pushed to continue on her journey. Lyvia finds strength and forgiveness during her travels with newfound hope in herself.
“ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙʟᴇᴇᴅ ꜰᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ, ʙᴏɴꜱᴄᴀÍʜ.”
Such an adventure, I loved traveling to new kingdoms, to baren lands (so they thought) and facing new and old foes. The action and twists were decadent. I was eating this book up!
Each chapter had me wanting more and I couldn't put this book down. I love this gang of misfits. This book has fantastic banter, and found family. New characters and old adding to the intrigue and mystery, I need to know more! I absolutely loved the connection with Tiberius, her horse - her caelumas (companion/ familiar). Just made me want to snuggle up to my horses and wishing for adventure in far of places.
I got this ARC and honestly, I can’t thank the author enough, this book was incredible!! I’d already read the first one and loved it, so my expectations were already high and this one still blew me. I completely devoured it.
There’s just so much going on so many characters, backstories, secrets, little clues in every chapter. I was totally hooked. Every time I thought I had something figured out, another twist hit. A lot of questions got answered, but I’m dying to get my hands on the third book as soon as it's written. Lyvia my girl is ready for the adventures ahead already.
The story was amazing, the characters all had their own thing going on, and the fight scenes were straight-up thrilling. What I loved the most though was the connection you feel with these characters and these characters have evolved throughout the two books. The author’s world-building is top-tier; it honestly feels like stepping into another realm.
It’s got everything fun moments, heavy emotions, bits of humor, tons of action, and a mountain of secrets. If you’re into high fantasy with chaos, heart, and wild twists, Shadows of the Sending is definitely for you.
The Nyxteria series is absolute high fantasy perfection. Just like Bones of the Bellators, this book sucked me in from the start. The mystery, the intrigue, the characters (returning and new), the creatures, the action and the MAGIC!
Found family is my favorite trope and there is so much of it in SotS. Lyvia’s rage is warranted and beautifully written by AM Kay. Every emotional heartstring is pulled in this book. There are many revelations and additional questions. There are lighthearted moments, serious moments and sad moments. There’s even a Jack Sparrow-esque pirate who’ll make you grin, chuckle, and blush!
AM Kay has created a phenomenal world with incredible lore, as well as so many twists and turns that you’ll never expect. I was constantly getting thrown off in the best way possible! You’d be remiss if you didn’t read these books. Without a doubt, this series is turning into one of my all time favorites!
Wow, just wow. I thought Bones of the Bellators had stolen my heart, but Shadow of the Sending absolutely shattered it (in the best possible way). A.M. Kay somehow takes everything that I loved about the first book and deepens it: the world, the stakes, the heartbreak, and especially the relationships.
What I loved most was the beautiful sisterhood Lyvia has built. The bond between her and the women around her felt so genuine, it reminded me of my own best friends and all the memories we’ve shared. The way they support, challenge, and love each other even through their struggles made me both smile and cry more times than I can count.
Lyvia’s journey in this book is raw and real. Her struggle to understand her powers, her emotions, and her place in a world full of betrayal and secrets hit so hard. Every revelation and truth shared made me feel like I was right there beside her. Watching her wrestle with who she’s become and what she’s done was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Witnessing her find people who truly support and love her for her, even if she doesn’t realize it yet, had me crying and falling in love on her behalf.
From the first page (honestly since finishing Bones of the Bellators), I was pulled completely into the emotion of this story. I cried (happy tears and ugly ones), I screamed at the betrayals, and I fell in love all over again—with the characters, the writing, and the magic of this world. And when scenes from Bones of the Bellators came full circle, and I had that total “OMG” moment where everything clicked.. I just sat there in awe. The foreshadowing is masterful. And that cliffhanger? Absolutely brutal. When is Book #3 coming out?!
Shadow of the Sending is dark, beautiful, and utterly consuming. If you love fantasy, romance, and having your heart shattered and pieced back together while you fall in love with some of the best characters, you should absolutely pick this up! (Right after you finish Bones of the Bellators!)
Shadow Of The Sending by A.M Kay is the sequel to Bones Of The Bellators, and continues the story of Lyvia a former noble woman turned rebel warrior who is given a power that will forever change not only herself, but also the fate of every single character.
The character growth of the fmc Lyvia throughout the story is well-executed.Mrs.Kay shows how Lyvia goes from being an emotionally broken women to eventually becoming a strong rebel warrior that chooses to embrace her powers instead of fearing them.
Mrs.Kay's world-building is very versatile, and depending on who's pov the chapter is from readers get to experience the emotions that the character is going through, and the reason behind their motives.
Representation is very important to Mrs.Kay,and she does not shy away from bringing awareness to topics such as,mental health, abuse, and the different types of grief that a person goes through.
The enemies to lovers romance especially between Lyvia, and a certain someone who I will not name due to spoilers.I will say that after what happened to him at the end of that scary cliffhanger Lyvia may have to decide who she wants to be with if you know, you know.👀
Indiana Jones meets lord of the rings with pirates of the caribbean vibes in this dark romantasy that will keep readers guessing with all kinds of plot twists, and surprises lurking around every corner.
Add Shadow Of The Sending to your tbr if you love these tropes, and themes:
1.Found family 2.Strong fmc 3.Female rage 4.Self acceptance & self love 5.Open door romance 6.Mythical creatures 7. Forced proximity 8.Magical oaths & healing 9.Sisterhood 10.Archeology & horses 11.Betrayals & epic movie worthy fight scenes. 12.Banter
Shadow Of The Sending is available now,and I would like to thank Mrs.Kay for the opportunity to read the sequel. I am looking forward to reading book three next year!⚔️🔥
4.5⭐️. As I was reading I kept going back and forth on whether I liked this book or Book 1 (Bones of the Bellators) more. Ultimately now that I’ve finished I think I liked book 1 overall just a smidge more. That said though, there was so much to love about this book! It had tons of action….like TONS! I almost feel like it could’ve been two books and some scenes could’ve been expanded upon. Like, the last 20% of the book is craaaaazy amounts of information and story. Several battles, several of the big “bad guys” are fought, and sooooo many twists upon twists upon twists. Pretty much all of which I never saw coming. And basically the only reason this is not a 5⭐️ read for me, is because you’d have a big twist reveal and it’d cut scene to another time frame, jumping forward in time like you didn’t just drop a huge bomb. While I wanted to live a little in the twist, and have more questions asked/answered. I almost felt like I kept getting whiplash. So that was a bit of a struggle for me. There was tons of magic, and world building, character development, growth in Lyvia’s character that I loved, struggle & heartbreak, love & joy, found family & friendships. So so much. I was deeply surprised by Bayne’s character in this book. And I won’t say any more, in order to avoid spoilers. I also LOOOVED so many of the new characters brought in and characters that we got to know more closely. Especially Kellen. I reallllllly hope we get to see more of him in book 3!!!! Please A.M. Kay!!! Excited to see what happens in the rest of the series! This one ended on some HUGE cliffhangers…. So readers, you have been warned!
Shadow of the Sending throws us straight into the dangerous elven realm, where the stakes somehow climb even higher, the sacrifices cut deeper, and the world grows in bold, breathtaking ways. The characters feel so vivid and real that it’s impossible not to get completely pulled in. This sequel is packed with action, tension, and relentless suspense from start to finish.
A scheming queen has her sights set on Bayne and her darkest designs aimed squarely at Lyvia. From the very start, we’re thrown back into action and heartache. Like the first, this sequel is plot-driven and twists the romance with ruthless precision through every painful, breathtaking turn.
What I think makes this sequel good is how the relationships and characters continue to evolve—especially Lyvia. Her journey with self-doubt, identity, and the breadth of her power is handled with such nuance and care. Her arc is both brutal and beautiful: she grows sharper, darker, more conflicted, yet she fights desperately to preserve the part of herself that is still human. She transcends the judgment of others, confronts old wounds and new ones, and tries to balance opposing magics while clinging to her empathy and moral compass in ways that are raw, transparent, and achingly real.
Aboard Pirate Lord Astraeus’s ship, Lyvia’s found family deepens, traitors are exposed, and new bonds begin to bloom. The secrets, betrayals, twists, romantic and political tensions, the power struggles, and the messy inner conflict all hit so hard.
And the ENDING?? Like the first, A.M. Kay has kept us wanting more, now!
I honestly didn’t think anything could top Bones of the Bellators, but Shadow of the Sending completely blew me away. This sequel hits deeper in every way — emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. A.M. Kay has such a gift for writing characters that feel real. You don’t just read about them; you feel with them.
Lyvia continues to grow in ways that are both painful and beautiful. I love how A.M. Kay doesn’t shy away from showing her flaws, fears, and fierce determination. The whole found family dynamic — Bayne, Nerissa, Vulcan, Carina — adds so much heart to the story. Each of them shines in their own way, and I’m obsessed with how their bonds continue to deepen.
The writing is absolutely stunning. Every emotion hits hard, every twist lands perfectly, and there’s this constant feeling of tension and hope that keeps you turning pages. The world of Nyxteria feels more alive than ever, full of mystery, danger, and love that refuses to fade no matter the darkness ahead.
A.M. Kay delivers another emotional rollercoaster packed with heart, secrets, and revelations that will leave you desperate for Book 3. I’m completely hooked on this series and all its characters — they’ve carved out a place in my
Holy shit. I wasn't expecting the second book to be just as good as the first one. This one was freaking amazing. Lyvia growth in this is so beautiful I'm a loss at words. Seeing her as a person grow mentally, physically and with her magic is such a treat. Not only Lyvia growth you get more insight on the characters you loved in the first book. This digs deeper into the magic and the world. I love this perfectly imperfect found family anchors this story. This still has all the fun stuff the first one did but more. My heartstringers were tugged so damn hard and my emotions were a mess and at times I was a little upset about where this was going on some departments but honestly it was written so well I can't even complain about it. I can't wait to see where this story is going to go and I'll need the next book stat!
I have so many other thoughts but I sent a mass message of rambles to the author on those 🤣🤣
I don’t even have words right now. So much happens throughout the book but especially the end. I might need 3-5 business days to process.
This book is so good. This whole world is engaging and complicated. I’m quite sure I don’t understand everything that I just read. But that ending. WOOF.
“Don’t for one second lower yourself, Lyvia. You are every bit their equal. Every bit as important, as incredible. I’m with you.”
How long do I have to wait for book 3?! __________________________
Okay, I'm back.
Book 1, Bones of the Bellators was good, but this book was even better. I found myself deeply invested in characters, fully gripped by the high stakes, and immersed in the world.
Lyvia is a constantly evolving character. She is clever and fierce and powerful. I feel like I know her, understand her, and am rooting for her.
Each character has their strengths and their weaknesses. They have to work through pasts, insecurities, secrets... but within this book, you experience side characters stepping beyond who they have been and embracing who they can be. They show their vulnerabilities... I just feel like I know them. I feel their pain, celebrate their strength... I also roll my eyes when I think they're being an idiot. haha. It's part of the process.
The story is dark and beautiful. You will experience a range of emotions. Even with everything that you learn and endure emotionally as you read this book, you will find yourself staring at the wall like I did at the end desperate for the next book. Highly recommend :)
This book was everything I wanted it to be and more. I loved book one, Bones of the Bellators, and this one topped it. It hit deeper on an emotional level, tugging and squeezing at my heart. The stakes were higher, the magic was stronger, the truths kept unfolding, and the plot twist rocked me in the best way.
Lyvia is such a strong FMC. Not only battling dark kings and the ashen, but her inner self too. The bonds and relationships that form and change along the way give her the strength she needs to succeed and overcoming her own darkness, finding love and self-worth.
A.M. Kay did an amazing job drawing me in. The character development was perfection. The banter, slow burn, heartache, betrayal, friendship, and the raw and genuine love was all consuming. I love these characters and the family they have formed along their journey. I can not wait for to the story to continue. Seriously, that ending! How am I supposed to wait?
Bones of the Bellators was really good...but HOLY CRAP Shadows of the Sending knocked it out of the park!!
I spent the entire book being mad at certain characters, questioning their decisions alongside Lyvia, while she continued on her journey of self-acceptance and came into her own as an absolute BADASS. And getting to know more about a certain pirate lord...let's just say I might be in love. And I absolutely adore the different members of Lyvia's found family, both old and new.
A. M. absolutely killed it with this book. The last 20% was fast paced and full of so many twists and turns that I am still reeling from. That ending was absolutely insane...I haven't quite processed that I have to wait to find out what happens next.
Thank you so much for A. M. Kay for the ARC, I am immensely grateful to be on your Street Team!!

This was a really solid read — good but not great. A.M. Kay’s writing is beautiful and atmospheric as always, and the world building pulled me in right from the first few chapters. There’s a real sense of depth and mystery to the setting that makes it easy to lose track of time while reading.
That said, I still can’t quite connect with the characters. They’re interesting and well-drawn on paper, but for some reason, I just couldn’t feel their emotions or motivations the way I wanted to. It made the story feel a little distant, even though I was intrigued by where it was going.
There’s nothing particularly new or groundbreaking here compared to others in the genre — but honestly, if you love classic fantasy tropes done with care and style, this series is for you.
This book was an absolute page-turner! The world-building was rich and immersive, the characters felt real and complex, and the plot was filled with just the right balance of magic, mystery, heart-pounding action, and romance. What really stood out to me was the author's ability to create a universe that felt both fantasy and real. The magical system was intriguing (which was refreshing), the plot was deep without being overwhelming, and the emotional rollercoaster of the characters added so much depth (and heartbreak). You will feel like you're living through them! I honestly didn't want it to end and I can't wait for the next book in the series! In summary, I could not put it down! I was so invested that I read it in 1 day! Highly recommend it!
I thought Bones of the Bellators was amazing. But Shadow of the Sending seriously took it to the next level. Everything I thought I knew and felt after reading book one was completely shattered and rebuilt as I read this book. A.M. Kay so masterfully evolves the world and relationships that you are completely drawn into the story and can’t help but feel everything right along with the characters. Which means your emotions seriously go through the wringer.
Lyvia levels up in this book and becomes a powerhouse in every aspect of the word. Her journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance is heartbreakingly beautiful. You will most definitely fall even more in love with her found family (some characters more than others), and be pleasantly surprised by other characters. I absolutely NEED more Tiberius, Aquila, and Nishanth!
The foreshadowing and tie-ins from Bones of the Bellators is simply chefs kiss. A.M. Kay seamlessly weaves magic, mystery, and romance into her books and leaves you reeling every time there is a major revelation. And that cliff hanger ending had me gasping and feeling all the things. I cannot wait to keep uncovering all the mysteries in the next book.
If you only pick up one series I recommend, let it be this one. You won’t be disappointed.
I loved Bones of the Bellators, but this sequel goes deeper in every way—emotionally, politically, and spiritually. A.M. Kay delivers a story that’s darker, richer, and beautifully intense. Lyvia’s struggles and growth felt so real that I carried her emotions with me long after I stopped reading.
The found family shines even brighter here—Nerissa’s vulnerability, Vulcan’s cracks, Carina’s quiet rise. Every character feels more layered, more human, more unforgettable. And Lyvia and Bayne? Their connection is written with so much tenderness and ache that their reunion genuinely broke me a little.
This book isn’t just a continuation—it stands powerfully on its own. Stunning writing, incredible characters, and a story that lingers long after the final page.
Have you ever read a book and you are just there in the story? While reading this I felt like I was Lyvia. I felt everything she felt.
This is one of those books that when you put it down while reading you ache to pick it back up. It was an emotional rollercoaster but one that left me craving more. My jaw hit the floor a few times and may have even yelled while reading scaring my husband. I am head over heels in love with this series.
If you enjoyed the first book…this one will completely captivate you and leave you wanting more.
Thank you so much A.M. Kay for the amazing opportunity to read this book in advance.
When an author evokes a multitude of emotions from reading their book, they have done their job well and A.M. Kay has done just that in Shadow of the Sending, book two of the Nyxteria Series.
I grinned and giggled, my heart shattered and soared, I trusted and distrusted, and in the end was left wanting more.
Lyvia continues to piece together the puzzle of the life she was thrust into in the last year while grappling to come to terms with what she wants to be true versus what she knows she must accept.
Oaths are bound, alliances are sworn, choices are made. Lyvia finds she must accept the decisions she’s made…whether to her benefit or detriment. Because no matter the choices we make in life, until we accept them, we cannot accept ourselves.

The first book made me fall in love with this world, and the second book DESTROYED me! I felt her yearning, her pain, the betrayal as if it was my own. I can't wait to find out what happens next...I'm invested, I'm in DEEP. Whom will she ultimately find her bliss with? Will she reclaim what's hers (I'm trying so hard to not give spoilers or reveal my guesses for what happens next...)
If you enjoy that yearning for sense of self and purpose, that romantic tension, that independent and strong FMC, read this! In just a few words, it's gender-bent young Indiana Jones in a fantasy realm.
