As the curtain falls on another performance of Creep the Night, Tilly Warner races to get to the theatre. Desperate to hang onto her job, she arrives just in time to help put everything away, but one by one her colleagues depart until Tilly's the only person left backstage.
Or at least, the only living person.
Creep the Night is notorious for using a real human skull in its performances. As she prepares to leave for the night, Tilly starts to notice something moving in the shadows. Soon she's convinced that she has company, but is she being followed by an obsessed ex-boyfriend... or by something far more sinister?
Soon Tilly finds herself caught in a battle for her survival... and her sanity. The Connaught-Lincoln is one of London's oldest theatres, but with great age comes a terrifying history filled with dark secrets. Something has been lurking in the wings and waiting for its chance to strike, and now Tilly might be the victim it craves.
11pm is the fourth book in the Haunting of London series, a collection of stand-alone but loosely linked horror stories set over the course of one ghostly twenty-four hour period in the city.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
I'm working on an Amy Cross marathon, having just completed the 4th book in this series.
OK, so I've just completed the first four horror novels in the Amy Cross series "The Haunting of London". The first three were excellent, but book 4 disappointed me, which is why I only rated it 3 stars. It's still worth reading as part of the series, but I had to push myself to see it through till the end. I believe that the subject matter of this novel just didn't resonate with me the way the plots of the first three books did. But, I am not deterred because I've already downloaded book 5 in the series and will start it tomorrow!
Tilly is a stage hand and late to work. She's been left alone to clean up after the show because of this. But she's not quite alone, as there is the janitor and the ghost of Jessica. There are two others who show up to make for an intense and exciting ghost story with an unexpected twist at the end.
This series is sooooooo good, and I highly recommend reading Cross' the haunting of London books! I was not expecting the ending of this book, but I loved every last minute of it!
But I kept going and was glad I did. The characters sometimes seemed kind of silly and you don’t really care for them as people but the plot and the ending were interesting and captivating. Gonna read the next one in this series. Can’t stop now.
