Mila Rivera has harboured feelings for Jason Hawkins for as long as she can remember. The charming, magnetic single dad is everything she’s ever wanted in a partner—kind, loyal, successful, and heartbreakingly handsome. There’s just one he’s also the best friend of her ex-brother-in-law, a man she utterly despises.
When Mila accepts a part-time job babysitting Jason’s young son, she tells herself it’s just work. But being in his home day after day only stirs the butterflies she’s tried to suppress for years. And when a late-night game of Twenty-One Questions turns playful, then personal, something shifts between them, something neither of them can ignore.
For Jason, Mila is stunning, bright-eyed, and far too tempting. But she’s also too young for him. Too close to home. Too forbidden. So, he does what he believes is right, he backs off. Dates someone else. Tries to forget the way Mila’s captivating smile and sweet voice lingers in his mind.
But feelings like theirs don’t just simply disappear. And when Jason finally realises Mila is everything he’s been searching for, it’s already too late—she belongs to someone else.
Losing Mila is a slow-burn, emotionally charged romance about missed chances, undeniable chemistry, and the courage to follow your heart, even when fate seems determined to keep you apart.
J.A. Greenwood is a contemporary romance author from Sydney, Australia, who has a deep passion for writing emotionally charged love stories that tug—and sometimes tear—at the heartstrings. When she’s not immersed in fictional worlds, she’s doting on her four cheeky rabbits, travelling to cities inspired by the books she’s read, or enjoying time with her husband and family.
That’s a very generous three stars for a competently written book. But, yuck, is it ever full of gross people. We get big doses of the cheating best friend douche canoe from the previous book. Yuck. We have a book trying to make hero material out of the previously explored douche canoe’s best friend who facilitated and covered up the affair from Book 1. We have an extremely young FMC with a thirty something divorced father with a major league toxic ex. The extremely young FMC may be 22 but she has the emotional maturity of hormonal 16 year old. Of course, the 34 year old MMC also has the emotional maturity of a hormonal 16 year old so maybe it’s a match made in heaven????? But the absolute worst is when we discover that the MMC’s ex is a sexual predator on the campus where she teaches and the MMC has the receipts but only uses them to blackmail his ex into leaving him alone so he can pursue a relationship with the FMC. What’s really sick is that there seems to be no awareness that a similar power differential exists between the MMC and the FMC as the ex wife and her victims. She’s his freaking nanny and the young sister of the previously mentioned best friend douche canoe’s cheated on ex wife. Bottom line, FMC is way too young to get herself saddled with this morally questionable MMC with his piles and piles and piles of baggage.
I didn’t totally hate it. But I also didn’t love it. Losing Mila falls somewhere in the middle. I am glad I continued on with this series, I’ll complete it eventually, I’m just not in a big rush. There are sex scenes with both our mc’s with other people. It’s before these two get together, and it was more to try and forget the other, but they were graphic. So if you don’t like that, I’d skip.
Technically this is book two in the series, and while I recommend that you read book one Keeping Skylar it is not necessary if you feel you can’t. Mila finds herself working for older boss Jason a man that she has had a crush on for a long time. Things get complicated when they start to get close, and Jason does what he thinks is best and distances himself from her. This drives Mila into the arms of her boyfriend who turns out to be a not nice guys and it truly impacts on her self-image and self-worth not to mention her safety. Jason and Mila begin a real relationship when Jason does something stupid and that forces Mila to realise that in order to grow and become the independent woman, she wants to be she needs to walk away and be on her own for a while. Let’s not gloss over the fact that Jason also needed to grow up and deal with his issues as well. Not going to spoil this journey for you but what I can tell you that this novel is angsty and emotionally devasting in places. It is also about love and the different forms that takes and that ultimately the most important love is selflove because once you get that right the rest follows. It is also about love in its purist form and that no matter what that looks like no one has the right to tell you it wrong especially yourself.
Losing Mila was a great read and a fantastic sequel to Keeping Skylar!
We follow Mila as she navigates her way through some complicated feelings about her new boss, his new relationship, and her new relationship with a guy that doesn't turn out quite like anyone would have hoped. This book was an emotional journey, and the characters were written so well that I genuinely felt for Mila and Jason, and completely despised certain other characters and their actions. The story was well paced and had a good amount of momentum and spice sprinkled throughout, but it was the tender moments and the moments of Mila discovering her self worth that really stood out to me. Fantastic read, and definitely recommended, but as always please check your trigger warnings!
Another incredible book from this author. We finally get to delve into Jason and Mila’s story which I have been looking really forward to reading and it did not disappointment.
The story was very well-written and it definitely took me on one hell of an emotional ride. Mila’s story broke my heart, and Jason is just the hero everyone needs. His little boy, Jake was just freakin adorable, and I loved his relationship with Mila.
I read this in 2 days and didn’t want it to end. I could’ve kept reading the rest of their story, which I’m sure we’ll get to see in the next book.
Overall, this story had me hooked from the first page to the last. I can’t wait for the next and final book in the series.
DNF - None of the main characters are worth following to the end. I stopped after Mila's boyfriend got cartoonishly abusive. Abuse is wrong, but he had every right to be upset that his girlfriend was having dinner and spending time with a man and his son outside of strictly work time. How could she not see that? And Jason was really into Gemma the entire time they were together while claiming he only wanted cookies relationships - not to mention him covering for his cheating friend. He's not a good guy. None of these people deserve a good ending.
Amazing !!! I devoured this in about 24 hours.. i couldn’t put it down. I love the amazing love story written & the way Mila & Jase found their way back to another. I rode the emotional roller coaster of Mila .. and the disaster of Jase’s x wife. I did not read the first book but loved Sky’s happy ending as well. What a great read & I hope there’s a little more somehow on Jase & Mila’s love story !

This is the second book in a series and let me tell you this did not disappoint. Mila and Jason go through so much with obstacles that will break your heart and root for a happy ending for these two. Add in a psycho ex wife a controlling and abusive ex boyfriend and Jason’s adorable son Jake and some of the best friends and family a person can ask for this one is for you. I suggest you read book one to get the back stories of the characters.
I didn't read any further than 46% when Mila was stupid enough to go back to Dean after he attacked her in a jealous rage. It’s not like she was trapped in the relationship and unable to leave or support herself. She wasn’t afraid of Dean retaliating if she left him. It’s not like she was even in love with him; they had only been together for a short time. She just decided to believe that he was "sorry" even though he hadn't apologized until after Jason threatened him. 🙄🙄🙄

This was a four star story but it all went off the rails when he proved his ex was sexually assaulting his students and chose to blackmail her with it rather than protect the students. It matches with his personality honestly considering he his kadens cheating in last book and was tstl about Elena’s manipulation at Disney -
Losing Mila is an emotional rollercoaster that proves true feelings never fade away. It is beautifully written, with undeniable chemistry between the characters and a message about the courage to follow your heart. I highly recommend it—this story will grab your heart and never let go!
It's a great book. Definitely would recommend reading the first one first but it's not necessary. It again touches a sensitive subject but again done in a great way.
