Astounded when a half Native American claims her for his wife, Dorie Primfield finds him to be the embodiment of her dream lover but refuses to submit willingly until she turns the tables on him. Original.
Theresa Scott writes historical and contemporary romances.
Theresa especially loves to write about human relationships gone terribly awry before being set to rights. Ignorant blunders get her characters into trouble. Tiny, gradual awarenesses, mixed with the occasional epiphany move them out of trouble. A dollop of love always helps, too.
Theresa continues to believe that loving relationships lead individuals to transform their lives, and maybe even the world, for the better.
Theresa Scott’s historical and contemporary romances can be found at Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Kobo, and GooglePlay.
Her 20 romance novels have sold over 600,000 copies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Britain, Germany, Holland, and Taiwan.
If you like TSTL (Too Stupid To Live) heroines then this is the book for you. Not only is the heroine TSTL but a ditz and totally clueless. I didn't feel much better about the hero. I read this for a challenge otherwise I probably would have quit after the first chapter. Now the writing itself wasn't bad for me. I liked how it moved quickly and didn't linger too long giving the reader unnecessary filler.
Wow what a find. This book is unusually good. Though I didn't like the fact that Zander was deceiving Dorie. And how Dorie thought that him saying Country Wife meant that she was his real wife. When Dorie found out what that meant [country wife:] I was really pleased with the reaction. I loved the fact that Zander found out how much he loved Dorie when she was at the brink of death. He prayed and made deals with god. Right than I knew that he truely loved her. Very well researched novel. I would read this time and time again.
I usually love a good ol' Native American historical romance, but this one just missed the target on every level.
It started out okay with Zander Durban discovering that his friend's sister was Clarence Biddle's "country wife", but Biddle was going to take Dorie Primfield as his real wife and kick his country wife to the curb, along with the child they had together. Zander abducted Dorie, declaring that she was going to be his country wife and thwarted Biddle's plans to have his cake and eat it, too.
At first, I couldn't decide if Dorie was naive or just plain stupid, but as the book progressed, it became clear that stupidity was her thing. She was annoying when she asked Zander, who was part Indian and part white and looked Indian, what color his blood was. Then she was gauging men by how good of a shot they were. She was just a moron and never got over it all the way through the story. She got worse instead. For instance (this is somewhat of a spoiler so beware), Biddle called out a hit on Zander. She overheard the entire plan. She was angry with Zander after she found out what a country wife was and she was his and she was pregnant to boot. To get back at him she sabotages all of his rifles so they won't fire. She didn't want him dead, so what the hell was she thinking?!?! She wasn't. She was a total idiot; didn't have the sense to come out of the rain. She was selfish, foolish, and a dolt. What he saw in her, I'll never know.
I liked Zander, but he gave into her much too easily. By the end of the book, he'd become her little "yes man" and as that part of him developed, I couldn't wait for the book to end. I finished it and when I was done, I thanked God.
I'm giving this book three stars for a couple of reasons. The first one is that I have to give it some leeway since it came out in 1996 and writing was a lot different back then. Things like this were normal and if I'd read it back then, I probably would've loved it. The second reason is because it was historically accurate and the author did a good job or portraying the hardships of frontier life, including how alcohol was decimating the Native Americans and their lifestyles.
There are some heated scenes, although I wouldn't go as far as to call them steamy. I really didn't feel Zander and Dorie falling in love. I didn't think either of the characters were all that well developed. I liked Zander through most of the book, but anytime Dorie opened her mouth, I wanted to punch her. I spent the last thirty or forty pages rolling my eyes and calling her unkind names.
If you want some Western adventure without a lot of passion between the characters, this would be a good book for you. There are a couple plot twists that I didn't anticipate and added some zing to the story. But overall, it wasn't for me.
I enjoyed the story of Zander and Dorie. There were several misunderstandings, dangers, twists, and turns to the story. The story reminded me how we can communicate the opposite of what we mean by careless words. It also reminded me to have faith that everything can work out in spite of the circumstances. Read the story to find out what happens to and between Zander and Dorie. You will not be disappointed!
Reviewed By:Sarah L Review Copy Provided By:Publisher Having always enjoyed stories about historical America, especially the untamed West, I couldn't wait to start reading. Initially the story started out slow and I had a hard time staying interested. After the first few chapters the tempo did pick up although I never really felt the zing I was hoping for. It had a great plot idea but I didn't feel any sort of connection with Zander or Dorie.
Without trying to give away too much of the story, Dorie does eventually learn what a country wife was. In my opinion, this was a missed opportunity to incorporate some fireworks. Where was the yelling and screaming? It felt like an afterthought. The whole situation was glossed over. I was also confused as to why the two "bad guys" in the story were constantly being hired as guides. I realize times were different back then but I would like to think they had some common sense. The ending was also a bit too tidy. Fireworks!! Where are the fireworks?
Overall, the story did keep me interested enough to finish it and I was content with the ending but unfortunately it didn't leave a lasting impression.
I am part Native American and I really wish "whites" wouldn't write about us, if they don't do their research. I hate this author just slightly less than Cassie Edwards. The book was boring, the characters flat. I couldn't establish any empathy with either one. So many plot flaws, I was constantly shaking my head. I'd never read anything by this author before and will try to avoid her in the future. So infantil a story I hated it. The writing is infantil too. I would say....avoid this book and this author.
The story telling in this book is really good. I liked the descriptions and the depth of the characters.I loved Dorie the h.She is innocent in her own way, but such a sweet , lovable lady. The Hero had a rough childhood. He started out rough but along the way he learnt and fell in love. Its a simple sweet story of two people falling in love against all odds.
I really enjoyed Savage Betrayal I am about to start reading Savage Revenge. I picked up this book! I am soooo glad I didn't read this book first or I would not have read her other books. I wanted to really like Dorie she was a strong brave women but she kept making these really stupid mistakes!
only thing this book has going for it is it is a simple, light read. the main characters were to autos to live it seemed. how they survived, is beyond me....
