I didn't really hate this. It was just like every other Natasha Knight book I've ever read and at this point they're all starting to blended together considering they're all interchangeable. We've got the supposed "defiant" heroine who at her core is dumb asf and then we've the poster child for daddy issues moonlighting as the "villain". Yep, new book same old shebang!
I'm reading the second book because masochist, duh and I don't like leaving things unfinished.

Idk I’m just in the right mood for this typical mafia plot. Not much happens, but I liked how Natasha Knight set up the opening, the hero and heroine have good chemistry, and there’s an overall mystery as to their pasts. With mafia books, I’ve dnf-Ed too many where the heroes don’t feel dangerous. Too many stories rely on a hero doing something brutal or saying he is, but this one kept it more understated. I find the small moments of much more compelling.
I think it was about the 40% mark that I started to notice there was no full-on smut, but some petting. I think maybe 50 or 60% is the first scene.
I will read the second book!!

I’m going to keep my review for this book short for now because the second installment of the series hasn’t been released yet… I liked this book, I did. There was just a few elements in the storyline that made me uncomfy in the moment but despite that I’m pushing through and am waiting in anticipation for the second book to release… the cliffhanger in this had me shook

This book is dark, decadent, and laced with danger, and just the right amount of chaos.
Cassian Trevino is a ruthless mob boss who doesn’t ask twice, and Allegra, thrown into his world after her brother's betrayal, is both his leverage and his obsession.
Allegra’s strength caught me off guard in the best way. She’s not the damsel you expect, and her fire makes their twisted dynamic all the more addictive.
The chemistry? Off the charts. The plot? Fast-paced and gripping, though at times the emotional moments could have used a bit more depth. However, that does not mean the story did not leave me reeling after that evil twist of a cliffhanger, dying for book two, which, thankfully, is right around the corner.

Really want to rate this higher, but here’s the issue: why can’t Allegra be mad and stay mad? Drives me nuts when a female lead has all sorts of super valid reasons to be super mad (locked naked in a cold dungeon for hours and then exposed to another man by Cassian during his pique of jealousy), yet somehow the scent of his cologne or the blue in eyes overrides all rational thought. I wish, just once, the atrocious things an H does would be enough for the h to hold on to her anger and senses at least for a little while.
“I don’t know what the hell just happened. I don’t know how we got to where we got after the crypt. After whatever the hell that was with Jet.”
I just can’t. It is crazy making.
Does it make it better that he’s just as bad?

When you dive into a Natasha Knight dark mafia romance, you know you’re going to get completely and utterly sucked into its world.
I was in awe of how immediate the characters grabbed my attention and in desperate need of answers. The secrecy, the mind games?! The questionable characters and possible ulterior motives?! You’re constantly on edge and on your toes because there’s just so much mystery surrounding Cassian, Allegra, and their twisted familial connections.
This book contains dark, sensitive subject matters that some readers may find disturbing or triggering. It also includes certain tropes and kinks that won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It contains graphic violence, kidnapping, manipulation, torture (psychological, physical and emotional), domestic/familial abuse, child abuse— resulting in PTSD and scarring (psychological, physical and emotional). It also deals with a serious, life-altering medical diagnosis, as well as death. The adult themes involve tropes such as, captor/captive, forced proximity, dub-con, and a questionable love triangle. It’s intended for readers 18+ only.
As this is the first part of the War of Hearts duet, it does conclude on a cliffhanger, but one that leaves you with an idea of what’s in store in the next book.
The plot is plotting. Just when I thought I figured out a certain plot twist, character, or direction a development is moving towards, it ended up becoming something else. It’s well-paced storytelling, and really displays the MCs emotions and thought-process through the dual POVs. The secondary cast of characters heightened what was an already suspenseful read with their looming presence.
If you enjoy dark romances, mafia romances, romance reads with tons of build-up and unpredictability, then add this one to your TBR. Cassian and Allegra have a complex relationship. You’re either going to love, hate, or question their actions throughout this book. The sexual tension is palpable, but there’s also a constant push-and-pull between the two.
Cassian has an image to uphold. He is controlling, possessive, and enjoys flaunting his power, especially to prove a point. But behind all that bravado, he also carries a heavy burden.
Allegra has a haunting life that she didn’t think she could ever escape from, until a chance encounter with Cassian alters her reality.
These two seem to be up against the world. There always seems to be one roadblock after another. Just when you think things are finally getting comfortable, the rug gets pulled out from under you. I found myself being easily transported as their world is complicated yet vivid. There was an air of uneasiness that leapt off of the pages and elevated my reading experience.
I was hooked on the premise, and whilst for the most part the book was gripping. There were times I wasn’t completely sold on either of the MCs during certain scenes. But I think that has a lot to do with my reading preferences, and particular tropes and elements this book had prompted I wasn’t a fan of. Nonetheless, it’s not something that deterred me from continuing. The writing is effortless to follow, and Knight has created characters who are already exhibiting fleshed-out personalities. I was continuously intrigued by how things would progress. The dynamics are thought-provoking, and with how it concluded, I’m itching to read the next book and see how it pans out for Cassian and Allegra.
This is one eyebrow-raising mafia romance read. It’s dirty, twisted, and highly-charged. You can’t tear your eyes away even if you wanted to.

I am literally obsessed with this woman's stories!!!
The intensity, the storyline, the dark aura and gothic atmosphere!!! For God's sake, Cassian was living in a church and it was mystifying in a way this setting!!!
Allegra had gone through hell and she was a really tough nut to crack!!!
These two were putting fires on my kindle just with breathing the same air with one another!!!
This story was what I really needed and Gawd, this cliffy made me wild with need!!!

Allegra is just a pawn in this life of a mafia princess...
Cassian Trevino is entering her life out of nowhere and because her brother owns him, she is becoming a collateral for him...
But she won't fall without a battle!!!
Cassian wanted to take back what he was owned and then, a little moth stepped into the picture and he lost his damn mind!!! He is the villain of this story and he took her under the disguise of collateral, but does he really plan to take her back when everything will end???
"You're mine, Allegra. Mine. Do you understand that?"
"I will never be yours, Cassian. Never. Do you understand that?"
"But you already are. You were mine from the first momenti I laid eyes on you."
I won't tell you more, but you are in for a wild ride with these two!!!
They never intended to fall, but they fell with such force that they were about to get burned alive!!!
This part is focusing more in the between them, how they fight, how they hate each other, how they are falling... but outside their little bubble there are too many players waiting to make their move... and we are realizing that near the end where things are taking a very ugly turn, and now I am running, cause I really need to see what will happen next!!!

He had me see-sawing between wanting to toss him to the fishes with cement weights and hoping he got his HEA
Still up in the air at this time, I know he felt betrayed, but it was kind of his fault IMO.

I can’t say that she was shielded from the darker side of their world, despite what Cassian might believe.
Not after learning what really happened years ago, what she has lived through.
She is all bite!
Yes, she seems like she would be easily manipulated at first glance; However, that was a facade.
I would think a girl who has seen and heard so much violence would be a bit more hesitant.
But damn, she was either very, very ballsy or truly just lacked her brain-to-mouth filter when it came to Cassian.
I think she liked to goad him.
Cassian has secrets!
His stepfamily needs to be turned into chum.
Except Jet, he walks a very fine line.
I kind of liked Jet's 'no ducks given' approach, though - snarky little chit.
I was wrong about the who and the how, but the outcome : I saw that coming, thanks to the little hints along the way.
This ends with a major collision of forces that left me white knuckling my kindle so I didnt throw it!

Wow! My heart is literally beating hard in my chest after reading this intense first part of the duet! From beginning to end I was held captive reading about Cassian and Allegra. He is a mob boss who is described as ruthless and dominant, which is a perfect description of him. When he comes across Allegra, his enemies daughter, I just knew I was in for a wild ride. She has led a bit of a sheltered life, and for good reason, but she surprised me with her strength and sassiness. Plus the sparks between them almost set my Kindle on fire! Allegra certainly gives Cassian a run for his money. While they both fight the attraction, which is palpable, I rooted for them because I knew in my heart they were imperfectly perfect for each other. But there are many outside forces threatening both of them and I never knew what would happen next. I can’t wait for the conclusion because the way this story ended has me wanting for more! Absolutely incredible!

Wow, what a great start to this new duet🙌
Allegra gets taken as collateral by Cassian, after her brother betrays him. The condition is he is to return his money with interest within a week, knowing the likelihood of this is probably never going to happen. Allegra and Cassian embark on a secretive and twisted journey with personal secrets soon coming to light…but as they both fight the attraction to the other, the lines become blurred to the point that they don’t know whether Allegra is still collateral or more🤷♀️
That ending is enough to have me up all night wondering what’s going to happen…though I have an idea, I want to see if I’m close to guessing correctly. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book😍 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review💛

It's been too long since I've read a Natasha Knight book! The Villain, first installment of the War if Hearts duet was exactly what I needed right now.
Cassian and Allegra's fast paced story took me into a bumpy road full of twists and turns. Veritable page-turner, this book had just to be devored.
I loved the collateral damage trope, and just had to know more, to see who could be trusted or not. Danger, mysteries, chemistry, everything was there for me to have a good time. The cliffhanger had me wanting for more, but thankfully the next opus is right around the corner!!!

Taken for a debt? Oh yes! Lots of family secrets and duplicitous actions and behaviours? Of course! A couple that swings between attraction, despising, and can’t keep their hands off each other? That’s why we’re here! And let us not forget, a cliff hanger that leaves more questions, and answers only one question, and sets our heart racing 😊

I have to say that despite a few hiccups between the main characters, I found myself genuinely rooting for them. Cassian showed us his true self from the very beginning so I was content with his end game knowing that there was going to be a little wiggle room to change the course of things. Allegra was a real fighter and I loved that about her because she went through a lot but still showed a vulnerable side to Cassian.
Now can we talk about the chemistry and action???? I CANNOT look at Olive Oil the same way again and that's all I'm going to say about that!! These characters were electric together and when you throw in some non stop action, you have yourself one heck of a read. I'm so glad that I already have part 2 because that cliffhanger was outrageous!! If you're a mafia romance fan with a sprinkle of action, I highly recommend you read this duet.

Cassian and Allegra’s family’s are tied together and there are secrets, mystery and suspense throughout.
Allegra is not simple, sweet and innocent as it’s first assumed she is. She’s got fire in her and she needs it in this world to survive, and to get anything she wants.
I love the tension and, the darkness of the chemistry between them. It’s very s€xy and fiery hot. *It is dark, so heed CW’s.*
There’s twists and turns that aren’t all expected, which is fantastic. I love being surprised by a plot twist!

I’ve been in a never ending book slump. Admittedly probably a couple months-so when I saw this book hit my kindle I screamed with joy! Natasha Knight writes some of the most deliciously dark romances-which always have been known to hook any reader-and the start of this story is absolutely something that has pulled me out of my deep slump.
Cassian, right in the first couple chapters is this ultimate heart throb-he’s dark, but you can tell he’s lived his own torment-and Allegra is trapped in his web. I loved her witt-she was incredibly sassy, for being trapped by her family’s enemy, which kept the book tension just absolutely sizzling!
This book was so hard to put down! I need the next book!
